USC Pharmacy School

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
But research experience? Pharmacy experience? Extraordinary talent? Lol haha

Dude, don't worry about what stats the other guy has. Trust me, it won't do you ANY good. I know it sucks being left in the dark and, yes, your future is largely dependent on where you go to school. But obsessing over the unknown is just not healthy. I should know, I was doing it since October until I recently got my acceptances. You already know your stats, you already know your chances. Asking other people what they did or what their GPA was is going to just put more stress on yourself. Furthermore, SDN comprises only a small percentage of total applicants. When you combine this with the adcoms' sometimes "arbitrary" methods of selection, it becomes even more apparent that comparing stats is not going to get you anywhere. So just relax, I'm sure someone as up to date on admissions to USC has done their research and has subsequently done what it takes to get in to the school. It's just a waiting game now =) Good luck dude.

@supfoo

I can't help but reply before I go to bed. I know I'm anxious but I just want to know where I stand as a candidate. USC is one of those schools that doesn't clearly lay out a criteria for their admission... so that's the source of my anxiety. The people I've talked to in real life and got into USC have some kind of special talent or stellar achievements.

Anyway, I'm mostly focusing on volunteering and pharmacy work to keep my mind off the waiting game.

Again, thanks for your kind words! And I'll try to calm the pipe down >_<

-Eager young pre-pharmacy applicant 🙂

Jan 26 Interview, session 5, and no news yet...

Greetings.

I was at the Jan interview as a P1. Just dropped by to see how you guys are doing.

Anyways, just to mention some things. I have friends who have ridiculously high GPAs and no extracurricular activities, experience, "talent" or even social skills for the matter. And they got in. I have friends who have low GPAs (not ridiculously low, but below average) and have awesome backgrounds and they got in. I'm not saying this is how they choose applicants, I'm just saying don't sell yourself short just yet... I'm don't want to sugarcoat things but this is how it is.

That being said, it's not the end of the world yet if you get an AC lol. Realistically, you still have a chance til maybe late May to early June. At least, that's how it was last year. A couple people (very small) still got in afterwards, but I would say the majority is in by late May/early June.

so what does the AC email look like? does it just say you're on AC? Today I got an email saying that all my prereqs are complete and when I may get an interview. But I already had an interview. does this mean I'm on AC?

the subject says usc active consideration letter... I'm still waiting too. I called them today and they said they are still making decisions.

yeah my friend called them as well. According to her, they are still making final decisions which means that there could possibly be more acceptances. Good luck to all those who are still waiting!

by the way, there weren't just acceptances yesterday..there were rejections as well. I guess that puts to rest the myth that usc only rejects after all the interviews are finished. For those that haven't heard back yet, that is a good sign!!

wow rejections? that sucks 🙁

Yup. According the the admissions rep, they rejected all the people they didn't want and accepted all those they wanted. There's still a handful of people they are making final decisions about which is why some people haven't heard back. I personally doubt that any of these people who are waiting to hear back will get rejected because they would have been rejected already. I'm guessing that these people will either get accepted or be put on active consideration, which is why it's not necessarily a bad thing to have not heard back.

woah O_O

I really thought they didn't reject anyone until the end. hopefully we hear back today!

Hi! I have a question unrelated to admissions. What can you tell me about the PharmD/PhD program? Do you have any idea how long it takes (on average) and about any sort of tuition remission or stipends that come along with the program? I'm interested in neuropharmacology as a research topic =) Thank you!!!!!

Am I the only one refreshing my email like every 2 seconds?

AHHHH I got in!!! I am in complete shock right now. Congrats to everyone who received an acceptance also 🙂

is there any where to get in touch with current students to ask them about the program?

Just want to check on everyone 😳 Congratz to those accepted!

WHAT?! Rejections? is it for those interviewed or yet to be interviewed?

