These used to be public. I'm not sure why they aren't now. Here they are for your information. Maybe they didn't want us to be too optimistic because they might be misinterpreted? I mean 350 acceptances projected, minus 218 accepted as of May 20th, minus another ~35 late interviewies accepted after May 20th = ~97 projected vacancies, seems logical enough.
I heard from my advisor 35% of the class comes from the waitlists. Which is about 45 students. So the other 50 people accepted off the HPA must decline.

MedicationWorks:
I browsed through the stuff. Thanks! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Let's hear it for MedicationWorks!

I interviewed on March 5th. When did you interview?

Since it costs the school (actually the government in Upstate's case) alot of money to train a doctor, i would [think] they they would be happier to spend it on an american.
I don't want to think it... especially when I consider that a number of Canadian schools (McGill & MUN come to mind) favor foriegners --they accept more foriegners than OOP applicants. In any case, we more-or-less just have to accept the outcome. I have to say if I do go to Upstate, it would be neat if to have fellow Canadian in the class. 🙂

bumpity bump.

Your advisor may be correct. However, keep in mind that a much larger number of waitlistees must be accepted to fill this 25%, especially considering that the High Priority list has been exhausted for the past several years (excluding last year).

So like a lemming, I called after June 1st like they said I could and I was NOT surprised i was given ZERO info. All the secretary said was that the list is moving...which is good. But couldnt tell me how many people are on the list nor where I am in the mix...again, not surprised.
ANYWAY, save yourself a phone call, folks! We aren't hearing anything new!!!

*Sigh*
At any rate, hang in there!!!!

Spin😀 😀

Anyone try calling? I had a problem getting through keep getting disconnected after 1 ring.

Geldrop, when I called she said the phones were ringing off the hook...maybe that is contributing to your 1 ring problem 🙂

Anyway, looks like we had similar thoughts at the same time 🙂

Spin😀 😀

Wonder if they have even started phoning people from the list, or are they just starting to.

hi guys... i just called them today and this is what they told me...i don't think its good news!!

first of all, the guy i spoke to said there's more than a hundred on the HPL, and that although the list is moving and they are starting to call ppl, the list as of today (june 3) is moving "pretty slow".....

so i'm in a pretty bad mood right now...plus i just got a letter from my university saying that i'm ineligible to graduate....and i have no idea why!!!!....so i was completely stressed out for the last 12 hours...and then i finally called this morning and found out it was their stupid mistake!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhh

How could they judge if its moving slow if they just started calling people today.

Hi guys-
I'm about to fax a withdrawal of my app letter, so there will be 100+ minus one on the HP List. Don't be discouraged by those numbers! Remember that not everyone will stay on the list or accept the positions!

Good luck!

geldrop -- i don't know how they know but that's what they told me....why don't you call and ask them again....they would probably recognize me if i called again...hehe

Why is it that the info one gets is dependent on who you get on the phone!!! How annoying. I call and get essentially nothing...jolu calls and gets something!! If a school tells us we can call after a certain date then they should have a standard set of info they can give us....example, the person I talked to said they werent allowed to give out how many people are in the list, while jolu found out there are 100+ people!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH.

BTW, jolu, sorry to hear about your school's f up....glad is it resolved though.

Anyway, enough of my rant.

I got an offer from U of Toronto yesterday. 😀 😀 😀 😀

I notified Upstate today (phone call & email)... ergo one less Upstate HP waitlistee. 🙂

All said I have fond memories of my short stay in Syracuse. The people I ran into there were exceptionally nice. The interviews were a pleasure and stress free. I think it is wonderful that at least one school realizes making the interviews a positive experience for the student is the thing to do. 🙂

It is nice to see the enthusiasum in this thread... makes me think I'll be missing a little something next fall.

I wish all the best to those that are still waiting. I know the extremely high anxiety associated with waiting too well. I was on a waitlist last year ...spent pretty much all summer of last year dreading the arrival of the cursed thin letter.

100+ people and it's moving pretty slow, huh? That's a bit depressing. It would be so much nicer to know if I am number 15 or 80 or whatever the case may be. Let's just hope people on the list keep getting in elsewhere. Congrats on U of Toronto panacea!!!

Anyone know how the list is ordered? Is it based on first person to interview, or mcat, or gpa, or interviewer opinions or what??? Or a combination of those....

PS. E-spin ur box is full

medication you called and thats what they said?

I got the rank info from the interview session. All I know is, it's not ranked by interview time. So I guess it's a combo of mcat, gpa, interview.

Yea that is it, and not order interviewed. On the other hand, the "hold by committee" is not ranked. (useless info, but true).

(why are my tags not working?)

So one of those three criteria is how they rank us?? Or is it some sort of composite of all three?? I am trying to remember if they told us that on my interview day...

If it is one of the three, how do they choose which is most important?? Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!! *Frustration ensues*

OK. Nothing new. Still on the HPA list. However the language has changed a little. He said the list is moving, but it's hard to describe the movement at this point. Try again in a week. He didn't say slow to me. This is pretty much the same language they used with e-spin. So, feeling confused I pressed him further. He said they will most likely not be getting to the "hold-by-committee" this year - meaning they will not exhaust the HPA list. Not a particularly good sign.

As to the number on the list -> he said slightly over 100.

AHHHHH. OK. I can't deal anymore... the info we hear is totally dependent on the person we speak to on the phone!!! Why is it that when I called the lady I spoke with said they couldnt give out the number of ppl on the list?!?! Maybe if I call enough times I will get the person who doles out acceptanes!!!!

