Today I sent an email to PT program coordinator in UTSW to ask about prerequisite courses, and I got an automatic reply. Some of notes scared me a lot, and I'd like to know from accepted applicants to UTSW if that's ture. "Baseline exposure hours are 250 + in a variety of settings (at least 20 hours in each setting) and 20 hour inpatient. Letters of recommendation (3). GRE score 'baseline' is 150/150/4.5 and is required for all applicants.""We look at three GPA scores: Overall GPA (3.8), Last 60 hours GPA (3.8) and the Pre-req GPA (3.8 – 3.9) to be competitive."

Everytime I tried to ask something from the program, they always not seem to be "friendly". It's a feeling that they are the best school in the world and only the best student may catch their attention. UTSW was my dream school, but if the above is true, I will not put all my effort on this one.

Its all about how your stats line up with the programs. Have you tries calling? I know many schools are overwhelmed with questions due to it being application season. Do ot be discouraged! Stay positive. Sometimes too, what you thought would be your dream school, is overshadowed by a school that's a much better fit for you . Message me if you have any questions

I don't know about the "culture" of the program, but they did become extremely competitive once they started using PTCAS a year or two ago.

I understand exactly how you feel. I attended one of their information sessions last summer and immediately felt intimidated by the school and their staff. One thing to consider when applying to a school is to see how that school fits your personality. Research the program and ask yourself if you'll be comfortable in attending the school. If your answer is yes, then by all means apply. If your answer is no, then don't apply.

I would keep these stats in mind when looking at schools. An 88% graduation rate seems pretty low if you ask me when you are talking about the time and financial commitment you are putting into things. Yeah, the licensing exam rate is decent, but that's after they lost a few people from the program. I would make sure you're keeping your options open because as previously stated, you don't want to miss out on something else that might be a much better fit for you.

Hello! I am currently a 3rd year student at UTSW. Just wanted to reassure you that the stats of the accepted applicants are just an "average". We had students in my class that had 3.3 GPAs and we had students that had 4.0 GPAs. They really try to look at the applicant as a whole and not just their numbers. Keep in mind that since switching to PTCAS, they do receive thousands of applications vs. the 500-600 they used to receive prior to PTCAS so they may be super busy during the application cycle. UTSW is a great school and they are constantly trying to figure out best way to arrange the curriculum so that the students will succeed in their program. That being said, PT school is very difficult, but that will be true for any school you go to!

I agree with the other posts that say that you have to find the school that is the right fit for you! No matter where you go, you will be a DPT when you graduate! 🙂 Good luck with everything!!!!

Sometimes you just don't get a great vibe from a school. I applied to one program where I felt turned off from the school anytime I had to interact with the admissions folk: consistently brusque, dismissive, and not very responsive to questions. I wasn't accepted, and ultimately I felt it was for the best, as I had very positive interactions with all of the other schools I applied at.

First year (4 weeks in) UTSW student here can confirm. Undergrad is nothing compared to PT school. I love it!

Ahhhh! How are you liking it?! Feel free to message me with any questions about anything! AND GOOD LUCK!!!! 🙂

I'm sure you must had offers from other school. What let you determine to finally choose UTSW?

Well, the location of the school was a major plus for me because I didn't have to move! The other school I got into was UTMB in Galveston and would have required my husband and I to sell our house and move there. Another thing is the program is a little shorter...its 2.7 years vs a full 3 years. Now keep in mind that this means you don't really get summers off so you just go from one semester to the next. The main thing that drew me into UTSW was the therapists that I had worked with before had graduated from there and they were amazing! They had nothing but good things to say about the program so I figured it must not be that bad! 🙂

I thought the same. I shadowed with an Ortho PT in BIR and she is awesome and knowledgable, that is the major reason why I was tilted to UTSW. Well, right now is not even a good time to pick one program from the other. I should put my effort on applying to PT schools and try my best to get in more programs. Anyway, thank you very much for your input, that helps a lot 🙂)
