Hi guys,

I also have received an invitation for the 24th&25th of October.I'm trying to get as much info as possible.I know the exam consists of a pt. case scenario (pt needs cl.2 ,pfms or inlay/onlays) duplicating the ttt plan on the typodont, with RPD design and wax exercise.Second day is PBL discussion-info is very vague to me.Would appreciate it if anyone could enlighten us more on the interview process

From previous years I have heard rpd is included But not on the typodont itself(thats where will do the prep work on) Most probably on a stone model. They have asked previous applicants to bring a red/blue pencil to draw on cast. By the way Alldent did u receive the 2nd email about interview specifics?

I am unable to open attached two files, anybody pls tell me what is there inside, it only shows USC school of dentistry.

I got the interview invitation too....

Does anyone know which typodonts we will be given for the preparation ? (columbia/kilgore??)

Last year, they had a patient scenario which required a 7/8 crown, RPD design and a wax exercise...

I have not received an email that says exercises will be the same as last year or description of any of the exercises for this year... has anybody already received an email about it?

It is Columbia and you ll have to take all the instruments and typodont....(as per last year)

Don't bother about those attachments ...they are the name and logo of "Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC"...No specific information about the interview is available in the e-mail yet...

Hello Docs,

Anyone knows the details about the practical exam?
Should we bring our own instruments and typodont?

Any female wants 2 share accommodation from 23-25 oct in downtown LA ?

Cheers.

Thank you "trintrin" for the information ..
I am surprised though to hear that we have to take our instruments for the exam....Are you sure about that....??

Anyone knows how many applicants were invited to the interview?😎

Thank you Dr San
I have one query pls, if all of us have interview on 24 and 25 oct coz they say that we need to reserve seat till 1st october, wat does it mean, is it like we need to email Ms. Lauren if we will attend this or not? OR to tell them suitable date?

Benny,

There is a deadline on 1st of oct whether you attend BOTH 24 & 25 oct for interview and there is no make up for these dates, and attending both days are mandatory for all of us , the first day is for practical exam and second day is interview based on PBL.
you can send the email ( to what they sent us in the email invitation) to submit your attendance and once you've got another interview from other school you can choose from , until you send the interview fees to usc which is usually non-refundable.
But from I heard the schools arrange the interviews date that its not going to be in a same day !

hope this helps.

hi trintrin, you mentioned that last year they gave a patient scenario that required 7/8 crown, rpd and wax paatern. can you please explain it a bit did they have to do 7/8 crowns on typodont or what and what is the wax paatern about, i mean what is required on that part. how about rpd, what kind of designs are mostly asked at usc. please answer it. thanks.

Did anyone receive the details regarding the exam fee and instruments ? Will that be e-mailed to us like the invitation? I was just wondering why haven't they asked for the tech exam fee yet?

I have not received anything about it, I think they might be sending it out only to the candidates who have confirmed for the interview after Oct 1st

Hello Everyone

I think bench test for this university is different from others as most of universities ask for class 2 and pfm. How everyone is preparing for the exam. We have to do carving also?

Wat are the instruments we need to bring for the exam? It will be expensive to buy all the new instruments.

Hi all..this is my first time for an interview in any dental school for the 24 and 25th october at usc. I dont knwo much about the instruments to bring lik wat kinda typhodont and burs. If someone can share proper info about the instruments and the kind of tooth prepn which could be expected of us ,it would be a great help and I could start preparing accordingly.. One more thing if anyone knows practical training on east coast prefrably NY.Thankyou

Yes, 7/8 on columbia typodont, pfm, wax carving (carving tooth) exercise and rpd designs on paper only (for the given case)

But this was last year... I do not know what will they ask this year... !!!

it is columbia typodont.... you do not have to take all the listed instruments since it will cost you more than 2000 dollars...... just take the ones required for making an inlay, onlay, class 2, pfm, carving etc.

Hi guys
Thanks a lot for the info about preps and material..But do they also want wax carving lik i have been reading in our eralier posts?bcz one gal i askd went fr interview in 2008 and she said they only aksd fr crown preps??

hello

male looking for accom. for USC interview. please pm me.

thanks.......

hi there

I want to know what exactly do they ask in bench test..from the posts so far this is what i infer
1. crown prep 7/8
2. rpd design on casts/ model ( but which design and do we need to give lab instructions in written form too????)
3.wax carving( i it on wax blocks and they ask you carve a tooth like full crown and root form on it??????) if have no idea about the carving part???
4.any cavity prep???is filling included in it too???

Please anyone who has spoken with existent students or has taken the test ealier on please shed some light////

Thanks a lot and best of luck

If anybody got an email about bench exam information and instruments we need to take alongwith (from USC after invitation). And do we need to wear formals on both days?

Benny- day of bench exam you can wear whatever you want. I would suggest dressing in layers so that if you are hot/cold you can take the layers off/on accordingly.

Alident- they will NOT tell you to do a 7/8 crown. they will give you a case scenario and ask you to use your best judgement. For wax pattern they give you a block of wax and dimentions for a tooth (last time it was #8) and ask you to carve it out of the wax block. for RPD Design they want you to take a red/blue pencil and make a design on PAPER (Not not not A MODEL). kind of like a design you would give to your lab technician if you made an rpd for a patient. last time it was Class II modification I i believe .
as for cavity prep, again, they give you a scenario so you ahve to use your best judgement!

heres a hint- like trintrin said....DONT BOTHER buying ALL the instruments they ahve listed, it will cost you literally $3000 ....just use what you have and take your OWN TYPODONT and instruments. USC will NOT give you anything.

Hope all this helps!

Hey toothfairy
Thanks so much for an elaborate explanation.Could you also please give example to what a case scenario question looks like?
Thanks in advance.

i heard that duggans is not only expensive but actually they do not allow one to practice in the class time. if you want to practice that will be additional class with additional money to pay.

This is absolutely NOT true. I recently took Dr. Duggan's class and had wonderful experience. He gave the brief introduction at the beginning of each class. Then he demonstrated each prep before I started my own. He always checked every step of preps and pointed out my mistakes. Every time I had any question, he was available to show me the answer. His office was relocated to another location which has bigger space and nicer arrangement. The two office people are very nice and were willing to help me. After all, I learned a lot from his class. I think I made wise investment by taking his course.
