Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

Step 1 – >260
Step 2- >260
WORLD – 81%, finished ~75%, everything unused, random and timed
NBME 3 – 237 (with 1.5wks studying)
NBME 4 – 268 (with 3 weeks of studying)
NBME subject exam – 76 in surgery (first shelf), everything else in 90s, did not do IM shelf.

Study plan:
- Studied for 3wks dedicated time + 1.5wks of studying off and on ~4hrs/day.
- Meat of source for studying was WORLD – started doing 44Q/day then worked up to 70Q/day. I spent most of my time going over every question, regardless of whether I had it right or wrong and looked up things I did not know (pocket medicine, wikipedia (!!), random 3rd yr lectures (rarely))
- I had grand plans for using all kinds of review books and reading FA along with doing WORLD but ended up not having time…
- With about 1 week left I started going over the FA like mad and did 44Q/day. Ended up going over most of the FA but did not get to 3 or 4 sections.

During 3rd yr I read review books to prepare for wards and shelves. In the end, I think this is what helped me prepare for step 2!!

Thanks to everyone for posting! This forum really helped answer a lot of my questions 👍👍

Took the test 8/12, got mine today! I was really hoping to not get it back so I could play the update game with my ERAS, but as it turned it out, I was okay.

Step 1: 230/96
Step 2: 256/99!!
COMLEX1: 635
COMLEX2: Pending

Took 4 weeks off to study...UWORLD (an absolute must) 64%avg and SUTM were the most helpful. NBME 4 2 weeks prior predicted 240-something. I am thrilled!

Are you sure , I took on 8/11 -no results today.

UWorld 80's cumulative, random and timed. 100% completed.
UW simtest:800 5 days out

Real Deal: 250's

I seriously believe they ****ed up my test somehow. I had the test crash twice and they shifted me to another computer. I don't know, is there any way to go about checking this out?

I have a question about this....

I received my CK score yesterday at 10am and my USMLE transcript was delivered to the ERAS post office at 330pm.

I WANT my score displayed to programs, so I hit the "retransmit" option as soon as I got it.

Should I believe that my CK score will be displayed on my transcript or should I do the retransmit thing one more time? It is very important that this score is on the transcript.

thanks

as being written so many times, the question are LONG!!!
had a lot of Immunology questions, even more Rheumatology (to much!), and also Respiratory was heavily questioned...
Not as much as statistics as ppl prepared me to, and most of it was straight forward.
about 5 multimedia q's, simple cardiac auscultation.

I'm an IMG, studied for 2 months, mostly UW, some Kaplan lectures, and MTB.
Had FA but it's simply not good...
UW mixed, timed, finished the Q-bank with 67%
NBME 2, 5 weeks before D-day: 224 (Palpitations & Insomnia for a week)
UWSA, 3 weeks before D-day: 245 (a bit better)
NBME 4, 5 days before D-day: 236 (had a bad day so felt more or less ok)

Well wasn't on the top of my game today, did a lot of mistakes and wasn't concentrated , but nothing to do now expect wait for Oct. 6th

good luck to everybody with the Match!

This thread has been very helpful for me over the last few months. So hopefully I can contribute something. I recently took CK and here is my take on it.

I used UWorld and Kaplan notes during my 3rd year rotations and then finished all of IM questions on my last 3rd year rotation. Then I reset UWORLD and started all over again 3 weeks prior to the test. I got 75% done the second time around. First time I did UWorld, It was by subject, tutorial, un-timed. It was more a source of learning for me during my rotations. It worked well for preparing for the end of rotation shelf exams. 2nd time around I did random, timed, per subject. The first time, I put notes in FA. I did not take notes the second time around. I did not read FA during the 3 weeks of prep. I read a bit of it during my rotations. But it was too long and boring to read it all. Also the day before the test, I read over notes I put in FA. BY FAR, UWorld made me feel very comfortable taking the test. Again this doesn't mean I did amazing.. it just means I was comfortable with the questions.

I thought it was very similar to UWorld (no surprise there). My questions where about the same length as UWorld not longer. I think the questions where fair. I had lots of OBGYN and PEDS on my test. I was surprised at the number of OBGYN. G3P2.... I was like come on already. I had some biostats questions, but nothing too amazing. I was surprised at the preventative medicine questions... "what screening is needed for this pt?" Surgery and psych were straight forward. That doesn't mean I got them right!!! With this test no one really knows how they did till the scores are out. You think fast and put whatever you think is the right answer. Rely of your instincts half the time.

During the test, I did the orientation block in 3-5 min and banked the rest of the time towards the break. --> 1 block (ice breaker) --> 5 min break --> 2 blocks --> 5 min break --> 2 blocks (things were getting blurry now) --> 10 min break w/ sandwich and walk --> 1 block (by now I was wishing things were over already) --> 5 min break --> 1 block --> 5 min break (POP to wake me up) --> final 1 block --> survey as a cooling off period (2min). I took chocolate with me and had that during the 5 min break. Just for energy.

