Hey I have a quick question about USC. I know you have to have taken Biochem and Molecular Bio to go there, and I definitely haven't taken them and don't plan on taking them unless I am accepted at USC. Then I would take them during the summer or during the next year if I were to defer. I interviewed at USC in January. Because I haven't taken those classes, would that somehow delay them sending a reply about whether I was accepted, waitlisted, or rejected because they are waiting for this information? Or is this just wishful thinking, and I should just accept the fact that I'm going to get booted. I'd just like to see what everyone else thinks. Later.

Wishfull thinking. Sorry 🙁

That's cool, I had to give it a shot though.

Jalby,
Do you know what the deal is with people who interviewed later receiving notification of either a waitlist or acceptance while other people who interviewed before have not received any notification? Is that basically a bad sign if you have not heard yet?

If anyone else know, that would be helpful also!
Thank You!!

ColdChillin-
actually the first year i stayed with never took biochemistry. she told them she would take it over the summer and just never bothered after being accepted. not advocating this, but all hope is not lost.

Hi, I'll be going to USC next fall (woohoo!) I interviewed on 12/3 and was accepted on 12/10 (yeah, I know, craziness!). Seeing as I got absolutely no love from UC's (no interviews even) even though I'm a cali resident with a 3.8 Berkeley GPA and a 32Q MCAT, I feel very lucky to be staying in CA! I'm thinking about coming to that new student reception too, so maybe I'll see some fellow SDN folks! Good luck to all!

I'll def be at the reception - see you guys there!!! 🙂

Congrats SaraMac!!
It sounds like I had the exact same experience as you. I had similiar numbers from UCSD but not a single interview from a UC (they suck). Anyway, I am so excited about being a Trojan and maybe I'll meet you at the second look.

I haven't taken it, was not asked about it, and don't plan on taking it. 🙂

Congrats Sara Mac. Right now it looks like there are a lot of SDNer's in next years class.

I would guess that if you interviewed a while ago, and don't know anything yet, you are waitlisted or rejected (prolly waitlisted) I did just have a friend get in a week ago who interview in october, so there still is hope for an outright acceptance. But if memory serves me, the class was filled at this time last year. 🙁

I interviewed 2/25 and received my acceptance in the mail today. It was dated March 14. I'm moving in a week but I'll be flying back for the student reception. As for what did I think---I actually was very impressed with the school. I almost turned down the interview, but when I researched the school, I was impressed with what I read--the county hospital, etc. I went in with an open mind. After interviewing there, I ended up really liking the school and the students and was hoping for an acceptance. To be honest though, I'm still considering two other schools.

i'll be there for the free lunch.. 😀

i will be there!!!

Congrats jrobbieUCD!!
I was in the same boat as you, didn't think I'd like it till I was there. I am still waiting, however, and since I interviewed b/f you on 2/4, I am hoping that Jalby's waitlist/rejection prediction is wrong. We shall see. I don't know if I can handle more waitlists.

Anyone know anything about this "April" quote the admin office keeps pushing? I called, and they basically responded "april" to all my questions.

i called today and they said they're still inviting for interviews, and if you haven't heard from them yet, you'll hear either way in the next few weeks...

dismal...

Thanks AZN-Trojan...that helps to know a time line.

Guess I will be waiting for that special day in april (or not so special if they reject me). You know, everyone keeps saying that 2/3 of all people interviewed at USC are accepted. That is supposed to make me feel better, but I keep thinking..damn how crappy would I feel to not get accepted with that stat in my face. Ah well, I guess someone has to get rejected. Please just don't let it be me (or shamthis...he/she really likes the school, too.)

I never got that E-mail. I've wanted to do interviews forever.

don't worry.. lot of our students get taken off the waitlist.. heck.. i was one of the last ones into the class of 2005.. i picked up my acceptance when they were having their welcome bbq.. which was 1 week before class started..

I interviewed on November 22 and have yet to hear back from them. I'm hoping this doesn't equal a rejection! I just wish they'd tell me I'm on the waitlist if that's what this state of suspension means!

Thanks Trojan! You keep my hopes up. So, out of curiosity, were you planning to go someplace else, and changed your mind at the last minute when you were accepted? I am worried about these waitlist's...I am on one at UCLA--and as time passes it seems like that is what will come from USC. I just don't know how people pick up and make a life changing decision in like 2 days?!? Did you already live in the area or did you have to relocate?

BTW, sorry that these questions are totally off the USC subject...but they are good things to know--

i only applied to a few schools and most schools i applied to rejected my butt.. although i did have a backup.. 'sc was my number 1 choice from the get go... i interviewed the 2nd week of interviews (sept 15th, 2000).. and had to wait 10 months before getting accepted (june 15th, 2001)

oh yeah.. i didn't have to move since (with the exception of college) i've been living in south pasadena since 6th grade..

as for ucla.. i have friends over there.. and they seem to hate the curriculum.. however.. westwood is definitely pretty nice.. and you really can't beat uc tuition.. however.. the cost of being a lifelong trojan is well worth the cost..

I lived with a UCLA MD/PHD last year and he and all of his friends say they absolutely get screwed by the curriculum. That being said, there are a ton of advantages at UCLA (first and formost being cost)

Yes, I got that idea, too, from most of the students. They say the curr. is not so good. But at least next year they are going to move towards a keck-like, organ based system. As you guys fully understand, it is hard to be the lab rat, I know that any change in their curriculum will be a positive one.

In reality if $ were no factor, I would rather go to USC that UCLA...but money is a always a factor, so there you go. If I got a fat scholy to USC, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment. But seeing as I have yet to be accepted, I assume much of their assistance has already been handed out.
Bottom line, I will pay what it takes to get through, no matter what the school, and what the bill. It's as good an investment as buying a house, ect...which will be my secondary option if I don't get in.
