Hello everyone,

I had AP credits for chemistry coming into college, and I was just wondering, do you guys think that one semester of Inorganic Chemistry and one semester of Biochemistry would suffice for making up those credits for some medical schools that require you to take upper division classes if you have AP credits? Do I need a lab class, because both of those classes are just lecture classes? Thanks for your help; I appreciate it.

Most US Medical institutions, if not all, list 1 year of general chemistry + lab as a requirement which must be completed before enrollment and cannot be waived by the usage of AP scores.

You should first check if your prospective medical school(s) accepts AP credits. Even if they do, you should take the classes anyways to raise your GPA.

I have already taken Inorganic Chemistry and am taking Biochemistry next semester. I just want to know if I have to take another chem class/lab. I have talked to my prospective medical schools and most of them accept AP credits. Just Vanderbilt, Yale, and Dartmouth are such schools I am not certain with (mainly because they don't email me back. I understand this time of year is busy for them.)

I wonder what schools you contacted because your assertion is 100% false.

OP, upper level chem courses are fine.

Yale accepts upper level courses to compensate AP. I think the same is true for Vanderbilt.

I wouldn't assume intro courses are an easy A even with AP placement. There's a reason these classes are weedouts, and often can be far worse than upper level courses.

Sorry on my phone. Multiquote doesn't work for some reason.

If you are gonna only do 1 semester of inorganic you should at least make it chem 2 cause that's the harder one of the two (if you can consider either hard)...
