Hey all I was just wondering how many people out there applied to the University of Tennessee Memphis? From those that applied has anyone heard anything other than an email saying they recieved the AMCAS application? That school and Finch in Chicago are the only schools left that I haven't heard much from.

I got a secondary about a week ago from them. Very simple to fill out, and it came in snailmail. Good Luck!!!!😀

Ditto. Got mine Thursday.

No essays, just a request for $50. God bless 'em, too, cuz I've written enough essays (and fired off enough $100 checks) to last a lifetime. Skip the crap on the app, let me just cut you a check, you know?

I'm applying there also. Love the in-state deal. Haven't gotten my MCAT scores yet, so no secondary. They did send me an e-mail telling me that got my amcas stuff though.

Hey Funkless and Robz, I'm at Knoxville too. Where alse you guys applying?

I applied to about 25 schools but I would love to stay instate.

MUHAHAHAHHAHAHA yeah. They have Beale Street and the Grizzlies....I am pretty sure they serve alcohol at both. 🙂

I'd need lots of it to live in Memphis.

Hey, now....I'm from a small town in west TN...Memphis is where I go to be in the big city. I would love to go to school there!

Had no idea there were so many other Knoxvillians on the SDN. Knoxvillians, yea, God's elite...

I'm actually living up in Connecticut right now, and most of my applications are to New England schools. (I'm sort of reverse-carpetbagging, I guess.) Had to stick in Memphis and Vandy.

So, if we're all applying together, we may have had some classes together. Did you guys go to UTK? Take Orgo from Dr. Schell or Dr. Bartmess?

--Funkless

P.S. Yes, I'm homesick.

I also applied to UT Memphis, got the secondary sent it back pretty painless IMHO. I sent 28 secondaries and still debating about two more....we will see.

Another Knoxvillian here......I just moved to Memphis and I like it alot more than I thought I would. I am attending U of M right now and its pretty nice too, not UTK however. Funkless, I had both of them....Bartmess for 350 and Schell for 360. Schell was cool but Bartmess was a dick. How did you like the orgo lab professor? I can't remember his name but he acted like the biggest prick of all, most of the time.

I actuall had a dude named Baker for 350. Teaches mostly grad classes and does research. I guess he got stuck with teaching it or something. Had Schell for 360, liked the 110 point tests. Had Bartmess for lab discussion and hate his guts. He cussed at me once for taking off my goggles. It was so hard not to laugh in his face with that whiny, nasally voice of his. I really wanted to make him cut his hair, get contacts, and wear pants that were long enough to reach his shoes. Always dressed for a flood, such a shame. I think the guy was born in a test tube or something, cause he loves that damn lab more than life itself.

Knoxville Rules, classes suck, homework blows.

I applied to UT-Memphis... it's fairly close to home in Arkansaw and the city is a good time.

Memphis would be a crazy place to spend 4 years... although midtown is ok and at least housing is cheap!

I lucked out and had Green for my Orgo classes. By far one of the best professors I have ever had (and I have over 200 credits of classes). I really enjoyed organic chemistry and ended up getting of of my best LOR from that class. I'll duck now from the poeple that hated orgo. 😛

hey jst
How do you think the contracted schedule will affect you guys this year? will it be more difficult or will you enjoy the extra time off? I was waitlisted for your class but I'll see ya next year, i hope. memphis rocks!

I applied last year for the entering fall 2003 class. I got accepted but delayed until 2004 so I could finish my senior year of college. I'm from Dunlap, just north of Chattanooga, but I'm down at Clemson University in SC right now. Any one else from that part of Tennessee? I'm excited about starting next fall. I'm going to try to head back to memphis in the spring to go apartment hunting. I hear Mud Island is a good place to start. I haven't checked in a while, but has UT memphis posted the acceptance list on their website yet? It felt so good to see my name on that list. I was grinning ear to ear the day I got the call.

Thats cool man some more Chattanooga area people. Keep posting!

Good to see so many tennessee people on here. What's funny is I started this thread the beginning of september and I still haven't heard from UT. I called them last month and again this last week and both times I am "under review". MUHAHAHAH. I asked if it was normal to wait 4-5 months to give a secondary and they said yeah. I dunno. I am just amused now. We'll see if I get a secondary before I hear about my acceptance/rejection from ETSU.

I just had my interview (crossed fingers) on the 15th. I was very impressed. The adcom actually met this afternoon (for the first time, I think)...

I don't think they'll be posting the acceptance on the web this year. It sounded like they'll be notifying by mail.

Good luck,

I went to undergraduate at Vanderbilt, and I am from Knoxville as well. I got into UT memphis last year, but I hated the city. No offense to all those who are attending UT memphis. School itself is ok, but I didn't like where it's at. Eventually I chose Tufts. I guess I just wanted to move out of the state so bad. So far Boston is awesome.

Hey guys just wondering how long it took for UT to get back to you after you returned the secondary. I sent mine on Nov 1st and they still haven't even cashed the check. Should I call?

It took them forever to take care of my secondary. I was beginning to think that they might have lost it, so I was going to call, but one morning I got a call asking why I wasn't at my interview. My stuff had gotten lost in the mail!!!! They let me reschedule, and I've interviewed (loved it, btw). Case in point: CALL THEM AND ASK. Diane Harris and Nelson Strother are so nice, and they will definately help you!!

MUHAHAHAH yeah they are helpful but according to them I am "still under review". (I called once in OCT and once 2 weeks ago) I asked if it was normal for them to take near 6 months to decide on giving a SECONDARY....they said it was. OY..... my state school is the only school I have not heard from. (and I received 10 interviews elsewhere) I'll keep my fingers crossed 🙂

Hey anybody from TN that took the August MCAT got interviews from UT or ETSU. I PM you RObz

I applied to UT-Memphis from out-of-state (Arkansas)... I had a lovely conversation with Diane last week about the school and my application, but I still haven't received a secondary from them. 🙂

I have applied to a wide range of schools... Emory, Baylor, Arkansas, Mizzou, Tulane, UCSF, Stanford, Northwestern, UChicago, Vanderbilt, GW, Duke, Mayo, and UT. Thus far, I've heard back from UCSF with a rejection... all the others are currently reviewing my file.

For some reason, neither Tennessee schools have given me any love (ie secondaries) yet...

Hey Md 2b In TN,

I just got my interview notice in the mail. Took the August MCAT and interviewing on Dec. 2.

Cool, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I just moved and my mail has not forwarded yet, should by Saturday.

What sort of rotations does UT-Memphis have in Chattanooga, Nashville, or other locations? For instance, could you do your entire third of fourth year in Chattanooga?

I think you can do the majority of your 3rd and 4th years in Knoxville or Chattanooga. It seems like there is some rotation that has to be done in Memphis though.
