hi all,

I guess some of the people here must have got their interview letters from USC.This thread is to get them together and see what information we can come up with.
Anyone over here knows about the USc clinical exam, please do advise. What are the prosthodontic and operative procedures we are required to do? Where we could get the instruments and also if we could get some training other than Duggan classes.
thanks

hey guys,
I too have the same q's to ask....
from where do we manage to get all the instruments and how do we practice?
is there anyone who wants to sell their handpiece, typodont, instruments, compressor etc ...please send me a pm

reg the practical exam at usc...they have mentioned abt fpd procedures no rpd stuff....so i guess we have to practice cl2 ,cl3, inlays, onlays and crowns.
any input is welcome from those who have appeared at the USC exam
Thanks.

Hi,

Posted this question on another thread, but did'nt get a reply. Do we have a written test in addition to the practical at USC? An answer will be appreciated. I have the same question about the instruments, any1 selling? Also, do we have to dress formal for all 3 days of the interview?

Hi,

I called USC today, seems we have to wear formals all 3 days!!! 🙁 . I was told that there will be a 'small' written test, but the lady I spoke to was not really sure about this. She said," I 'think' you'll have a small written test as well, but I am not sure".

As far as the instruments go, the bookstore there is charging $760ish for the entire list. The handpiece and typhodont cost the most($400 and $185 respectively).

Any ideas how many typhodont teeth we are supposed to take with us? Hope this helps, good luck.

1) People Wore Semi Formals (Some Wore Decent T-Shirts and Jeans too) for two days when the Practical Exams. For the Day we had Group Discussion every one Wore Business Formals

2) Instruments: Try to manage from some one that you know. The Instruments that USC sells are good in quality but expensive

hi guys,

I dont think there is a written exam in USC, but I could be wrong.I wanted to ask you guys if the high speed hand piece from India would work in the US?I have my entire set from back home, but i dont know if the burs would fit since i need to use a different hand piece.
Also i would like to ask everyone when their interview date is.Is everyone being interviewed on the 4th 5th and the 6th of November?

guys,
in usc they have mentioned that we need to get a 5 hole hand piece...
i was wondering if i could get a 4 hole handpiece?
will that do?anyone here from last year's usc exam has any info if we can carry the 4 hole handpiece for exam

I was very happy to get an interview call from USC but i'm now little worried about those instrument thing. Does anyone have idea where to get those instruments?? I'm now staying in NJ so I wanna know if USC bookstore mail those instruments or is there some other place that I can get those around here. Anyone has same questions with me?? plz reply this post.......
Do we still use those instruments after we got accepted??? then I think
there's no harm for buying a new one.

You cant' really say how much score do u need to get called for an interview. Their miniumum score for applying is an 80 i think so that's an average...but getting an 80 doesn't guarantee you an interview...i got an 84 and got an interview call...i think so far at least on this forum i have the lowest score that got a call at usc (correct me if i'm wrong) but my other scores were pretty good...so u really can't just base it on a part 1 score

Hello i also got the interview call last week. i think i will get the instruments from USC but like many of you i am also worried about the exam. i have not practised or taken any courses here. so i am really worried. i am in washington state and if any one of you have any information where i can have a class so that i feel better for the exam then do tell me. also i know i have very short time now....hope some one helps me out

Thanks

What is the total cost incl S&H - this is proving to be a very expensive proposition esp. since no other institue asks for the equipment. Also can you share the manufacturer info on handpiece ?

Pankaj

I have an 84 too like khurram and have been called in for an interview. Does anyone know which exact procedures were asked the last few years in the practical tests and do all applicants called in for interviews have equal chances of being accepted or do applicants with higher scores still given preference.

Hi,
Congrats on getting the interview call. Did u reapply this year or you applied for the first time?

I also have an interview with USC, as per their interview details they didnt mention anything about the written test, but they do have english test for those who scored below 250 in TOEFL.
Regd the instruments, can i know what others are going to do for it, is it possible to rent them from somewhere. getting from them seems very expensive. Your inputs are worthly expected. All the best.

Hello Kriss,
No they didn't select me yet for the interview 🙁 ..and I don't think they will be selecting later 👎 ..I had part 1 88 , good gpa & a decent toefl score and 1.5 years of work experience as a dentist and now as a dental assistant..

Even yesterday I called them & they said there is no change in status of my application 🙁 and they also told me that they don't select candidates for interview based only on part 1 scores...Now I really don't know what I should do to improve my stats.

It's frustating to know that I am not even in to the competetion 🙁 ...

California schools have no rolling admissions and I don't think they will be interviewing in batches...

hi,

Dont worry about the score.I think 88 is a very decent score but you really cant say about any of these school and on what basis they call you for theinterview.I know that most schools see when u have sent your application.Maybe u sent it late or something.
I was wondering if you have applied to other schools, try boston, nyu and u-penn.I know they are still accepting applications and i am sure u have a chance in one of them.
keep up the good faith and dont give up.
take care

That's mean that is 5 holes total? is gonna work perfect, even if you have a 4 holes without fib Opt. is ok. because it is gonna fit ok on the 5 hole connection...

Hi all,

For the USC test, is anyone of you carrying an equilibrated typodont? If yes, where are you buying equilibrated typodont from? Can we get our unequilibrated typodont equilibrated from somewhere? How important is it to have an equilibrated typodont for the exam?

thx.

What in the world is a mod3/4th only?
i've heard of a 3/4 crown prep but not that ,
someone explain!!!!!!!!!!
also what difference is there in the prep for an inlay and an onlay,
is there a difference in the beveling we give ?
these are all house job things that they teach,
and i havne't done my house job yet 🙁

Khurram no big deal
a 3/4 onlay from my knowledge is the same thing as a 3/4 prep,, inlays and onlays have the basic difference that the former will not cover cusps and the latter does.
should I be wrong or misunderstood please explain then, my best wishes buddy.

Hello

Can anyone help me by sending me the preparation steps for 3/4 crown. i am very stressed regarding the usc exam....please help me people

thanks

hi,
i got a mail from usc that they wont be any written test and should we wear suit on all the 3 days,or semiformal will do..let me know please,
thanks,

As for my knowledge, 3/4 onlay is not 3/4 crown. In that we have to put boxes instead of grooves but we have to do reduction like 3/4(chamfer) but i am not sure about do we have to put offset or we have to do isthmus cutting like olnay.
If anybody has clear idea please help here

thanks,

Guys, didn't anyone find out what the hell a 3/4th onlyay is?? is i'm so confused, i've never even heard of that..i mean on a 3/4th crows we just dont prepare the buccal side rigth? so how woudl that be on an onlay ? it doestn make any sense to me at all... 😱

Hi guys,

i received a letter from USC today saying that u have to have equilibrated dentiform for the practical test. can anyone tell me what that means and the typhodont USC sells is not equilibrated, so does anyone know where to equilibrate the dentiform. any suggestions will be of more useful. Thanx in advance.

hi,
