UVA letter

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nope...guess they like you more than me!

Seen as they like you so much, Could you put in a good word for me, so I can get an interview? 😀

For those with acceptances from UVa, did you get an e-mail this morning telling you that you were a special applicant and they really wanted you to come? Was this just a form e-mail?

i got no email, that means they really really want you! 😀

RunMimi...

I got the same email as you... from a Dr. Canterbury. Something about how the admissions committee was so impressed with my qualities blah blah...

(Does that still make us special?)

Brian

I got my acceptance letter via snail-mail yesterday, but haven't gotten any email saying that I'm special. Then again, it being my first acceptance, I feel special anyways.

congrats on the email. I believe they are courting you. Just another feather in your cap.

Good Luck all

Yea scholarship money would be nice...but I really enjoyed the school (I'm choosing it over my acceptance at Vandy, since i noticed you had an acceptance there also)...

Yup, same one. Don't you wish they gave out scholarship money? PArticularly for a public school, its expensive!

Expensive? Potentially. Did you folks attend the financial aid session? If you qualify, you get a need based school scholarship ($10,000 in-state and $15,000 out of state) that makes it pretty affordable. I'm not sure if I qualify for the need based scholarship or not, but it definately makes it more affordable.

Good Luck.

Yeah, I got the same letter this morning. I totally thought it was going to be some offer of money, until I read further and it was just "so I'd like to personally invite you to come here" or whatever it said. Which is nice, but maybe a fistful of cash would be a good accompaniment... 😉

For those who have interviewed, how long after the "complete email" did you get contacted for an interview?

Thanks!

so when did you people send in your secondary to UVA. I wrote on the ohter link how much i wanna go to UVA, and like I said eventhough i would be out-of-state and it would cost me alot, I want to go there so bad.
and hey i think i can get the need based scholarship, so oh med school god, shine on me please. so can you tell me anything they told ya'll about how they choose people, were other people there with similar stats as ya'll or what. btw, I am from texas, but i don't talk like this, I think. so it would be cool to be your classmate.

Well, good luck to you! I'm glad to hear your excitement! I honestly have no idea how they pick students. I know people with higher MCATs and GPAs than mine from equally good schools that didn't get in and those with lower that did. So it can't be all numbers driven. I really have no idea about anyone's admission process!

TheHopeful... I second what RunMimi said. I was sitting at my UVA interview comparing notes with one of the other interviewees and we had pretty similar backgrounds. It was interesting to note that I'd gotten interviews at schools he'd been rejected at pre-secondary and I'd gotten rejected at schools he'd gotten interviews at. He already had an interview at my state school who I've heard nothing from. Basically it reinforced the idea that this is a nutty crap shoot of a process. Hold on! We're all thinkin good thoughts for you.

To answer your timeline question... I put my secondary in around late aug., got an interview invite lat sept., interviewed late oct. and got accepted early Nov. (Once you interview, they'll let you know your status within two weeks).

Again! Good Luck! And as my friend always reminds me... Breath

For those of you who recieved a special email, I recommend that you hold on to acceptance until May. One of my classmates was offered a merit scholarship ($120,000) on April even though she was accepted on Oct. I don't know whether she got the same email you guys got, but she ended up coming here instead of Columbia and UCSF. You will find out in spring.
