I got accepted to both. FIU would be cheaper because I would save on living expenses but USF has a more established program. ????

I would go wherever you think you'd be happiest. Think about the location, curriculum, atmosphere of the school. Depends what you think would be best for you over the next four years.

Do you think that FIU being a first year school would matter to residency directors?

I had the same dilemma. TCMC vs. UIC/UVM...TCMC = 15k/year, UIV/UVM = 70k per year I went with the 70. TCMC is a little more tricky though since its a stand alone school, and I can't apply for the Public Health Scholarship and can't get federal loans 🙁. Good school though. Hope I don't regret my decision.

I think it would be very exciting to be part of a new med school! My father was actually one of the first classes to begin at USF medical school and he said it was amazing being with a school so early on...
With the economy the way it is ....money should be a factor in everyone's decision.

Depends on how much cheaper.

If it's not much then I'd say USF.

FIU, Miami and living at home FTW!!!

USF is also near Miami and established. USF.

Yeah, it's about 3 hours from Miami. That's not too far, but it's also not the same as living right there in Miami. Neither school is a national power house med school wise so a degree from either will hold the same weight. I'd go with FIU.

Having interviewed at both schools I would definitely go with USF. While I was impressed with FIU's goals and plans for the future, and I know USF is not a national power house med school, I still think something has to be said for going to a med school that has been established for 35+ years as opposed to 0 years. Also, outside of one floor, FIU didn't really have any sort of medical campus when I interviewed they just took us around the undergrad campus. However, I'm thinking since I interviewed last october they probably have some new facilities up/under construction by now?

If cost was about equal I would say USF. But, reasonably, money does make a difference.

Also, the clinical opportunities at USF are pretty high up there with Moffit Cancer Center and Tampa General Hospital. Being in a big city, I'm sure FIU has some affiliated hospitals lined up, does anyone know?
