I have a HPSP scholarship and will be starting my first year of Med School soon.

What is the earliest that a USAA account can be opened? The customer service rep I talked w/ said an account couldn't be opened until 3 months before BOLC (but he stated he had never heard about the HPSP program before). Has anyone had any luck opening an account earlier?

Once you have commissioned you should be able to open an account. You may need to forward them paperwork confirming your commissioning as an officer (oath of office, etc).

I'm pretty sure I opened my account about eight months before med school and also never had to send any supporting documents.

Thx everyone. I called back again, and I was able to get signed up. I just had to really emphasize the fact that HPSP is different (and that I already took the oath of office).
