Probably been discussed before, but can't find a recent thread....

I'm just curious about what scores people were getting on USMLE World, and then how you ended up doing on Step 2.

All you have to do is post two numbers...... 🙂

Thanks folks, and good luck with everything!!

Well I will post, but I don't know how much it will help as "akomark" and I are quite similar in this regard.

Step 1: 249
Step 2: 260

Questions: Used USMLEworld, finished 88%, final average was 67% with 46q random sets.

Text: 1st AID for Step2 and Boards and Wards, reading about the subject of interest from one after the other for reinforcement. I studied for about 3 weeks while on light 4th year electives and always had B+W with me. Probably 4 hours a day total. The key, as mentioned before, is to work hard on the clerkships and study hard for the shelf exams.

Good Luck!

I just wanted to make a suggestion. I am taking boards in a couple of weeks and I was stuck in the high 50s range on UW. No matter what I read or what I studied I couldn't move past that point. The thing that changed that was reading the last sentence first. I really feel that has made a huge difference in how I approach the question. I would recommend trying it for three or four 46 question tests and see how it works for you. I moved from the 50s to the high 60s and 70s on UW within a week. No more panic when you get to the end of the question because you thought they were going to ask you the dx and they give you the dx and ask for something else. 👍 good luck

Maybe this has already been asked but, Which is more correct???

The website with the score correlations at medfriends.org

or the formula 2.3 x UW score + 84 that gives me a higher score... 🙂

For me, the formula was closer. Medfriends predicted 5 points low using the same number. From my last 350 questions, the formula was dead-on. Probably safe to split the difference.

Just wanted to add my experience.
Studied for 3.5 weeks about 7hrs a day. Went through FA almost twice except for the last 3 sections the second time. Read all of Secrets once. Did all UW and went over 1/4 of what I'd missed in my weaker subjects. And prayed before the exam like I always do before any exam. 🙂 First time average 62% on UW.

I did alot better third year than first and second on most of my clinical rotations. Scored above average on every shelf except medicine where I was in the 24th percentile and in peds where I scored a 96% after curve.

Step I - 210
Step II -242.

What I can say is that UW is excellent and if you can figure out the answers on that and read thru the explanation, it's very helpful. Plus use an outside source like FA and Secrets. It can be done people!!!!!!!😀😀

step 1 - 191

USMLE world step 2 (completed ~60%) - ~56%
kaplan qbank step 2 (completed ~66%) - ~61
NBME #1 - 201

step 2 CK- 226

👍

Ok so i got a 213/87 step I, 233/96 step II.

to study i used
step up to medicine
FA for step II
usmle world

I took the exam my first month of 4th year. I strategically placed my medicine block at the end of 3rd year so I was pretty fresh for taking the exam. I used stepup medicine for my medicine shelf, and used the same for step II. it was the bomb book.

I used FA for everything else because I hate all other specialties. I annotated all the stuff i got wrong on usmle world into FA, which was alot...espcially surgery!

I had 3.5 weeks to study for step II. I started off with 45% on UW, at the end i improved to about 60-65% . I took nbme form III and got a projected 220 4 days before the real exam. I did much better on the real thing.

I guess if your above 60% youll do fine on step II.
You can do it! PM me if you have and Q's.

Long time lurker here, recently registered and wanted to give some encouragement to those like me who have struggled to get above the 50th percentile on steps and shelf exams despite studing as hard or harder than my peers. Anyway, took CK on 7/26, got results on 8/22:

Step 2 CK: 232
UW: Did >90. Averaged 59%, all timed 46 question blocks. (Averaged in mid 60's during my last week of studies)
Step 1: 200

I took 4 weeks to study while doing a light rotation that required no more than 10 hours of class and outside work time combined per week (went over pathology of diseases and prepared case presentations). Read First Aid CK nearly twice, secrets and B&Ws once.

Good luck to everyone else!!

Step 1: 224/91
Step 2: 251/99

Studied about a month doing USMLEWORLD, averaging around 65% towards the end. I read boards and wards while doing questions and read Step Up to Medicine during my clerkships which was right before I took the exam. UW was the single best thing to prepare for step 2. Some of the biostatistics came straight from UW. Doing well on step 2 is much easier than step 1, especially coming from a DO school. I really feel like DO students aren't prepared for Step 1 for the simple reason that the curriculum doesn't emphasize concepts on the exam. However, the knowledge required to excel during clerkships are the same regardless of which school you go to. Just my two cents... Good luck to all!

