Hi All,

I am curious. How many of you guys have heard from most of the TMDSAS medical schools other than UTSA? Are they just slow in screening the applications? I am still waiting to hear from them (application transmitted 7/15/03). It is getting frustrating because according to their website they will stop interviewing on December 8.

I have interviewed with UT-Houston, Galveston, and A&M. I have Tech scheduled for december (may cancel because I have already been accepted to out of state school) However, I have yet to hear from San Antonio. I called a couple of weeks ago and they said my file was still under review. Maybe there is something particular they are looking for in their applicants

san antonio was the first one i heard from...i guess thats a strange result, especially since galveston has no secondary. i wonder why that is?

I also have yet to hear from San Antonio. Been to Houston and about to go to Galveston. Strange! I thought San Antonio was less competitive than those 2.

Do some more research. If you take out all the URM stat's, UTSA and UTH are pretty close (but UTH has better facilities/resources) and UTMB@G has been working hard on thier...... ummmm...... reputation for the past few yrs (and making progress). All good school, but don't rank UTSA below them.

San Antonio was my first MD school interview in Texas. I got Tech on the 19th. I have yet to hear from Houston, who interviewed me last year with an MCAT 5 points lower and less clinical exp. I yes there is a certain measure of luck involved or maybe each school looks for something different. For example, SA may look at one EC as not very important or very important, while another school takes the opposite approach. Maybe what they look at changes year to year too, which would explain why I don't have a Houston interview this year.

You might be misinformed about the TMDSAS schools stopping interviews on December 8th since my original interview date at UT Southwestern was supposed to be in January.

Uh...yeah. What the heck is their problem. I have interviewed at every other school in TX and have heard nothing from them. I would really like to have them as one of my choices. I guess if I don't here something within a week or two they won't be an option. I have said this all along. "Getting into med school is a crap shoot" It could be your day or not. Oh well, I hope someone gets in there.

Does anyone know the number of applicants interviewed at San Antonio, and how many they ultimately accept. I know they accept 200, but they will ultimately accept more than 200, since not everyone of the initial 200 will put SA as first on the match. Which brings the % of interviews up for those who do pick it as first in the match.

I have been having the same problem as you, except with getting an interview at UT Houston.

I believe San Antonio gets about 3000 applicants and interviews about 900 people. From there, a ranked list of 300 is sent to Austin and on Feb 1st the first 200 that fit in the class with the Match system get accepted. Thoses left are waitlisted and should recieve waitlisted letters within a month from Feb 1st.

all right...except the number is closer to 1,200

I met with Dr. Jones the Dean of Admissions last year because I was waitlisted. He told me in that office visit (MAY '03) that they interview 900 out of ~3000 applicants.

My application was sent to schools on 11-05 and I received a letter dated 11-20-03 this past Friday for an interview Monday 12-08-03. I know for a fact that they are interviewing until Monday 12-15-03. UTHSCSA only interviews on Mondays. I was told that they also try and send out invitations to interview about three weeks out.

I would suspect that this week will be the last week of invites that go out in San Antonio.

Does anyone know about the other Texas schools?

Thanks for the info, STAC. I thought it was an awesome school and it makes me feel better that my chances of getting in are about a 1/3 vs. 1/4 or lower. Hopefully we both get in on FEB 1st.

My wife and I live in San Antonio and we just bought a house here, we will be moving into it in a couple of weeks. We have pretty much thrown all of hope in to UTHSCSA working out for me this year. I am so ready to start school...but first you have to get accepted and all that. I am so sick of the application hoops we are all expected to go through as some right of passage we all must endure. But I understand the importance of it all I guess...

the hotel has a free shuttle to and from the airport and med school - i figured by the time i considered the cost for a cab ride to the host and back it would be at least $50 (it was $60 for my cab ride in houston...one way)

Tell them about the horrible heat in the summer. Tell them about the lousy student parking. Tell them about the construction going on the campus. Tell them about the incredibly lousy food in the cafeteria but don't tell them you think it's a great school.

Well, as its been snowing all day here, I would welcome the heat. And the parking only sucks if you don't compare it to Houston. The food does suck in the cafeteria but no one eats there.

At least now there is the coffee place. wasn't there when I was a first and second year. *sigh*

Well then stress that the school is a maze and that it will take at least a week before they can get around outside of the library and classrooms.
