You don't need to buy all the instruments. Use the ones that you have, but check the handpieces, some cpuntries only have 2 holes, here is 4 holes. Don't worry a letter must be arriving in a couple of days.

I also got a call from USC for 29th and 30th practical exam.

Does anyone know, what do they ask in the operative and prostho practical exam, I am really scared, if anyone can guide me with something, it will be a great help to me and to everyone,

hi,
as for the instruments, the most expensive equipment are the handpieces,
you can borrow them from your friends in school, if not that ask the usc guys, what kind of hand piece fits into their labs, you can buy pretty cheap one's from your local dealers. they even mentioned a slow sped handpiece, well its up to you whether you need it or not. all the regular burs and instruments, you can easily buy at your local dealers.

But i have a major problem.. My interview dates for Pit and USc clash😡 .. wat can i do about it... I read a post on petition for delay of interview... U think its possible??

About the instruments.. the fee is too high!! 😱 can;t we request them to let us pay some money for the rentals??

I am in... let's think about a uniform header and message body everybody can use in the same time!

I just got an e-mail from USC that everybody who was selected for an interview was anounced,but also they told me that it is a possibility that after next wednesday to by an other round.

but,i have never heard about that.......r u sure u have to get the transcripts from our university in a sealed envelope.....
which part of nj r u from...i am from nj too....northern nj...
but i havent yet decided for the day to leave for la.

hey there,
i got a call tooo...but i have no idea how to use most of these hand[eices here...ihave not seen them or used them in quite a while... can u help me out about the instruments...this sucks that they r not disclosing any details about wat they will ask in the exam...anybody else have any idea...
 
can anyone tell me where to get the typodonts and other instruments from outside beside the usc store...

i heard that they ask questions oncerning the subjects tooo...is that true...
i am a wreck here....i am not in touch with the practical stuff...

taking the dugg.exam costing 2800...is that worth it..well there aint no time for that now......

I can rent high speed handpiece and slow speed handpiece for interviews cause that suff is way too expensive to buy.

I can rent out high speed and low speed hnadpieces for the interviews cause those are the most expensive items. I already have some students coming to my clinic to practice and brush up skill in the last few days. Space and equipment is limited so e mail ASAP if you want to reserve spot [email protected]

somebody plzz help me...can we use kilgore typodont or do we have to compulsorily use columbia typodont!!!!!!!

Call USC and find out what sort of typodont they need if applicable.
Do not buy the one that USC r not going to use. Besides Kilgore does not hv 32 teeth typodont at the moment. I bought 28 just for practice at my friend's clinic.

i had bought all the insturments for the bench test ( worth several thousand) and when i got into UCLA i had to buy their kit. It was mandatory!!it was pretty frustrating to have to buy doubles or triples of some insturments.I am not sure if the other schools also require the kit to be bought.
 
Does anyone know the timing when we r suppose to reach at USC on 29th.
It is not mentioned in there invitation letter.

hi all.. though i have nt received an interview call from usc..
some one has told me that what they ask is class 2 cavities, pfm crown preps..and sometimes 3/4th crown preps too...
so what u need is class 1 and 2 shoulder champher, 3/4th, onlay..

A New Typodont is very close to an equilibrated one. Duggan Institute will equilibrate only those Typodonts which are bought from them. They charge $200 for equilibration plus ~$190 for new Typodont and it takes about 10 business days. Unfortunately, I don’t see too options for you. Just keep the new one untouched and practice on old typodont (if you have extra one).
 
Can some body make me clear...how many seats they have for the advanced standing...last year when i came to states, i have requested them the catalog and the application for usc school of dentistry...in that catalog it says they have total 559 students..of which they have 60 advanced standing international dentists, 82 dental hygiene, 102 postdoctoral in advanced speciality programs, 41 M.S. and PhD candidates, 144 DDS students..can some one clear me whether they have 31 or 60 advanced standing international dentists...i read on sdn that they have 31.

COUNT ME IN. I THINK IT'S POSSIBLE TO ASK FOR ANOTHER PRACTICAL EXAM ON THE FOLLOWING SUNDAY. I THINK THE LAB WILL BE AVAILBLE ONLY ON SUNDAYS. LET'S START SENDING THE PETITION NOW!

BUT WHAT IF THEY DON'T GIVE US A MAKEUP? YOU GUYS WILL GIVE UP USC BECAUSE OF THEIR PBL PROGRAM?

for all those who mailed me asking me abt the compressor i saw... it is a home depot ..manufactured by husky air scout....89$(red color) oil free,,2.0 scfm at 90 psi, 3.0 scfm at 40 psi, 135 max psi ,1.5 gallon tank...

and we can order the foot control 70$, pressure guage 70$ and tubing about 12 $ from sullivan and schein (ph no:1- 800-645-6594 or 1 800 372 4346 )...

ok a couple of replies 😉

regarding the type of typodont we can use in USC...i have a kilgore & e-mailed meghan asking her if it was ok to use it instead of the columbia...i got her a reply a little too late (after i bought the columbia typodont!), but she told me that i could use my kilgore...so i guess that applies to all 😉

as for the home depot compressorl...DO NOT BUY THAT ONE!...i did & went thru sheer hell!...i had to re-compress every 10 minutes or so!...bottom line...1.5 gallons is NOT enuf to keep u working for a decent amount of time to finish any tooth prep...so i ended up returning it & getting the husky 6 gallon one instead...worked longer, but don't expect to be able to have time to finish because after about 3 times of refilling the compressor it heats up & u have to let it cool down...if i were u i would seriously start looking up dentists who would be willing to help u out...let u practice using ur handpiece in their office...some are actually quite nice & don't bite 😉...at least not like back home! 😉