Step 1: 225
Step 2: 250

Basically the key is to study hard during year 3. I honored about half of the shelf exams and came really freakin' close on the rest.

For review, I used Boards and Wards, Deja Review, Step Up to Medicine. I had my EM rotation before I took step 2, which I think helped a lot as well.

Also used USMLE World. Finished about 70%, overall average 67%.

Step 1: 231
Step 2: 216

I chose not to have my scores automatically uploaded. I did well throughout medical school. Just how will this affect my residency application??? I only wanted to pass this exam, but it still hurts.

I loved this thread when I was studying for CK, so I wanted to contribute my info. In case you're interested about score reporting time, I took my test on 9/28 and got my score by email on 10/17.

Step I: 248/99
Step II: 255/99

I studied for about 3 hours a day for 5 weeks (during which I did light rotations). I started off by reading straight through FA and then spent the rest of the time on UW, making sure I read through every answer carefully -- a 46q block usually took me about 2 hrs. I did 80% of the q's in untimed tutor mode and my average was 66%. As everyone has said before, I also studied hard during 3rd year and did pretty well on my shelf exams. Scheduling CK closer to 3rd year helped, I think.

Good luck to everyone!

I've been following this board since I started studying for my Step II. I took it at the end of September and would obsessivly check this site. I used USMLE World and Crush Step 2.

I would like to say that there is NO correlation between USMLE World and Step II score. I used it mainly for the questions and not as an assessment of my knowledge.

Studied: 1 month, weekends off
USMLE World did all 2200 questions
Crush Step 2
USMLE World Overall 55%
Step I: 210/85
Step II: 244/99 Boo yah! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

So for all those getting discouraged by your UW score, have no fear.🙂 Just try to learn from what you did wrong, and even review the questions you got correct. I found that using the tutor mode was most helpful and saved me time. PM me if you have any other questions. Good luck to those taking this monster! UW was the best thing I ever did to study for this thing! Some of the questions were so similar, it was scary.

well, i've been OCD about this thread the whole time i was studying and now i can finally add my scores!!

Step 1: 219/89

For Step 2, USMLEworld, finished 85%, with a 62% overall
Step 2: 246/99:clap::clap::wow::wow::clap::clap:

Ok, So I too spent waay too much time looking at this site when I was cramming for Step 2.

First Step 1: 219

I basically studied for 7 days for step2. I did all of World and ended up with a 62% average. My 6 last random blocks of questions were all above 70%. I read through Secrets once. I read through Crush once. I know they're written by the same author but the repitition helped me solidify concepts. I did all of the Kaplan Q book which I thought was a nice way to get the grouped question exposure. I did all of PreTest for Step2. I reviewed every question. I made stupid murmur diagrams because I had previously totally sucked at these and this for some reason paid off awesomely. I brewed and drank 10 bags of starbucks coffee. I did not answer my phone and I am not sure how much sleep I got. But I got to go on vacation during my block off and:

I got a 254 on Step 2😱

Good luck all. It isn't nearly as bad as Step1. Though the audiovisual clips are kinda annoying

Hi Guys,

First of all, it is a real inspiration to read the posts because I have been freaking out about my exam which i am taking in early november. I have read first aid, am reading boards and wards and also deja review. I am doing UW questions and have been getting a range of 47-71%. I average about 3-4 tests a day. Looking at my cum. performance it states that i only have 54% correct. Now, what are you guys using to correlate with the actual step 2 score? Should I track my progress using the 54% score or my 47-71% (with about 60-65% on the majority)?

Thanks!

So my 55% was my cumulative. I did all 2200 questions. Usually, I would get anywhere in the range of 50-75% on the test blocks, but overall, UW said I SUCKED big time.

But like I said before, I don't think its an accurate predictor of how you will do on the real exam especially if you are using it for studying and not as an assessment. UW was the only thing I studied, and I used Crush to take notes in on the UW questions. I didn't read Crush until 3 days before the exam, and then it was pretty hard to read because of all the coffee stains and the tiny handwriting.

