I know someone posted about going to school in Canada and then practicing in the US after — I kind of have the same question except my SO is a Canadian citizen so I’d be moving to Canada as a US citizen.

I went to a NAVLE prep course for one of the programs trying to convince you to sign up with them and they said I have to apply now (current 3rd year) because there’s an application process I have to go through after passing the NAVLE so I should apply now even though I’m not taking the NAVLE until November/December.

Is anyone more familiar with the process of becoming a Vet in Canada and how early I need to start reaching out to clinics for interviews? The whole process is a bit overwhelming since I’ve never had an actual job in a professional setting so I’m not even sure what I need to be successful or have a better chance of being offered a job.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I don’t know about the ins and outs of licensing - that would be based on the province and/or city you’re practicing in.

One thing to consider though is your work visa. I only know about it peripherally but you’ll need to job offer to apply for the visa. So the earlier you apply to jobs, the earlier you would have an offer in hand. I don’t think the visa would be accepted based on a contingent offer (I could be wrong) and I have no idea it’s taking them to process work permits at this point.

As for the job interviews, it may be tough because presumably they’ll want to interview you face to face and that may equate to a lot of time and expense on your part for travel. (You’ll want to consider the weather too!) They may not even consider interviewing a third year student  But it doesn’t hurt to ask.
