Hi everyone, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to view my post to give me some advice. My main concern is the 124 in the c/p section. Will this be below the cut off for many schools and greatly limit my chances?

I have created a school list and attached it below. I am trying to move to the northeastern region and I have a very strong preference for a school in an urban environment with a strong research department, especially since I'll likely be living in that location long term. My intended specialty is psychiatry or neurology so schools with strong psych and neuro departments is also something I'm looking for.

1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS

  • -cGPA 3.69 sGPA 3.62

2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown
  • 510 (124,127,127,132)

3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
  • Florida

4. Ethnicity and/or race
  • African-American Male

5. Undergraduate institution or category
  • Small private no-name liberal arts college

6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
  • Licensed practical nurse worked over 500 hours and currently working as such
  • Worked in a non-profit medical clinic that exclusively severed the homeless and those below the poverty line (200 hrs)
7. Research experience and productivity
  • Participated in a neuroscience REU
  • Working as a post-bacc research scholar currently
  • 1 Publication published co-second author (Brain Structure and Function)
  • 1st author publication in progress for submission
  • 2nd author publication
  • Over 5 poster presentations at local and national conferences

8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
  • Shadowed MD and MD-PhD neurologist (50hrs total)
  • No PCP shadowing unfortunately

9. Non-clinical volunteering
  • Volunteered at an orphanage (150hrs)

10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
  • President of the premed organization at my university grew the organization and hosted a mental health fundraiser (1yr as president 1yr vice president)
  • Teaching assistant for 3 years

11. Relevant honors or awards
  • First place in the university science symposium for my independent research

12. Anything else not listed you think might be important
  • Started an IRB application and started the process of building a minority enrichment educational study prior to COVID-19 shutting down that opportunity.

Georgetown
George Washington

Thank you for the feedback I appreciate that, and I'll go ahead and add those schools. Are there any schools, in particular, you think I should remove? I did want to keep some reaches in to see if I can score an interview.

Also, just to confirm. The 124 c/p won't hurt me too bad correct? I was planning to retake the MCAT this month but my recent practice scores have been about 506/507 and just thinking of risk to reward overall isn't worth it. However, if a 124 would be hard cut off for many programs I could delay my exam.

Your 124 may matter at reach schools but in the context of having a 510 MCAT. It is not worth the risk of retaking the MCAT and scoring lower.