So yeah, I was freakin out about my overall 55%. I calculated my supposed Step 2 from that silly formula, and calculated a score of 210.

Actual score 244/99.

Correlation between UW score and actual step 2 score: NADA!

Good luck with your studying. I read these posts too for inspiration, and that made me feel better. :luck:

For what it's worth, the formula only works if you put in your average from the last 300 or so questions you do before the test. Using the cumulative score will greatly underestimate your actual performance.

it really is hard to tell, the correlation is really not that strong. but, i'd go with the averages of the majority of your tests....it sounds like you're going to do fine (based on the less than strong correlation between UWorld and the real thing). what you should do is take a NBME test like a week before. whatever you get on that, you'll likely do better on test day 🙂 i got a 231 on NBME and wound up with a 246

I agree with this - gasprincess, were you using your cumulative 55% to predict your score? If so, this doesn't make much sense and definitely not enough to say that there is no correlation between UW and your step 2 score.

The predicted score for my last 300 hundred questions was relatively close to my actual score (off by 10) but definitely not off by 34 like yours. When you took my cumulative percent correct and compared the predicted score from this, it was way off my actual score.

I didn't do any better on my last 300 questions than when I first started. I ranged from 50-75% an averaged a 55%. I have to clarify that I used UW in tutor mode for the majority of my studying. So, maybe it wasn't as accurate.

My point is, don't worry about a low UW score. Just try to learn from your mistakes, stay positive, and you will be fine. A low UW score doesn't necessarily mean you will have a low Step 2 score. There are so many variables when taking this test, so a formula trying to calculate your predicted score will only bring out unecessary anxiety or over-confidence. Either way, the formula to me is pretty useless.

Good luck to everybody taking Step 2! :luck::luck:

My Step 2 story.

Step 1: 227(92)
Step 2: 243(99)
UW average: 66% (random, timed, all)

I first would like to say that I am very thankful for my score. My goal was exactly around that range. I studied about 3.5 weeks for the test right after my third year. I just would like to put a disclaimer that the advice below is just my opinion. You have to see what works right for you.

My resources:

1) Step-Up to Medicine
2) First Aid to Step 2 CK
3) USMLE WORLD
4) NBME Practice Exams

I went through each of the above in their entirety once.

1) Step-Up to Medicine: This book was one of my favorite books in med school, second only to Goljan. I read this book during my medicine clerkship once during the beginning of my third year. During my board prep, I also read it once. I really like this book because of the outline format and that it’s really easy to grasp what’s important. Their flow charts are excellent and make it easy to learn the big picture. This has all what you need to know for medicine and maybe a little more. For Step 2 purposes, I do have to admit it might get a slight bit more technical, but I still think it’s the best book for the exam, as most of the exam is medicine. Remember, that this exam asks you the next step! (pun intended) So, you should be versed in how to diagnose things and what to do regarding management, which this book provides.

2) First Aid to Step 2 CK: This book was good, but not great. Like its former counterpart for Step 1, this book provides an outline of the most essential things for the exam. Admittedly, one book cannot cover everything you need to know. This book is divided into sections, i.e. Cards, Peds, OB/GYN, etc. It did have useful tables that were concise that provided only the essentials. However, the medicine sections were not as great as Step-Up. I would venture to say if time is your biggest constraint, read only the non-medicine sections in this book ALONG with Step-Up. However, I read them both in their entirety.

3) USMLE WORLD: I really liked this question bank. Like most of you, I used Kaplan for Step 1 and was quite disappointed. However, UW was right on the money. Their questions really made you think and they provided the same level of difficulty as the exam. Furthermore, their questions, for the most part, tested the things you needed to know. Very rarely did they have the esoteric b.s. that I remember plagued Kaplan. I did two blocks a day and checked my answers and also did 8 blocks on one day to simulate a real exam. Like I said before, I did all the questions. I really thought the more questions I did, the more I learned. I would recommend to do at least 75% of the questions if time is your constraint. By the way, UW was also very affordable.

4) NBME Practice Exams: These are the exams that you pay for from NBME. There are three of them, each for $45. They consist of 4 blocks of questions. They give you an estimated score of the real thing and tell you how you did on each section. They do not provide the answers. Like the ones for Step 1, these are probably the most accurate assessment of how well you are doing. I did only two of them, of which the second one was dead on to how well I did on the real exam.

