For those of who that have already gotten an interview from UVA, what were your stats and state of residency? I have a 3.5 and a 31 and virginia resident, haven't heard anything yet.

3.5, 36, UVA undergrad, virginia resident. Had my interview 9/12.

hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that the turnaround time from UVa is pretty amazing. had an interview 10/25 (thursday), and then got a snail mail letter on monday (10/29) with a letter dated 10/26 saying that I got accepted OOS!

Congratulations. Nice to know they're quick to respond.

why is it UVA??? Univ. of Virginia right??? .....i dont get it.

No other states do that.

UVa= University of Virginia

Va stands for Virginia, i guess it just sounds better than saying UV?

not sure if that answered your question....

That's because all other states (excluding Texas) suck ass.

wow. texas and virginia huh? heres my question

are the TX expensive at UVA football games?

probably b/c they can't use UV--since I think that would be University of Vermont.

vermont is UVM which is ANOTHER school acronym i dont like. UVM is latin for green mountains or something.....but it doesnt match up with Univ. of Vermont english translation.......lame......

Anyone interview at UVA? I know they interview extremely small groups...but it's hitting close to two weeks and I haven't heard back. Was hoping they had a fast turn-around!

hmm.. what day did you interview on exactly.. also, are you an OOS applicant?

It's better than using the same acronym as another school, like the University of Washington does. People also confuse that school with Wash U as well.

Just got waitlisted at UVA post interview which sucks. Anyone know what the waitlist movement is like? How many do they offer outright? How many come off the waitlist?

has anybody gotten an interview invite recently?

just wondering.....I'm tired of waiting to hear from them (complete almost two months...I fear that's a bad sign).

I interviewed a month or so ago and they mailed my acceptance out two days later... crazy fast.

If they are immediately interested in interviewing you, they'll send you an invite within about 4 weeks after their email acknowledging completion of your file.

:luck:

So does that mean if you dont get one within 4 weeks you wont get one? Or just much less likely?

Well, perhaps I'm being misleading.... If you were completed early (July-August), then you'll be sure to get a nod within 4 weeks. Otherwise... I don't really know what happens to you, actually. The dean of admissions said that they hand out the first batch of pre-interview rejections around Thanksgiving. Otherwise, I guess you're on hold until whenever.

However, I don't know the timeline for applicants who were completed later in the year, although I wouldn't be surprised if it's longer than 4 weeks. Dean Canterbury did say that interview spots fill up quickly, and each year they are forced to reject many well-deserving applicants just because they completed late.

Sorry, I'm being very vague and unhelpful. (Kind of like med schools themselves!) But francisco, you've got a nice collection of interviews, so congrats on them!

If nothing has changed since last year, then one can still receive an interview despite being complete for some time. I had two friends last year get interview invites in early November. One of which applied the day AMCAS opened (I distinctly remember her freaking out) and another submit in September. Both accepted. Hope exists.

yeah, I'm just getting anxious since I've been complete for a while and have not heard anything. I've got interviews at the two other VA schools, so I was just hoping to complete the trifecta, if you will.

that, and UVa is my realistic top choice.

I looked at the MSAR and I saw that VCU interviewed ~300 IS apps, EVMS had ~250, and Uva had ~200. I hope I'm not in the pile of 50 that get the cold shoulder from UVa but love from the others. 🙁

I feel exactly the same way about everything you just said. I know they take their sweet time handing those things out, but it's agonizing, especially when you're an in-stater and you feel a state school is giving you the cold shoulder. Granted, it's a ridiculously awesome state school, but still.

yeah, I guess it's a good sign I wasn't in the Thanksgiving pile of rejectees.

who knows, maybe they're mad I turned them down for undergrad?

:luck: To beachblonde and ocallag! The good news is that chances for acceptance is waaaaay higher than chances for interview. Something like 500/4000 interviewed, then 250/500 accepted. So if you get an interview, you're in pretty darn good shape! They also don't usually reject post-interview, unless you do something outrageous, like ask your interviewer out on a date (it's happened). Don't know the ratio of IS/OOS, but that's just because I'm not that anal 😀

To the OP: Sorry I've strayed off topic. I'm IS, and my stats are similar to UVA's averages, give or take a tenth of a decimal.

There's hope for me yet! I just got that email yesterday. 👍 C'mooooon in-state!

Another good thing about UVA is that they're not number ******, at least for IS. Otherwise... yeah... my stats, especially for the required courses, aren't so stellar 😀

Haha... hopefully they don't keep that information; it would not be a fun interview question.

I'm in the same position as you guys. Perhaps there was a rush of applicants complete in Oct. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

I've been complete September 25th, now past the 2month wait with nothing. I just hope I don't get a thanksgiving rejection! Show me some Instate love!

I was asked at a med school interview why I turned them down for a masters program. so they do keep that info around! eek, it was horrifying. :scared:

could you explain? you turned them down for a masters program? did you reapply after having already turned down an acceptance?

I applied to a bunch of graduate schools, and was accepted at every school I applied to. naturally, I had to turn all but one down. since I was applying to biomedical master's programs, most of them were associated with a medical school. I am now applying to medical schools (some of the same schools) and I guess they remember that I rejected them for grad school! I had no idea they would 1) know or 2) care. but apparently they do.

(and no, this is not the case with UVa...I only applied there for undergrad...)

I understand that UVA does interview invites through snail mail. For those that got invites, was it a thin or thick envelope?

large brown one

now I'm going to tell my parents to call me immediately if a large brown envelope shows up.

oh man, I'm totally get a rep on these boards for being that completely neurotic girl who's dying for a UVa interview...

(but I suppose there are worse reps a person could get)

I am totally with you beachblonde, we both need uva invites fast!

Hey HP, sorry I can't give you any useful information about the waitlist, but I can commiserate with you. UVA put me on the waitlist lightning-fast. I am kinda disappointed, because my parents are nearby in NC and I could have seen myself going there.

For those of you interested in information about the waitlist, here are some facts from their website:

- not ranked
- starts off with ~175, then diminishes to 70-80 once they actually begin to review it (late June)
- about 10-12 come off the waitlist

And here's the website: http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/internet/admissions/requirements.cfm#Questions

Scroll all the way to the bottom, under Explanations of the Alternate List

Thanks so much for the information about the waitlist, LaMusicienne. Since getting the thin waitlist letter, I've been too dispirited about UVa to check the website. Jeesh, it looks like the % of the class taken from the waitlist is tiny. Well, I guess there is no lovely Shenandoah valley in my future, at least not in the short-term. :luck: and congrats to the rest of you, and I hope you enjoy those rolling Appalachain foothills!

that may be true unless you went to undergrad at UVA and messed up your GPA, then (from what I've heard), they don't like it very much

Seems like once we're put on the waitlist..we're doomed. I'm an intl' student and definitely could've seen myself attending there.

Amen. 🙁

Sorry to interrupt but I was wondering if anyone knew about when the class was filled at Virginia in previous years. I've been busy and have not submitted my secondary, the deadline is Jan 4. I'm trying to determine if it would be a complete waste of $80 to turn it in this late in the game so any input would be much appreciated. (I'm OOS and have an acceptance to my state school already). Thanks in advance.
