USMLERx vs Kaplan QBank for step1 prep during classes

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
USMLERx is by the First Aid team

Robbins Review is a question book to go along with the textbook, its a very good source of path questions btw

If you want questions to do FOR PATHOLOGY: get Robbins Review and Lippincott's Question Book. PreTest is ok, but should be third.

If you want questions to do FOR STEP WHILE STUDYING FOR PATH: get Kaplan.

If you want questions to do FOR STEP AFTER PATH: get UWorld

Kaplan: detail oriented, requires substantial knowledge fo subjects, many questions, broad coverage. Reference to First Aid and MedEssential pages, decent explanations. Best for use during course work.

UWorld. Concept oriented, hammers home the important topics. Has fewer questions, and keeps drilling the same thing over and over. Great when you put them in the mix for random question taking (as in Board studying), huge gaps in Pathology course work studying. Imensely better explanations and diagrams.

USMLERx consistently falls behind both U World and Kaplan. Most people don't use it. It is the "third player" in the possible qbanks. Use it only after you have depleted both Kaplan and UWorld (aka, you are a crazy gunner trying to do 12,000 questions for Step 1)

I plan on doing UWorld closer to my test date so I'm saving that for later, but if I've already bought USMLERx do you think it's worth it to buy Kaplan and use it instead?

You wont have time for 3 qbanks. Your money is spent, its ok.

Instead, I would spend your money on Lippincott's Path Review and Robbins Question book. You might as well get practice and do well on Path rather than trying to figure out which qbank you should have bought.

1. definitely do UWorld closer to test
2. do not plan to use a 3rd Qbank (sunk cost, go with it)
3. do get other question books for path practice