Overall, my journey was tough, but I think it was much better than Step 1. The material is more interesting and you do remember quite a bit from 3rd year. I think the sources I used are fairly standard for the exam, except that most people probably do not use Step-Up, which, as I said before, is an excellent book. Also, I did not check out Crush, so I cannot comment on it. Studying well during your third year, which I forgot to mention, obviously is necessary to do well.

In closing, I feel satisfied with my score and am thankful for all of your support.

Step 1: 260
Step 2CK: 259

USMLE World: 70% cum. --> did 20q subject tests after reading sections in FA, then did 25-46q randoms and finished about 55% of the bank. Did not have enough time to finish, but GREAT explainations to questions. As all have said: definitely minutia, but hey, minutia is good sometimes.

NBME1: 750/263 2 days before exam

First Aid: Read sections then UWq's and wrote important points in FA sections. Then read again taking 4-5days (read slowly and all notes). As far as I am concerned FA is almost unfair to have. Great resource if you take great care to learn all of it.

All in all, 2.5 weeks studying 8-10 hours a day, causually doing some extra questions on weekends.

I worked my butt off and I am totally thrilled.... make it simple and stick to few sources and learn them THOUROGHLY... good luck to all!🙂😎🙂

i am still stunned.
step 1 210

NBME form 1 210
NBME form 2 215

Step II 232/96

i am a below average student. i studied hard and it finally happened to me.
i am gonna party hard today!!!!!!!!!!!

I felt USMLEWorld was the single best source of preparation for the test. I studied for 3 weeks w\ world & made flashcards of the concepts tested by the questions that I answered incorrectly. I felt world was better, in my case, than 3rd year even. It seemed on my rotations the majority of my time was spent learning how to fill out paper-work or standing around, then cramming for the shelf's...which I did fair to good on. Once I went through USMLEWorld, I thought, "Oh, this is what I was supposed to learn this year."

To supplement world, I used Kaplan for Peds (as I was weak in this area) & IM (bc\ it's important). I did Secrets as well. I had just used casefiles for OB rotation, & went back over it (found it to be the single best book for any shelf throughout the year).

I only intended to do USMLEWorld + First Aid, but I found that I just couldn't read first aid due to the format. Also, a lot of the times the material presented there would not be in a useful format or would be too general. The main things to know seemed to be "What is the screening test for disease X?" & "What is diagnostic test for disease X" for a common disease X, & then what is the diagnosis for an uncommon disease Y.

Anyway, best of luck to anyone taking Step 2 CK!

Step 1: 228
Step 2: 261 whoohoo!!😀

I only used USMLE world to study. I averaged around 68% but varied anywhere from 57-80.

STEP 2: 232 (96)

Books: First Aid CK
Q-Bank: UW (did about half and ranged from 60-75%)
Time Period: 2 weeks (8-10h/day), weekends (4-5h/day)

The test kept getting harder and harder as the day went on, or maybe I was just fatigued.

make it simple and stick to few sources and learn them THOUROGHLY... good luck to all!🙂😎🙂

Totally agree.

Step 1: 244
Step 2CK: 269

I'm an Australasian student so probably studied a lot more than Americans. Had to learn a lot of things by myself, as Australasian curriculum doesn't prepare you well for gunshots and stab wounds and Rocky Mountain spotted fever and HIV.

Resources:
UW (2 month subscription, did it twice) - 77% average second time
FA 2CK (didn't take it seriously, used as a template/notebook(?) to annotate material from UW)
Kaplan surgery (only for trauma and orthopaedics)
Crush (only for ENT and ophtho)
Sample CD (predicted 249)

Lastly, no amount of money or books will substitute for plain old hard work.

