I am applying to both MD and DO schools. I do not really mind which ever one I get into because either way I will become a doctor if I make it through and that is my primary goal. But the AMCAS PS has to be a maximum of 5300 Characters while the AACOMAS PS is 4500 characters. Now my personal statement for MD highlights events and reason why I want to become a DOCTOR, not anything to do with MD/DO. So for the DO Personal Statement I was wondering if I could cut out the most unnecessary details from my MD PS and just use that. It will be the same, just a bit shorter to meet the character limits.

Or do i have to write something that specifically relates to osteopathic medicine now?

Use your personal statement; just edit it to meet the AACOMAS character requirement. Your personal statement should address exactly what you mentioned -- the reason(s) why you want to be a physician and other highlights (that's what I did and it turned out fine).

The only times where you may, or may not, have to address the "why osteopathic medicine?" or "why DO?" questions will be in secondaries, and in interviews.

Good luck!!! 🙂

Thank goodness haha I didn't wanna go through the whole personal statement and re-editing drafts all over again. thanks!

A lot of people choose to write "why DO" in later prompts. I included "why DO" in my PS, but I just feel like it is personal preference. I don't think it will hinder you if you don't.

Look, we know you guys do that, and simply paste in the following two words"...and that's why I want to be an osteopathic physician".

serious question. How does that make do adcoms feel?

My personal philosophy is that your motivations should be identical regardless of whether you want to be a allopathic or osteopathic physician, which is why I used the exact same personal statement for both applications. As has already been mentioned most DO schools have a secondary on why DO, which is where I plan to expand on how I am interested in integrating OMM into one of my specialties of choice (neuro).

Forces me to ask you "Why DO?" at interviews, when I'd rather be asking you something else.

Just do not leave in "and that's why I'd like to attend CCOM" when you're applying to a different school. I've seen this more often that you'd think!

Hmmm....I was asked this question at all my interviews.

Interesting