Here is hoping for OCT.6th.

PS. UWorld score ranged from 62 to 75% correct depending on the subject.
I did not do any practice tests. I did not think it is worth wasting money on these. Especially after doing UWorld day and night. I got sore shoulder in my mouse dominant arm.

Kinda laying it on thick, don't you think?

First of all I don't really feel sorry for you with a score like that. Two things you should consider (1) UW isn't supposed to be a predictor of your actual score *it actually says it when you log in* and if you were going to use any sort of practice test to predict your score it seems that the NBME exams people pay for are better predictors anyways as the UW practice tests tend to overpredict. (2) Even if UW tends to predict a lot of peoples' scores on here relatively well there comes a point that you shouldn't expect to fit on the "trendline" with everyone else when you're scoring 3 standard deviations above the mean.

I am confused about the scoring of the nbme mini exams. I did form 4 last week and got a 260; but that seems to correlate to failing. How can a 231 be such a good score? Am I completely not reading the scoresheet correctly for this exam?

260 on NBME is out of 800. It correlates to something bellow 160.
If you are getting 260 on NBME be very careful and definitely dont take the exam anytime soon, it means you are not ready. Hope that helps.

Always wondered why everyone is getting 3 standard deviations above the mean? or perhaps only people who score that high are willing to share their scores?
I learned the only thing that matters is to study your best, take an assessment exam to see where you stand and take the exam when you are comfortable with it. There is nothing that is going to guarantee you that you are even going to pass. I studied hard, did relatively well on NBME and usmleworld and almost failed the exam. Unfortunately, that is all Residency programs and everyone else will judge you by. Your usmleworld percentages and nbmes are meaningless, it is all about performing well on the big day. That is life, one must always look forward.

step 1 - 247/99

nbme #2 (early on) - 209
uworld - 70%
kaplan qbank - 68%
uworld assessment - 229
nbme #4 (1 week out) - 245
free 150 - 245

step 2 - 252/99

caught a few typos but was a clean test otherwise. walking out of step1 i wanted to vomit but after this i felt really serene and peaceful :luck:

How did you like Kaplan qbank? I was thinking of using both also but was not sure if repeating world was better. Did you use one during clerkships or go through the entire thing during your study period?

USMLEworld: 77% (did 60% of all the questions)
Step 2: 271/99😀
Step 1: 251 (did Kaplan and averaged 78%)

For step 2 I only read first aid and did USMLEworld. I think I was helped because I really studied for all my M3 shelf exams and spent about 10 hours every weekend for 4 months studying for step 2 during the last months of my M3 year. I took step 2 one month into M4 year, I didn't take time off to study because I wanted my scores back early.
Good luck everyone!

did both during clerkships and thought they were equally important. uworld first, qbank, and then a 2nd speed pass thru uworld in 5-6 days.

only took the week prior to my exam off and that was mostly to catch up on sleep and mentally prepare myself (which imo is more important than actually studying)

Originally was set to take CK 6/28, but had to reschedule because I ended up doing an externship in June. Was set to take it end of July, but ended up dong a sub-I that month. Went against my better judgement (and Step 1 mess) and took it 8/11, giving myself 10 days to study. Used FA and UWorld.

Read FA once. Did ~80% of UWorld, got about 70% on random, timed tutor mode.

Step 1 - 221/91 (used UsmleRX; def won't make that mistake again; had some test site irregularities; even tried a rescore; basically way less than I was expecting)

Step 2 - 243/99. Still not stellar like I would have liked, but more in line with expectations.

Got my score 9/1, about 10 mins after submitting ERAS (!), so resent my USMLE transcript to get that 99 in before interviews.
Good luck everyone!

Well, my pre-study NBME 4 was a 710, kinda see the pattern here?
UW practice tests for step 1 do overpredict not the one for step 2, it underpredicts.

NBME says the same about their practice exams too but what we have seen is, it very accurately predicts the final score.
Even if UW tends to predict a lot of peoples' scores on here relatively well there comes a point that you shouldn't expect to fit on the "trendline" with everyone else when you're scoring 3 standard deviations above the mean.
That is my point and I haven't seen such a drastic fall in scores for anybody and we have quite a number of experiences here in the forum. Further, more I can count the number of questions, I had no idea about on one hand. Maybe, I was drunk and inebriated when I took the test, cause that's the only explanation I can think of.

anyone get an email saying that scores would be posted? or is this extended results schedule affecting everyone?

At this point 3 weeks ago was after the Aug 12 deadline. So there shouldn't be any scores from now until October 6th. All the scores right now are being collected so they can renormalize the curve of the scores.

