USC Class of 2012: Trojan Family Thread

MAN!!! the waiting is killing me~~~ I am sooo stressed out because of this wait~ argh~ I never felt this anxious with the other schools, but I guess it is because I really want to go to USC!!
Jim did say 3-4 weeks.. I wish it was 3! BUT if I am going to receive a small envelope, then I might want to delay the news..
sigh.. I have so many mixed feelings~~~

she didn't hear wrong. I interviewed in january and I was grilled! very much so. maybe because I walked in too confidently and they wanted to chop me down, or maybe he was just in a mood. Didn't matter though, I still did a decent job.
but be ready for everything, and if they do grill you, don't let that throw you. just do it like you practiced, be confident, and you'll be fine.

Now, I am really curious. How did he grill you? And, did you get accepted by USC still?

im actually relieved that my interviews are over! Traveling and stressing out about perfoming well is finally DONE!

the wait is a little stressful, but not as bad as before the interviews. Now it is out of my hands, completely.

so are we looking for a BIG yellow envelope or what? I can't wait!!!

good luck to everyone! 🙂

lol, you should have let us all think that the white envelope is our rejection!!! now i know not to be sad if i see a white envelope!

would have scared everyone 😱

What the heck? 👎 That was on purpose right around week 4. I got my hopes up for nothing.

well, any answer i gave, it was like it wasn't good enough for him, so he kept asking questions, almost like trying to pick me apart, Like i was a witness in court, and the lawyer was trying to find flaws in my testimony.

so one example, he asked me " so if you weren't doing pharmacy, what would you be doing? so i replied that I would like to be a tour guide at disneyland (i figure it's a job that i would enjoy doing).so then he asked me, well, why not just be that tour guide, why are you here doing pharmacy?' I can't recall what my response was, but i think it was something along the lines of my experiences working as a pharm tech, and i take pride in being able to serve my community and helping patients in that capacity (generic answer i know, but still ) .
so he asked me further, 'well, why not just work as a pharm tech, b/c you still get to serve the community like you said before, etc'

so like i said, i felt like he was trying to make me stumble. believe me, i was grilled. did anyone else experience this?

^wow that sucks...sorry!

the worst i got was when he asked about pos/neg of the pharmacy i work in...and then asking me to give him additional points (i guess the amount i gave him weren't enough) but it wasn't as bad as yours, scrubs fan

haha, thank for the sympathy. as bad as it was, i think i handled it well enough. but I guess we'll find out in a week or so when they send letters out.

Jill(waiting for a heart transplant): "You know, if i get the heart, great. If i don't get the heart, that's fine too. It's just the waiting that i hate"

I can understand why he asked the questions, but I wasn't there to hear how he asked the questions. One of the key points they're trying to guage for the ADCOM is your enthusiasm for Pharmacy, had your second career choice been healthcare related, or the explanation of the choice covered attributes that you could associate with pharmacy, it may not have gone farther. My guess is he was trying to help you out, but I can really only assume and hope that's the case. As you said the letter in the next couple weeks will show how well he thought you did. I'd be interested to know who the interviewer was.

damnit!
i got the small white envelope

.......but it was the financial aid supplemental form reminder

I just received the same letter! I was all excited...thinking it was an interview invitation. haha

i received the white envelope of death 🙁

i have been put on active consideration

Are you being serious this time? 😀

Since you are in SoCal, I guess you would be the first to receive such a letter. I'll see what I get :scared: Man, pharmacy in California is so competitive now.

i have been accepted to my #2 (jefferson in philly), so i'm not THAT bummed...but USC was my #1
i actually cancelled my western interview because i probably wouldn't attend it (too close to home/too similar of a setting--i want to go somewhere a little different) if i got in

hey leinaala6--i also haven't heard anything since receiving the lack back in Nov. i guess it couldn't hurt to call them just to make sure nothing's missing or needed on your end. i called and they said my file was still under review and to sit tight--the next (and last) interview's on march 29. so, hopefully we will all hear something within the next 2-3 weeks!! good luck!

i see, i'll do that then. thanks and good luck to u

i also have received this envelope. guess interview didn't go as well as I had thought. Ohwell, i'm okay either way, but would definitely like to hear an acceptance sooner than later. Congrats to those accepted, good luck to those still waiting.