Checked this forum frequently while studying, so I thought I would post.... (took 10/12, score released today)

Step 1: 227
Step 2: 248
NBME (in order that i took them): ob/gyn 74, FM 75, IM 84, Surg 84, Psych 90

Used USMLEWorld as my main source - avg 63% by the end (started around 58) but ranging from 48-80's on any given day. Also used B&W and First Aid (and wiki). Did not use any NBME. If I had any advice it would be to take your time with world and know why you got each question right or wrong and of course to prepare for the shelf exams.

well i am not a typical overachieving sdn'r. i am an fmg and average student. 😉 i love sdn, but most around here are super students...

but here is another take on it. this is for the folks that dont hit 99's 🙂

first attempt, usmle world 47%. step 2ck 160 kinda could have guessed.

second attempt, usmle world 60% BUT i had seen some q's before so its skewed..
i read secrets like a bible, it was my only source aside from world.

nbme1 370
nbme 360 huh? went down...

got the score today 194/79.
i am so relieved!!!!!! sure i wish i had a 240, but i am thankful for the pass!

the odd thing is, i was in the 85th percentile on world in psych, and on the real exam it was my lowest area. strange?

thanks God, it is over and i am done 🙂

Great Job jdig, congrats!! I was curious though, how much time did you have between your retake. I just took an NBME and was not happy with my score, so I postponed my Step. Also, any other advice you have would be great since I'm not a "99er" either.👍

I'm doing World questions, Secrets, and referring to my kaplan books when necessary.

Maybe this has already been asked but, Which is more correct???

The website with the score correlations at medfriends.org

or the formula 2.3 x UW score + 84 that gives me a higher score... 🙂

I don't know if I'm an anomaly or something, but I actually did a lot better than what either of these predicted. The only one that came close was the NBME practice test score predicted by medfriends. World in particular underestimated my score by a big margin. Perhaps the formula isn't quite up to date and needs to be derived again?

I agree with you. My score was actually 30 points higher than what both that equation and medfriends.com predicts, which is obviously a huge difference! The only thing I found to be even close to accurate was the estimate the nbme gave me when I took one of their $40 practice tests (I think I took #2). That estimate was about 13 points lower, if I remember correctly.

Why do you think they are so far off? My only thought is that I did usmleworld exclusively in random, timed 46 question blocks and without looking up or changing answers. Maybe my percentile was lower compared to people who did it differently?

Not that I am complaining... I am totally thrilled with that 30 points extra!!

Good luck everyone!

Could be...I did UW similarly, but I took them untimed (and usually in front of the tv 😛). But maybe having the distraction of the TV lowered my UW score...who knows? But from what I can tell, a lot of people here seem to have scored above the formula (like the ~60%/250 combos I keep seeing). I think it just might need to be recalculated.

I agree! But I guess I am not really complaining... I'd much rather be suprised with a higher score rather than a lower score!

As a long time reader of this forum, I guess I should post my own results since I have constantly looked at the rest of yours over the past 3 years.

Step 1: 249
UW: 67% cumulative by the end, then went back through and redid about 50% of the questions I got wrong the first time.
NBME practice test #2: I don't remember the actual number, but it predicted a 260.
Third year shelf exams: my lowest was medicine and surgery, 85% and 87%. The rest were in the 95-99%.

I also reread through Secrets, FA Medicine, and Blueprints Neurology.

Step 2: 272!!!

Obviously I am pretty happy, but I was definitely suprised to do so well! I came out of the test thinking it was a lot harder than I had expected.

I did not kill myself studying for the test like I did for step 1. I took 2 weeks off and studied around 6 hours a day during that time. I really think that 95% of the prep work was studying my a** off during third year. I did a lot of questions from smaller review books (blueprints, pretest, casefiles, etc) before each of ths shelf exams, so I felt really prepared before I even began studying this year. UW was great... there were several questions on the exam that were VERY similar to ones I had already seen on UW.

Good luck everyone!

step I: 228

I started studying very lightly 8 weeks before step II. I was using First Aid, First Aid Cases, Secrets, and of course UW. I was writing note on all these sources and going through everything by subject including UW. I also would use tutor mode exclusively because you get instant feedback which would either reinforce or let you know that you are wrong immediately. After a few weeks I trimmed down to just Secrets and UW with the focus of finishing UW. I also stopped taking notes. I would occasionally look at some sources I used during my shelfs like pretest and blueprints for very specific questions.

I finished UW about 1 week before with a 62% cum avg. I ended up doing all of my missed questions (tutor), problem areas, and random sets which ended up being equivalent to going through UW twice. My last few random set were 86, 91, and 97%. I was recalling questions though.

NBME test 1: 233 right after finishing UW

Step II: 253😀

Step 1: 231
Step 2CK: 240

UW (did a little over half of the questions): straight 63%s by the end
Free NBME test: 84% average over the three tests

Took it 10/31, this is the third Wednesday after.

