Using LOR from an away rotation

What is the new, updated consensus on using LORs obtained from away programs? Would it be a red flag to other programs that you are most interested in that particular institution? Is it advised NOT to send that LOR to all programs?

It's actually assumed that if you bothered to do an away, you did so to get a LOR from it. Not having one may be a red flag but that is specialty specific. In IM (and I assume FM, Peds, Psych), it's pretty irrelevant. In EM, Ortho, Uro, it's expected. Other specialties are likely intermediate.
