I was out at UTSW a few weeks ago and loved it. The one thing that I find puzzling is that every academic pathologist I have ever asked regarding UTSW's program quality and reputation has said that they don't know anything about the program...? I know that the program did have some issues several years ago with AMG recruitment (prior to their new PD), but it just seems odd that the Path dept of such a large medical center doesn't raise any opinions-good OR bad--amongst anyone I've talked to.

Anyone hear any advice regarding UTSW's training?

(I don't think it's a Texas bias, either, cuz everyone has something to say about Baylor's program (in Houston). By the way, is there a website for Baylor's residency program? I can't find anything about their training on the web...)

OK, I apologize for rambling...I'm trying to avoid cracking open those Step 2 books 🙄

I myself am going to Dallas tonight for my interview at UTSW tomorrow.

At the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga County Coroner's office I heard nothing but compliments about the strength of UTSW's program. There's some staff at UTSW that trained at either UH or the Clinic, as well as a few staff here in the Cleveland area which trained at UTSW. Word on the street up here is that the clin path dept at UTSW, amongst others, is quite good.

More news as I tour through the joint tomorrow. It's up there on my list, so I'm kind of antsy about it.

p.s. And as for Baylor COM, you might want to go here or here

Thanks for the info, and in case you check the forums again before you go, GOOD LUCK! Attendings were all super-nice and the interviews were very friendly and laid-back. Hope you have a good time!

Hope you enjoyed your visits to UTSW. I am a first year resident there if you have any particular questions. All-in-all I am very satisfied, both with colleagues and the faculty. Enjoy your interviews!

Again, a late reply.

Fleegle, much like yourself, I had a great time at my UTSW interview. The staff and residents were all-around nice people, and seemed to have a pretty good interaction with each other. They made a *very* good argument to train there...

As for Baylor, they gave me the runaround with the interview, so I just decided to give them the middle finger. UTSW was much more organized, professional, and welcoming. But that's just my opinion.

What are the other good programs in Texas?

I am new to this board but have been reading it with interest. I am interested in Path. It sounds like some people liked their experience (interview or otherwise) at Baylor and some don't. Any feedback from other programs in the state?