I took 3.5 weeks off during October to study for CK. Probably did about 3-4 real hours of studying each day. I read First Aid, Secrets, and Crush each once through, no highlighting, no re-reviewing things. Did UW as I said above -- toward the end I was cranking out the 63% like no one's business, no matter how I felt during the block.

I felt like the real thing was a hell of a lot harder than UW, and that seems to be the consensus among the latest batch of CK'ers. I was freaking out during the test.

And getting that damn score report was KILLING me. Got the email around 8am, then tried on 5+ computers at the hospital to get my score report (yes, they did have Acrobat) to no avail. Errors every time. At last, I can relax :hardy:

Good luck to everyone else!!

I got my scores this morning (took the test 11/3).

Step 1: 246
Step 2: 261

I'm most excited because I was just hoping to not go down significantly from Step 1 to Step 2.

I did about 97% of the USMLEWorld bank with a cumulative score around 66%. I also did the big Kaplan Qbook, annotated Step 2 FA throughout third year, and read through Step 2 secrets and Boards and Wards during third year.

I really think Step 2 Secrets is a great book. I learn much better by reading questions and answers than bullet points.

:luck:PD

Just took Step 2 CK this week, wow! 😱, there must be different versions of this exam as it seemed MUCH easier than Step 1 . . . I didn't believe people who told me that Step 2 CK was easier than Step 1, but when I took 2 CK I easily had enough time to re-check every question in all the blocks, usually ~20 minutes left over during the first run through, then took about 15 minutes to re-check the questions, changed maybe 1 or 2 for each block, . . .and then sat there for 7-5 minutes just relaxing so I only needed to use 30 minutes of break for lunch . . . when I took Step 1 I finished all the blocks but almost ran out of time for some, the blurb for each questions was manageable and much less than usmleworld (UW), and much of it was vitals and labs that were easy enough to read quickly, I think that doing alot of the usmleworld questions really helps because you get used to basically plowing through these exams, and I would say that the UW is very similar in question style and computer based setup to the real thing, only thing is that some questions have like a through n for the answers, but usually it was obvious what was the right choice, I thought that the first block was hard at first, but I finished it with time to spare like the others, I am freaked out that I answered the first questions wrong and the the computer gave me easy questions because it thought that I was doiong poorly and wanted to see how bad I was! I have heard people who thought it was hard do very well, and I thought step 1 was sort of hard but got a 236, I was freaked about the epidemiology/ethics/statistics, but got a question about sensitivity versus specificity and one about giving treatment in a straightforward scenario, . . .

Anyway my study material/methods was:

1.Usmleworld, basically because it was/is highly recommended by this webiste, did NOT use any qbank for step 1 . . . went through UW once and then repeated specific questions and then went back through about 1/3 of it again . . . I started this months before the exam, i.e. would one set of 46 or maybe 10 questions every or every other night. Early on UW was hard i.e. ~60% right I think it motivated me to study "real" stuff like textbooks, made me realize how much I didn't know. In the end I was getting 70-85% right on blocks, mostly because I remembered the questions and had repeated alot of it over the year, I think this helped because it woke me up to how hard Step 2 CK would be and helped me identify areas of weakness like renal . . . it was funny how classic scenarios like a ship-builder = asbestos and nursery care worked = fifth's disease appearred on the real exam, maybe step 2 CK just has a huge question data base decades old 😕

I think my best resource was actually emedicine, I have a secondary flat screen dual monitor I connected to my laptop (almost all laptops can do this) so I could surf the internet while I did UW (I didn't copy any of their material but this is why it hard to open other windows) when I came to a topic I didn't know I would google "emedicine + hemolytic uremic syndrome" and then read the painfully long article, I did this for my patients problems on the wards, . . . it took me along time to get through even 10 questions initially on UW as I would the article on slipped capital femoris etc . . . if I got the question wrong, or knew in my heart I didn't have it down, . . . in the end I think that if you are reviewing just what you know then you really aren't studying, this is the foundation of "meta-cognition" i.e. identifying what you didn't know and then focusing on that, UW helped big time with this.

2. Read all of NMS medicine, did some of the questions in the chapters, used First Aid for Medicine during medicine clerkship, read Step Up to Medicine in 2-3 days, I love this reference-easy to read for me and neat bullet points, read Kaplan medicine.

