USC Class of 2013

I was wondering if anyone who submitted their supplemental application for USC on or after 9/25/2008 received an interview. It seems like everyone who received an interview turned in their application before the date above. If someone did receive an interview after submitting their application past the 9/25/2008 date please let me know. Also does anyone know the precise date you had to have turned in your application to receive an interview for the nov 15 interview date? Please let me know, thanks!!

I submitted mine around August 3rd. If you submitted it late September, I don't think you will receive an interview in November. Look out for the upcoming sessions; good luck!

For the interview session, what do we need to bring?
I remember reading about the interview process a few years ago, and they used to tell you to bring in a pre-typed 300 word essay. Do we just write that at the interview session now?

I submitted mine in late August but I'm wondering if it took too long to evaluate to make the 1st cut. I got my lack letter on 09/29...maybe that's it? Dunno. We'll see. 🙂

Is the Supplemental Application and Document Acknowledgment the lack letter? I submitted my supplemental 10/1 and received that email 10/13 - only 2 weeks when it took you a month? 😕

No - the lack letter is an evaluation of your pre-reqs. You will get it later.

It says on the invitation letter that you need to bring your ID. I did not see any additional essay requirement...hopefully there isn't.....😕

If you have received an interview and you submitted your supplemental application ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER 25.. please let me know as I am very worried that I did not receive an interview. I called the office today and they said that they evaluated my application but did not decide to select me for the November 15th interview date. Thank you!

The office has already told you themselves that they decided not to offer you a spot to the Nov. interview... what exactly are you confused about? 😕

He wants to make sure that he didn't receive an interview because he applied too late, not because they didn't like his application.

Remember that there are three other interview sessions, so if you did not get invited to this one, you have three other chances. Remain calm and cool about it, you will be fine. And good luck. :luck:

What has been said is true. You shouldn't worry about it. Until you receive a rejection, you can't assume anything from a school. Try to refrain from calling any school though. It may come off as unprofessional or arrogant. The only time you should ever contact a school is to show your intent on that school, and its way too soon to start thinking that way.

I realize this might be a tad embarrassing because I'm still on my supplemental, but I was wondering if anyone could help me:

If I'm going to be graduating with a degree in May 2009, I don't need to be putting "Additional Humanities" or "Additional Behavioral/Social Sciences" in that Coursework list in Part II, correct?javascript:selectSection(7);

My bad guys...I misrepresented myself about the Supplemental Application and Document Acknowledgment Form. I received an email at 9:38 AM today and there was an attachment titled lacking_1.rtf which contains the pre-reqs and which courses I am LACKING. I suppose this is the lack letter instead of the Supplemental Application and Document Acknowledgment Form.

You don't have to.

Thanks very much for the quick response, Jaded!

I have taken 2 sections of Human Anatomy and Physiology but since they only need 1 semester, would it be smartest to just enter in the one that I got the higher grade in? Or do the grades on this input not matter.

Look up your college/university and see what satisfies the prerequisite on USC website. USC Equivalencies Usually, only one or all (series) course is/are required to complete the requirement. If not, then yes, put the highest grade term.

Edit: Minimum requirements does not necessarily mean that you will satisfy the requirement. Don't view prerequisites in terms of term length.

If it is a two semester sequence course of Anatomy and Physio, chances are you need both semesters to fulfill the physiology requirement (since USC doesn't require anatomy). But do what the above poster said and look up your course equivalences.

Unfortunately my school's not on there (or maybe I'm just being stupid). But yeah, I'll definitely just put both lectures and both labs on there. Thanks to both of you guys.

How long do you receive a lack letter after submitting pharmcas n supplemental?

I submitted PharmCAS on 8/12 and USC supplemental on 10/8 and got the lack letter on 10/30. So for me I guess it took about 3 weeks? It is probably different for other people.

Yeah, I submitted USC Supplemental on 10/2 and still haven't received the lack letter yet.

Let me ask you guys what you think of this situation:

So I call USC to make sure they have everything of mine because there was a error on my lack letter. They fixed up everything and said my file was complete. I then started asking about the interview dates (i.e. the Nov. 15th date). The lady on the phone who was looking at my profile said the Nov. 15th date was booked. But after that she said, there are cancellations of people who can't come and whatnot. Then she asked me if I was interested in for interviewing for that date. Unfortunately I had to turn down the offer because that weekend I need to study for my physio midterm (because I kind of bombed my first midterm) on that Monday. I said I would just wait for the normal processing to receive a letter in the mail if I do get invited for the interview for the other inteview date.

But what do you guys think about that?...was that like practically a giveaway for me getting an interview?

i received an email saying my application was complete on 8/28 and i just got my lack letter today....kinda late!

I just receive the email said that my file is completed 🙂. I submitted everything on Oct 26. I am waiting for an interview now. How long do you guys wait for an interview?

They usually let applicants know about 3 weeks before the interview date. Since they had sent out all the letters two weeks ago for the Nov 15 interview, you still have 3 more dates to look forward to.

