I only have like 36 out of 45 quarter units I need to fulfill their requirement. Does anyone know if I can apply 198 credits from the humanities to fulfill the requirement (even if the actual research had nothing to do with the humanities)?

Also I came upon this post:

Has anyone else been able to weasel their way out of the requirement like that? 12 classes for 1 school is kind of a lot...

My avatar perfectly describes this thread right now 🙁

I wanted to help you. I really did. I am probably attending Keck next year! But your questions aren't making sense to me. I'm not a supergenius or anything, so please try again and let's see what we can work out.

i didnt go to USC, but you are never alone. come, let us go.

TS you are weird. Though I think I might have told you this before in chat.

In all seriousness though I am interested in the answer to this question. Since I changed my major I have been taking very few non-science classes so unless I decide to prance around in a bunch of humanities classes next year I doubt I will meet this requirement. That being said I do have like 15+ Epi 199 credits(research credits for Epi Research) that I guess are not BCPM so maybe they could count?

They have a requirement on their website that you need to take 30 semester hours of humanities. That equals 45 quarter units, or about 12 quarter classes (which I wouldn't have to take otherwise). I took 198 classes (course name for research credit) in the humanities, and I was wondering if it counted.

I'm actually just going to call tomorrow and ask what the deal is. If anyone is interested I'll make sure to update it 🙂

Ohh "198 classes" is referring to the course number. Must be specific to your school.

So if you need 12 quarter units, is that 4 courses? Are you done with all of your general distribution requirements? And there's a good possibility the research coursework will qualify, since it involved critical thought and writing I assume.

Don't forget you don't need the classes before you apply. I still need one more course and I would take it in June before class starts in August (assuming financial aid at USC pans out for the best). Maybe you could take a few classes for personal interest that qualify, and then if you wanted to matriculate bust one or two more the final semester or over summer.

I'm Keck-bound this fall, and my understanding is that you can negotiate to get pretty any non-BCPM class to count as a humanities course. Languages count, and to the poster that switched majors, it's likely that many of the courses you took before switching will count as well.

Yeah calling should definitely help.. I called a few months back and they were really helpful and answered all my questions in detail. They also mentioned that community college courses are okay for those requirements, but not online courses. Hopefully you already have them fulfilled though like Daisy mentioned.

So I just called and they said neither my engineering classes nor my research credits count :/

I guess I'll just have to cram some in my last year?