3. Read half of Ob/Gyn Blueprints after using it for Ob/Gyn clerkship in spring, read a couple cases out of ob/gyn case files, kaplan ob/gyn.

4. Neurology: Actually read Lange Neurology and 1/3 of Neurology case files during a neuro elective.

5. Read most of Boards and Wards, and went through First Aid for Step 2 CK during third year and then read it again in the weeks to exam

6. Pediatrics: Did some of pediatrics pre-test (wish I could have finished it), read first aid pediatrics,

7. Read the Primer on Kidney Disease, an intimidating book, but felt it was necessary as I am/was so weak in nephrology

8. Read Lange Pulmonology, great book, but don't know how much sticks the first time, was weak in pulmonary so felt I needed this, would have read Lange Cardiology if had the time.

9. Read surgery first aid, surgical recall on surgery, and some of NMS surgery during clerkship, kaplan surgery.

10. Read about my patients in depth, i.e. it is a no-brainer that various medical conditions, CHF, diabetes, leukemia i.e. multiple myeloma will be on step 2 CK so if you have a patient with these problems reading long stuff like review articles in New England Journal pays off

11. I actually shelled out ~$300 for Gold Standard audio step 2 tapes, put them on the iPod and listened to them in the car, wherver, they helped some with drugs, big topics like CHF, especially GI, I guess basically keept my brain on medicine, very slow narrator, I will probably continue to listen to them as will help with Step 3, not sure if I would buy again considering price, but helpful.

Conclusion: Staying awake during third year and reading every night (~60 pgs) was my goal and I hope it paid off for Step 2 CK, but . . . definitely feel more confident on the wards this week! Watched television for the first time in a longtime, i.e. have never seen "The Office" or other shows, can't say I missed alot, did rent movies about 1-2/month to watch from Blockbuster for entertainment and reading news on websites, and of course this thread. My version of Step 2 CK seemed much easier than UW and with overall shorter question stems, i.e. many just 2-3 sentences!! This is an endurance test though. Will post score when I get it. Good Luck to all who have yet to take the exam.

Step 1 = 232
Step 2 CK = ?!?

Step 1: 254
Step 2: 262 😀

I completed all of USMLEworld...mostly in tutor mode and averaged 66% cumulative. I also read Crush and Secrets and skimmed B+W. Good luck to everyone else!

Step 1: 223 (90)
UW: 58% (completed 80% of the questions)
NBME: no time to do any
Practice CD: no time to do any (I just looked at the matching sets the morning of the exam just to get a feel for what they're about as UW doesn't have them)
Step 2: 217 (89)

I crammed really hard for 3-4 weeks, even up to 3am the day before the exam!--->I fell asleep partially during blocks 3 to 6. I was so tired I couldn't read all the questions completely but just first and last sentences. I was so tired at one point I just wanted this exam to be over! I could've done better I'm sure, but I'll take a 217 over a failure (which is seriously what I thought happened). I truly believe in miracles and prayer (which ever religion you may be from), because thats the only way I can explain passing a board exam when you're half awake during 4 blocks.

My advice... Do the opposite of what I did:
1) Do all of USMLE world (my friend said the day before the exam he saw 8 new questions with topics that appeared on his exam the next day!)
2) Sleep 8+ hours before the exam (more if you can)

Also:
3) Pray
4) Help others in this forum, and wish others well 🙂

feel free to PM me, or post reply here

i'm taking step 2 in 5 days, just took nbme step 2 for $45 and had my arse completely kicked, like i felt completely dumb taking it and lost all confidence. i got the equivalent of a 176!

but - i'm about 1/2 way through usmle world, and the past 3 full 46q timed sections of varied questions i've done i haven't scored less than 65%, and have been steady around 65-70% for the past few days. the usmleworld q's are ridiculously easy compared to the nbme clinical science test, and i am very confused.

somebody please tell me i'm not going insane. or am i?

thanks

Step1 score : 195
USMLE World : 90% done roughly 51%
my Step 2 score : 242.

For those of you who are getting scared reading the thread here I can assure you that there is absolutely no correlation between USMLEW and step 2 score. Please take it from me. Do your best and don't read these threads too much and lose heart. Good Luck
