I'm applying this cycle and hoping to hear success stories from applicants who submitted later in the last cycle. I have a July MCAT date and won't be complete until the beginning of September. Very strong ties to the region, non-trad, good mission fit, etc. so I think I'll be okay otherwise, I'm just worried about securing an interview date 😅

You will get your MCAT score back in August; it would be a lot better if you had everything ready to go in your TMDSAS app by the time your score is available and submit in August.
September is really pushing it for being complete in TMDSAS but would be OK for applying to DO schools on AACOMAS.

Sorry, I should've been more specific. My primary application was submitted on May 15th. I am pre-writing secondaries and have 3 of the 4 done for UT Tyler, with the goal to have them ready before I get an invitation to complete the secondary app. LORs should all be submitted before I take the MCAT.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t get any secondary invitations all summer, because the schools will not consider your application complete without an MCAT score.
As soon as you get your score back you must log in to your MCAT portal and give permission to release the score to TMDSAS

I applied to four TX schools and have received secondary invites from two of them, with the understanding that I'm not complete without the MCAT. I still have the ability to submit my essays through their applicant portals, at least. I know that UT Tyler won't send an invite without a score; they actually emailed me today reminding me to release my score as soon as I have it. I'm just hoping they are quick to send the invite when they do get my score, so that there may still be available interview spots. Thanks for the feedback!

I do not necessarily have the connections to east texas as someone who grew up there, but my fiance and her whole family lives there and i visit them very often and love the place. I also worked a lot there and played there as a soccer player for many years of my childhood. I want to know if it is possible to talk to you about how to increase my chances of getting into the school as I am filling out secondaries now.

There are several essays in the secondary for this school to express your ties to East Texas and the reasons you would like to study medicine in Tyler.
It will help to talk about the time you have spent there yourself and what you like about the area, the people, and what you understand about the schools purpose. They want students who would be content to come to Tyler for school and who might stay there to practice medicine after graduating. You can mention your fianceé too but don't make it the only thing you write about.

The optional essay can be anything else that you want them to know about you, not necessarily specific to the school or region. You could use it to explain grades, MCAT retakes, elaborating on healthcare experiences, a specific incident that made you interested in primary care, etc.

Wanted to ask for all those who ended up getting to the interview stage, how was the MMI? What should I expect and how many interviews are there? I am damn really interested in going to the school and have literally driven there like 4 times outside of the tours I went to to tour the medical center and the school just out of joy lol. ANY TIPS ARE HELPFUL YALLLLLLL!!!
