Upper division classes to take before matriculation

Outside of the Pre-reqs (including Biochem) what classes did you take that helped you the most (laying foundational concepts, had the background info, etc.) once you got to medical school?

Alternatively, what courses do you wish you had taken beforehand?
 
I'm an incoming M1, but I took an SMP and know many current M1s from the same SMP that are doing veryyyy well based on the classes we took.

Human Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Neurosciences, Pathology, Embryology. All upper level, not intro courses. EDIT: We also had a Medical Ethics course that was pretty interesting.

Obviously, I haven't started M1 yet, but I am sure these courses have laid a pretty strong foundation as they more or less "mimic" med school coursework!

Yes, but I never got to take another humanities class...ever.
Anatomy, micro, physio, biochem...over and over.
I feel it. That was my main rationale for being a non-science major in undergrad 🙂
 
I am sincerely hoping for this. The humanities have their place; that place is not for me.
Perhaps, one day, you will see how important they are in understanding the human condition.
It is this understanding that distinguishes a superlative physician.
It is not the only way, but it relies on the strength of thousands of years of consideration of the human condition.

Oh by all means. I adore the subjects and I love learning about the humanities. However my adoration for the human condition lies in the real world through interactions, conversations, observing and partaking in cultural traditions.

However, this adoration ceases in the classroom for attempting to teach various aspects of the human condition to an audience of mostly uninterested twnety-somethings yields highly trivial classes that yield little real world value despite many a passionate Professor.

In the end, I would rather save the classroom for knowledge that is better gained through the textbook such as the sciences.
