hey guys......just wanted to enquire whether coming to the US will be easier for an IMG by doing GRE and doing n MPH course or via the USMLE n doing residency....

is there any truth in what some say that after completing the MPH course it is easier to get a residency in the US as one can give the USMLE after doing MPH in the US itself.....
but isnt that a waste of what almost 2 years.......

kindly post your opinions..

Any education in the USA will definately help you. If you are willing to spend the 2 years it will be better. you will also have 2 years to get contacts in hospitals and research hospitals as well. I recommend this path...in the long run it may be beneficial to you.

There is no evidence that getting an MPH in the US will help you get into a US residency program. After all, the MPH is not nearly as clinical and if you aren't really interested in the degree, the decision to get one will be frowned upon.

If your goal is to get into a US residency program, your best bet, at least for the first time, is the most straight-forward. Take the USMLEs, get your ECFMG certificate and apply for US residencies.

You are right - the longer you are away from medical school and the practice of medicine, the harder it will be to get back in.

im going d gre route as visas r more difficult to get for just an exam or interviews (B1, that is)