Oh well, thanks all for keeping us up to speed on the current "situation"!!!

Anyway, from our previous musings, I think that 100 people on the HPA list could possibly get offers...but who knows. also, if the dude medworks spoke with said that it was hard to describe the movement at this pt, what makes him think that they wont get to the regular list this year?? My speculation is that is it moving the at the same rate at last yr...or slower....but of course that means absolutely NOTHING to us, right?!?!?

Spin😀 😀

Maybe one of you ladies can talk to the guy that answers the phones in a sexy voice and get more information for us.

did anyone call today?

I called monday, and all they told me was that its moving real slow, and can't tell you where your on the list.

Trizi your over in bethesda? Hard to get job at NIH??

It's not too hard to get a position at NIH. It's a bit harder to get into a lab that is doing exactly what you are interested in (I'm lucky). I had a to wait a few months before getting an interview for a Postbac position, so it kind of depends on how many labs are looking for new people when you apply. I would guess that late winter/early spring is the best time to apply since a lot of IRTAs leave for med school or grad school in the summer. Oh, and having research experience will definitely help you out, although I had none and managed to get into a great lab. I am very very lucky. If you are thinking about applying to NIH if you don't get in, I would go ahead and fill out the application.

why is it moving slow? everyone else's is moving pretty good 😕

When they say the list is moving slowly, they mean it is moving slowly. The size of the list has no effect on the speed at which it moves. The list is moving slowly because people are not withdrawing from the class. It is not moving slowly because there are a lot of people on the list.

I guess we are all screwed, I am working on my personal statement just in case, I think I'll apply to 30 schools this time.

.... it's so depressing to know that the waitlist is moving slow... it's been a rough year and I don't think reapplying is really an option for me...

Yeah, tell me about it. I applied to 23 schools and got 1 interview. I was expecting more....at least 3 or something. We can always apply early decision to Upstate in the fall. Maybe being on the HP list will give us a bit of an advantage. Hang in there almond joy.

I really don't think that Upstate has ordered the waitlist by MCAT and GPA. I mean I have a 35 & 3.7 and when I called and teh way the person on the phone made it sound, it would be a long while if i am called at all.

I don't even know for sure if it is moving slowly. When I called he didn't say that... I asked him "how is moving this year relative to last" he said "it's too early to tell, but it probably won't get to hold-by-committee. . . Class start August 26" If the list is larger maybe that's why it won't get exhausted. Like I said, I'll call again next week. Maybe they will have a better idea then. After all, didn't it just start moving?

It's hard to believe they will break the 350 record again. From my calculations thats at least 60 more acceptances-- 110 people i'd say 50/50, not great-- but it's better than the lottery. 😉

geldrop -- 35 and 3.7? did you apply late....and interviewed late....? but don't worry....with stats like that...i'm sure if this year doesn't work out...you'll be in next year for sure... 🙂

i'm working at my PS too right now...geez, i thought being on the HPL was at least better than being on some other school's waitlist...but it seems pretty hopeless now....sigh......

But i don't want to wait another year.

It's only June 6th people. I wouldn't give up on the HP list just yet. Last year I thought I wouldn't get in either because the list was moving so slowly, but then I got a call in mid-August. Hang in there!!!!

Did you already start filling out next years apps and submit the amcas by then??

Really sucks to shell out the 500 or so dollars to send all the amcas stuff in before you hear from the waitlists.

You could always just submit AMCAS with only one medical school on it, and then add additional schools after there is absolutely no hope of being taken off the waitlist (i.e. orientation/classes start).

its monday again!!!
hopefully...we'll hear some good news 🙂

Hi,

I am on the hold by committee list, to my understanding that is a list they go into after the high priority alternate list at SUNY UPSTATE.

Does anyone have ANY clue if this list has EVER been tapped into in previous years? Is it a polite rejection?
Does anyone knows when is the last day they call people off this list?

For all those you on the high alternate priority list, I hope you ALL get offers!!!!

Any advice, wisdom, or hope would be very much appreciated,
HELP

HELP, from speaking with the admissions people, they didn't sound so sure that they'd even get to a lot of the HP people. So if your applying next year send your stuff in. However there is a possibility, maybe lots of people got in other schools that were on the HP list, so then they'll get through it all even if not many people turn down their offers.

PS anyone want to call today and give us an update? PS ask how the list is ordered.

So this is one of my fears, I dread that I will be in that situation....of course me biggest fear is not getting in....But ANYWAY...

Harry, how did that work out when you got your acceptance right before classes started? Did you have to hurry up and move? How did you find housing and such?? Just wondering how you handled the situation. Your insight will probably help others on this thread as we try to make plans for the fall!!!

thanks,
Spin😀 😀

Actually, I didn't start med school last year because I didn't want to drop everything and head up to Syracuse at the last minute. I deferred for one year. I'm starting this August.

Oh right...I think you may have mentioned that already....ooops. If you have said it before and I just dont pay attn, sorry!!!
Hopefully we will be classmates this fall then!!!! 🙂

So apparently about 10 people have been called off the list so far, and its moving although not as fast as last year. They try to contact you and give you a few days to decide, and if they can't reach you, you remain at the top of the list until you ask specifically to be removed from the list.

Thanks for the info Geldrop. How did you manage to squeeze that info out?! Or are they freely giving away what was once secret 😉 ?

Well, 10 people called in the first week of WL season for Upstate...not too too bad *fingers crossed*