I was in the active consideration from the nov interview and still there from the jan interview 🙁 They only accepted 7 from the NOV AC group? I dont think they rejected anyone from the nov ac group either? I just want to get in! USC is my first choice.. I got accepted into TOURO, havent heard from Western. Im still patiently waiting from Western as well.

did you call the office and ask them about the status of the nov AC?

-edit-

so i just called the office and they said that they mailed out everything on friday so everyone should be receiving something today or this week. in terms of the people on the nov AC list (including myself), the office didn't say anything about it, they just said that the applications would be reviewed after each interview and be sent out something. So yeah...good luck to all of you still waiting and press on!

When you said everyone would receive something this week, are you talking about people who are waiting for March interviews as well?

I was in the information section on Feb 9, they told me the march interview invitation will be sent out at the beginning of March. Who did you talk to? Are we talking about the USC March interview??? I am confused because the USC admission people told me to wait until the beginning of March.

sorry guys i was referring to the people that have interviewed already (ie the nov and jan interviewees), the office (323-442-1466) said nothing about the march interviews...i was just inquiring about the people that have interviewed already because i was in the november Active Consideration list...sorry for the confusion

omg!!! i just got the big yellow envelope, and i am so happy!! i don't know anyone from LA or even CA for that matter, so i hope to meet you all soon and make lots of good friends! 😀

Congrats on ur acceptance and welcome to CA! Let us know if you need any apartment recommendations in the area. There's cities such as Alhambra, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San gabriel where you will be able to find an apt. with reasonable rent. It's close to USC health sciences campus too. These areas have a wide selection of asian cuisines, if you're into that. The cities mentioned above are relatively safe and don't forget the option you have to dorm on campus. 🙂

Congrats!

Yes! I got in too!😍 would you recommend dorm or off-campus apartments for P1?

congratulations to you too! Regarding your question, it really depends on your budget. There are pros and cons of living on campus. The pro, you can literally wake up 10 minutes before your class begins (and class begins at 8am ) and walk to the adjacent building where your classes will be held. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. You can get your own room or dorm with a roommate. There are a mixture of other health professionals that live in the dorms, including med students. I had a sibling who use to live at the dorm. BTW, the dorm is called Seaver Hall. The other advantage of living on campus is not having to find parking. But I'm sure the current students can give you more advice on that.

The biggest con is dining. The health science campus is really nice, but there's hardly any decent restaurants to dine in the area. While you're on campus, ask for "Sam's truck", he serves good food!

I only suggested to the previous poster to dorm because she's out-of-state.

Hey guys,

My brother says I got a big USC packet in the mail. It must be the acceptance letter. The problem is that I'm not home to actually take a look at it.

Is there anything important in there that I need to take care of other than the deposit? Also, how is the deposit processed? Do I just need the address and send them a check with my USC ID on it?

I'm not sure what I need from the packet to reserve my spot. If anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated!

👍 😍

If it's a big yellow envelope, it must be it.

In the envelope, there's a "deposit form", where you put down date, social security#, name, address, phone, signature, and you check "enclosed $500. For Fall **" (you fill in the blank to indicate it's fall08). Mail the $500 by 2/29. Oh, it can't be personal check, but cashier's check or money order. I'm not sure how important the "deposit form" is. It's just a half sheet of paper. If they really care about it that much, you can call them and see if they will send you a electronic form so you can print it out.

The letter also says to complete your pre-reqs by 8/18. Maintain a 3.00+ GPA. Reserve your 8/19-8/22 for a mandatory orientation.

That's about it.

I'm from Nov interview and still on active consideration. I think with my 3.2 GPA< i should give up. Goog luck to all who is still waiting!

I feel your pain I am from Feb w/3.3, degree and completed pre reqs. but the letter I got says it is not happening. But don't feel so bad you are not lonely on the ac.

I think you meant "3.2 GPA>"(I'm assuming your GPA is less than a 3.2). If you can't get the less than or greater than signs right before pharmacy school, you might have a problem. I just had a K-type exam and some of the questions had those exact signs... such and such lab values less than or greater than the normal call for dialysis, surgery, additional drug therapy, etc.
