Can anyone attending Keck comment on the school's curriculum regarding the allotment of of time to pursure individual interests?

Do they really make things flexible enough for students to pursue something like research or is this just a rumor?

During first year you might be a little busy with classes and trying to adjust to med school life, so it might be a little harder. However, there is the summer to pursue research (and the school encourages it). Second year is sculpted specifically so that you can pursue a research interest - most classes end at 12 every day, and you are required to complete a project (it can be anything from community service to research - about half do some time of basic/science clinical research) in order to pass to third year.

So yes, there is plenty of time to do research -- plus you can always take a year off to do some research (they are very accomodating) either with USC or with the Howard Hughes/NIH program or something of that sort.

Awesome, thanks for the reply!
