I have already taken microeconomics through an online course at a local community college and will have a bachelors from a top 20 university. From the transcript, and from the syllabus, the course looks identical to their classroom-based course. Will USC actually ask if it was taken online?

That sounds like my exact situation, I'm definitely wondering about that too. Anyone know?

okay i am currently taking an online econ course for usc. i wasn't even worried whether it counted or not (because i thought there was no reason why it wouldn't). but coming across this topic made me a little nervous, i called usc, and they do NOT take online courses. you can call them to make sure as well, but again, they say they do NOT take online courses. so i'm in the process of finding another econ class to take this summer

how do they know that it's an online class or not?? also can someone paste that information here that state: NO ONLINE CLASS is acceptable

but what about the equivalencies?? maybe you asked a general question about an online class. where you specific about your situation?

Do you accept On-line/distance-learning courses?
No. We do not accept distance-learning or on-line coursework.

Taken from the USC FAQs page. http://www.usc.edu/schools/pharmacy/pharmd/admission/faqs.html

It's possible that they won't be able to tell that it was an online course.. which is what I'm hoping.

I have as much at stake as you, so you can be sure I was very specific with my question. I am not taking the risk that they cannot decipher the class was online from the transcript. You should definitely speak with them yourself though. Just giving you a heads up because this topic definitely saved me from a huge screwup.

Any current USC students have any input?

My understanding is that they don't take online courses as well. As for how they know, it's not terribly important, and I don't have specifics, but I guarantee if your college has an online course catalog on its website and you give the course # that you can look up that course # and find out whether or not it's class-based or online. Whether or not it says so on the transcript.
