USN academic forgiveness/grade replacement

I was jumping with joy when I heard about USN grade Academic Forgiveness / grade replacement policy, and then when I read deeper into it my heart was broken as I realized all pre-reqs had to have been completed within the past 5 years. Does anyone know if there is any exception to this 5 year period (or talk of any policy changes that might be made for the next application cycle) as it took me longer since I completed a B.S. and I graduated a while ago, but have taken some higher level science courses in the past semester (which I think would demonstrate that I still remember all the important material.)

My friend went that route with the academic forgiveness. My friend had to retake classes that were too old. They are very strict and there are no exceptions.
