Hi Everyone,

If you are currently a student at USC, please discuss or list positives and negatives of ASPID:

I am currently accepted by three dental schools and seriously considering attending USC.

In most of the post, people are saying this is not that much good program compare to others. However nobody is mentioning about any specific problem students are facing over there except problem based learning. At my perspective, I have already learned enough theory and want to make myself very efficient clinically and thus choosing it.

However, I would like to hear about faculty's interest in students clinical training, facilities available to the international dentists such as enough and well equipped dental chairs and number of patients, exam system and graduation requirements in detail from the current students and alumni.

Please put some light on the facts of the program, so we can make well informed decision. I would truly appreciate your time and effort. 🙂

I didn't heard great things about USC, somebody over there told me that if you have to wait one year to get accepted somewhere else then wait rather than choosing USC. Although I went for IV, not selected. But USC is not a good choice that is for sure. It can be good for you if it is only school you have to select. . No other college in US does the same thing as they do. After IV we even don't know who is the program director, nobody gave us the school tour. There teaching method is also not great. it is use a private expensive school. Not much clinical training. Everybody knows that, and this affect the job also forever that you are USC graduate. I would suggest you to get into some other school as they must be a lot better than this. Go for school that will train you well as after graduation nobody is going to train you, you are by yourself for practice.

I am not saying that USC don't have good dental program really. But there is something going on that's why half of the student who got the acceptances from USC , they prefer to go to other School And that's happens since last many years. So If you get a chance to go to other university then it preferable to go to optional school.

USC is a very reputed school. I have friends who have graduated and some who are at present in the school. all of them say that they are very satisfied with this program.
LOTS AND LOTS OF PATIENTS BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION. (poor and homeless)
They also have a mobile dental clinic and students have to do a compulsory rotation service .And also a dental office in downtown area to treat the poor.....SO as per as the patient pool and experience is concerned you can see for yourself.
I think if u r already done with part 1 n 2 and want hands on experience on loads of patients USC is the school.Reason why some students have to move to other states after graduation is because L..A. is saturated with dentists because of 3 schools in 1 city ...so u can see how many graduate each year.
SO if u feel USC is the school go ahead.......if possible talk to the ASPID students urself and check it out.
best wishes.

I really appreciate your explanatory answer. I have heard the same things about the program. I guess this is a good program for the people who are looking for excellent clinical training. Once again thanks for sharing your experience!

what all options do you have? you can not expect any bad things from current students about their schools on social websites. what you should do instead is, post your view of selecting USC over other schools and people here will guide you for that decision.

Many people choose different schools over USC, there are some reasons, I don't to discuss them in detail here. But they are smart enough with there research to get education at best school. As your education and training is going to help you in future. Passing part 1 and part 2 doesn't mean you know everything in dentistry. Dentist ranging from recent graduates to older ones need to learn something always at some point in there life. It is always a never ending learning branch- like you want to do RCT's( ant to post), composites, veneers, esthetic dentistry implants, complicated restorative procedures, diagnosis of difficulty cases and many other things. It is not that easy unless you graduate from competent and decent school

Well said. 👍

But I think we cannot judge or measure the quality of a program by how many ppl choose it when they have multiple options. Most of ppl will consider about tuition, living expense, location.... So many factors can affect our decisions.

I agree with that truly

But expenses that you spend on tuition, living will not count much once you start earning. If you are very qualified, know lots of procedures comfortably then it in return will help you earn far more than dentist who does only routine procedures. Once you will start Interviewing for your jobs than you will feel the difference, what did they ask you for that job position or else if you will compared to your dental associates for the the quality and procedures you know.

Congrats on your acceptance....have fun in school! UOP is a very good school for sure. it will help reshaping your career.

Thanks! agree with you.
