I have not looked in to it but is anyone in the military going through dental school?

or if so do they pay for dental school?
and can you be a dentist for military for your term?

Are you currently in the military?

If not, and you are accepted to dental school, then yes you can join the military and they will pay for your tuition and provide a monthly stipend. In return you owe the branch you joined (Air Force, Army, or Navy) 4 years of active duty as a dentist and 4 years of inactive reserve. Although if you wanted to stay in for your whole career (up to 30 years of active duty time) then you certainly could.

I remember there was someone this cycle who is active duty military and got accepted into USC (I think?) but he was having issues being released from duty to attend dental school... does anyone know what happened with him?

Thats me. I am currently an aviator in the Army. I've been accepted to USC MWU and UT Houston, but the aviation branch is not letting me go. I'm still under obligation to serve three more years to pay back for my flight school training, however, the army needs dentists so bad I figured they might consider transfering me to fill the greater need. Its even gone up to the commander of HRC and he said no. The dental corps has been great and is going to keep trying to sway HRC, but I fear I may have to wait to go to dental school. Its sad too, because if I have to finish my obligation, I'm going to either go through the Air Force or go to a texas school and pay for it myself. Hopefully the dental corps will be able to convince them that its in the Army's best interest to let me go to dental school in the long run. We'll see.