Did the lack file says "complete"? Or can we assume it is complete if there are no "lack" checks? Thanks.

So lets think about this logically. You are taking physiology to gain acceptance into pharmacy school yet you turn down an interview at USC School of Pharmacy to study for physiology? Unbelievable. There were 15 days before the interview--plenty of time to study for ANY exam.

This reminds me of the end of the movie Dumb and Dumber (not implying you're dumb by any means) when the bus load of hot models drives up to homeless Lloyd and Harry and offers them jobs traveling the country oiling them up before their competitions. They proceed to tell the models where they can find a qualified person in the town up the road.

Hopefully they give ya another shot during the next round of interviews. You're obviously qualified so I wish you the best.

It's not unbelievable. The poster wasn't formally given an interview. This isn't the same as a decline. At least I think it would be unprofessional for USC to call it that without a paper trail. Should that person not be invited for an interview in January, then I would say its unfair. Considering pharmacy schools don't believe in flexibility with interviews, I would be pretty apprehensive with respect to USC until that hardcopy letter does arrive.

I had a similar experience for another set of interviews. Admissions called me to see if I would interview Friday of that week, but I told them I would be out of state. I declined, but they affirmed me they would just send me the invitation to schedule an interview.

Formal or not the OP was given an interview opportunity. I hope for his/her sake that a second interview opportunity is granted in January. However, my point revolved around the irony of the situation. Turning down an interview for pharm school because you have to study for a class to get into pharm school.

Well...I'm not the applicant, so I can't really speak for their ability. Should that person fail or do poorly in the course and update the PharmCAS, then according to the admissions director, said person would lose their spot in the accepted pool to a more competitive applicant.

You do have a point though. I would say said person would have a problem with time management in pharmacy school. If this person was a strong student, then I can't imagine that attitude of dismissing an invitation. I just rather look on the bright side when things cannot be undone.

of course the grade for said course wouldn't be updated in pharmcas until the interviews for February had already been sent out, and unless the grade was less than a C, it wouldn't matter. Just saying.😉

Thank you guys for your responses. It is as Jaded03 said, there is no paper trail confirming an interview, and also if I do poorly in this class, I would just as likely lose my spot even if I was accepted. It is not because I had poor time management, the circumstances behind my poor grade on my first physio midterm were beyond my control. I'd rather not explain myself about that here, but that is why I need to remedy this problem. Other than one upper div chem lab last quarter (in which I got a B-), the lowest grade I have ever gotten in my undergraduate career was a B+. I think the USC phonecall situation took me by surprise as well, but there is no way of confirming the interview for sure over a phone call. So I will just leave it at that and I am perfectly content with my decision.

Congrats to all that receive interview from USC, BTW does anyone know the format of USC essay? and the time they give you to examine the paper and write the essay?

yes, they did say my file is completed. Also, today, they sent me another email list all of the required course I took and am taking and plan to take. After I finish this semester, I only need my ochem lab and statistic.

ahhhh~ the interview is coming up very soon! anyone else nervous?? :scared:

Good luck guys...just try to relax. They like you enough to bring you in for an interview, there's probably a lot of things about you that have impressed them and the interview is just icing on the cake.

I hope you all do well. I would like to get a shot at this school sometime as well. 🙂

Being from TN, it's no doubt going to be exciting. I can't wait to see you all.🙂😀

Btw, my letter says that my interview time is at 11:40am.
-Does that mean my interview begins at 11:40am or does that mean the orientation begins at 11:40am?
-What time should I preferebly arrive at the interview site if my interview is at 11:40?

In addition, how are the gpa ranges for the interviewees for 11/15 date? Is it composed of mostly high gpa ppl or dispersed?

Thanks!

Farmecyst, can you please pm me the format of the essay also.

thank you

Hi Farmercyst

I know this sounds redundant but can you please share with us any advice you have regarding to the essay. Like format, duration, and the type of questions/prompts for the essay portion. Thank you.

It doesn't sound redundant, it sounds full of fear. Lol, cmon now. You wrote your PS and Supplementals and they still opted to interview you right? Why now are you worried about a writing sample? Relax, you'll be fine. That is unless you had somebody else write them forrrrr youuuuuuu DUN DUN DUN!!!

Hehehe. I wish I had someone to write my PS and Supp AND have someone else interview for me. I think it's just nerves due to the anticipation. but i know on that day i will be okay.
i'm just wishing really hard that my parents would make it back here in time before my interview. unfortunately they are abroad. i feel like such a whiner for wanting my parents here just to say good luck to me (but i kinda need it).

You've worked so hard for so long, this is just one more page in the book. Confidence is going to be key. If not as a personality trait, then as a relaxation factor for you. Put on some music to pump you up, remember where you came from, how hard you've worked, and go in there and tear it up.

It means get there by at least 11:15. Anyways, getting there early will allow you to talk with other interviewees and calm your nerves.