Anyway, Good luck!

anybody else tired of waiting??? -_-

I am beyond tired of waiting. I really hope they let us know today!

actually i called today and the person said we would find out sometime next week. I'm thinking they mailed out a whole bunch of rejection letters and mine is sitting in the post office somewhere. 🙁

Are you serious? I called yesterday and they said we would hear back by tomorrow.

haha maybe they just wanted to buy more time

That's possible. First they said 2-3 weeks. Then they said 3-4 weeks. Now it looks like it may be 4-5 weeks. lol. I feel like the other schools I applied to were way more efficient. This is getting ridiculous.

Oh damn that's a long time! I interviewed in January. But at least you heard that you're on AC. I haven't heard a peep.

Yea i got put on AC in November... now i'm just waiting to see if they've changed their minds.

Man i wish USC will keep their promises. I mean I'd understand if they had one delay but they keep delaying and keep telling people different answers. Sometimes they say we'll hear back in a week and then other times they say it'll be another 2 weeks. Can we have a definite answer??

Agreed. I feel like since USC is one of the top pharm schools, their ego might be kind of high and thus they feel less pressured to be more efficient and keep promises. I agree with something some one else mentioned on this thread: USC should have just accepted everyone at the same time. That way other applicants would have an idea as to whether they will be rejected or on AC. Are you still waiting from the January interview or are you from the October interview?

I'm getting frustrated, too. Especially when, in the interview orientation, the speaker kept emphasizing: "Two to... how many weeks?" And we all responded in unison, "three!" And again, "Two to how many?" Chorus: "THREE!!"

I almost want to call them and ask,"We've now been waiting three to... how many weeks?"

From a PR perspective, UCSF/UCSD do it right. They give you a date soo far in advance (April 1st) that it gives them plenty of time to go through all the applicants, so when you hear back well before then, it makes them look good. For a school as image-conscious as USC, I would have thought they knew that.

LOL I remember the speaker emphasizing 2-3 weeks. You're totally right. Are you also waiting to hear back from the January interview? I wonder what final decisions they are making that this is taking so long. My theory: All the applicants they are reviewing now have either done really good on the interview or really good on the essay (but not both). So that's probably why they are on the fence. (Let's face it, all those who did bad on both parts probably have been rejected already. And all those who did amazing on both parts have gotten accepted) All applicants have good stats for the most part, given that they were granted an interview. So I'm guessing that the interview/written portion is what it's boiling down to.

For those that are waiting--how do you think you did on your interview? My student interviewer led the interview and he was acting 'skeptical' to all my answers...I don't know if he was just acting the part or what though...lol. My faculty interviewer was very quiet..I only remember him asking me like 2 questions.

so the wait for me particularly sucks more because my faculty interview told me that i was in.. flat out. The student felt the same way. so after my interview in Oct i was really excited and I started looking up housing and everything. then i got an AC letter and I wonder why that professor gave me false hope. I've lost a lot of respect for USC over this matter. Thats why part of me would just rather be rejected than placed on AC again. Then i can just move on and focus on other schools.

Yeah, I'm from the January interview, too. I don't think I did that great on either the interview or the essay, though, but I think I did ok. That's probably why they're on the fence with me. I'm hoping that they'll either accept or put on active consideration everyone else still waiting :xf:

I thought my interview went pretty well. The essay was alright but not my best. How did you do on the essay?

Given that the admission people are on the fence, I doubt they would reject you. I'm pretty sure you will either get accepted or be put on active consideration. If they wanted to reject you, they would have already.

This is the problem with rolling admissions. They have to save spots for the later interviewers, so the waitlist (or, "active consideration") will inevitably be long, because they don't know the caliber of students they'll get later. It does suck to be told that and then get AC. I feel for you 🙁

I think I did well on the essay--gave a lot of reasoning behind my conclusions..I think I wrote 2 full pages.

I wonder how many people from the January interview are still waiting to hear back? I think they said they interviewed around 120. Anybody have an idea as to how many people are waiting to hear back?

Is there a Facebook page for class of 2017?