Any chance this would work for/against how future ck exams are "graded"? Like, if more people are doing well, would it move the curve downward and make it more difficult to score well?

There isn't a specific reason why this should happen....just the thoughts that come up when I should be studying instead. 😎

So I did good and above average on step 1 using Uworld so I decided to use it for step 2... I did most of the question bank throughout third year while studying for shelf exams. Then a friend of mine who took step 2 before me told me I should just use Uworld and skip first aid and stuff...

I did the entire Qbank again (second time), and for topics I noticed I STILL wasn't getting I used first aid. I really used first aid very little. And my Uworld percentage was 55th %tile. NBME exam 4 days beforehand was 231 (not thrilled about this).

Actual score received today: 25😀

Needless to say I am VERY happy, in fact I was tachycardic when I read the score lol. So I would highly recommend the approach outlined here, it has worked extremely well for both my friend and I. I had some other friends use things like DIT and first aid reading, but they ended up disappointed. Good luck everyone else!

That's obviously not true, I got mine today and I took the exam 8/19...

Witch Doctor,
Damn you for giving me mild palpitations as I took it on 8/16 and alas, no score. Unless there is a website you are looking on? My medical school has not received any scores yet.

I'm fairly certain you're lying since a few buddies and I took it very close to your test date and we didn't get our scores today.

Well sorry to say I'm not! 🙂

Your USMLE Step 2 CK SCORE REPORT will be available later this morning on the NBME Licensing Examination Services (NLES) website. The release of scores is typically scheduled around 11:00 am Eastern Time, but it may be necessary, on occasion, to depart from this schedule due to larger-than-normal examinee volume, technical problems, or other circumstances. Also, examinees should note that they may experience some delays in accessing their results, depending upon the level of server traffic on reporting day.

I thought the delay applies to most testing centers and not all. I don't see why the above poster have to benefit of saying s/he got the score if they didn't. Other than being a troll.

I apologize for calling you a liar, I was mistakenly under the impression that all scores would be delayed. USMLE...WTF! You only need to delay 90% (or whatever) of examinees scores in order to normalize scores? Why aren't they delaying everyone....grrrr

Has everyone that has recently received their scores (that took the exam after august 12) got it back 4 wednesdays after their exam? I'm probably in the october 6 group- but I guess I still have a miniscule chance my score will be released next wednesday (4 weeks).

bluntdissector's formula predicts my score to be 267
medfriends predicts it to be 270 +/- 11 based on the last 300 ?s of UW
medfriends predicts it to be 280 +/- 12 based on my NBME
NBME 2 score report for my 800 predicts ">268"

If/when I get my score back on Oct 6th and I'm anywhere near those values I will feel sympathetic about your drop into the 250s.

I am getting consistently just below average on uworld; occasionally above average is isolated subjects I am good in. So if the average on a block of uworld is 55% and I got a 47%, what does that mean? I am trying to not let my dip into into the 40's bother me too much if the average is low too.

Don't worry as much about your uworld percentage, focus on learning from the mistakes you make on it. I never cared about the percentage, I just focused on not missing things TWICE. Mark things that you miss more than once and make sure you go back over them and really learn them. I did that with all those genetic conditions like Tay-Sachs/Hunters/Hurlers that you can mix up.

I can't figure out why everyone else isn't starting to get their scores?? So far I know of five people that got theirs, but where are everyone elses? Hopefully they will get it together and release them already...

anybody think any results will be coming out tomorrow? or will we all be waiting for october 6th 🙁

Silly me is hoping some scores will be released tomorrow (took CK the week of8/16) but I honestly think it'll be 10/6... We'll see!!!

I know it's wishful thinking, but I'm also hoping for a score release tomorrow. My step 1 release email was sent around 7:30 AM central time; is that around the time you guys have been getting the step 2 email? :scared:

I am scheduled to take the quiz on Sat 9/25, but I think I'm gonna move it up to Thurs 9/23. Either way, when should I have my score report back? Thanks...

Took the exam yesterday. It was relatively straightforward and about what I expected after doing USMLE World except I'd say on average the question stems were slightly longer on the real deal. For whatever reason the thing I remember most was that it seemed like everyone's age ended in a "7" (37, 47, 57, 67, etc) which I thought was kinda weird. I read Step Up to Medicine, all the non-medicine chapters of First Aid, Secrets, and did USMLE world ~1.5x. My overall average after finishing UW once was 75%. I took NBME 2 a week ago from today and got an 800, although I don't feel like my performance yesterday is going to match that haha. Shelf exams throughout 3rd year ranged from 81 to 94. Since I took it yesterday I'm not sure if my score will come out on October 6th but I will update this post when I find out.
