UVM Status

Eh, I guess I'll call here in a minute, and if I get any good info I'll post it up. Keep in mind, though, I have been complete for about 3 months now with nothin, so it may be different for those who have only been complete the 6-8 weeks.

scowdeva: I believe ladude and the others were talking about calling to find out when the final decisions will be posted for those of us that interviewed already. Last week the guy told me by the end of the week last week, but someone else was later told by the end of this week.

Also, as for UVM, they really do seem to like people that show a real interest in the school. Good luck!

Ahhhh, well that makes much more sense!! Haha, well good luck to you guys! I'm still trying to get a decision about an interview offer!

I just called and spoke with Patrick. For those of us waiting for final decisions, the date he's giving out for us too is November 20th. It could be earlier, but it might not. Apparently they need access to the AMCAS site to notify them of acceptances at the same time they notify us, which is why they can't update their status page until AMCAS is back online (apparently they're doing some kind of maintenance). Guess it may be another week guys! (FYI - UVM does not give out decisions over the phone per Patrick since it's hard to verify who they'd be speaking with.).

Ack. Thanks for the update Phoenix. UVM is my top choice/state school and I've only called once in the past month... is this not showing enough desire? I feel like it's a given that I would want to come home, but maybe that's not apparent. This wait, coupled with a mediocre interview, has me stressing uncontrollably.

yeah, looks like those of us that have interviewed and are awaiting decisions have until november 20th which is about another week. silly amcas! why cant it just work, im sure many others are anxious as well, but UVM is such a great place!

on another note, has anyone tried calling amcas to see what the delay was about?

Are other schools sending out acceptance notices even with the AMCAS site down?

phoenix or someone should start a thread telling everyone about the AMCAS glitch.

i would, but don't know any details.

yeah i do not think the glitch is system wide because other schools are definitely sending out their acceptances... also when i spoke with other admissions officers, they knew nothing about any glitch and said the system was working just like normal....

scowdeva, has your status been "under review" or "your file has been preliminarily reviewed and you are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be granted"? mine has been the latter since early september and i think that i went complete after you.

My status is the 'we are reviewing you, wait 6 to 8 weeks'. I haven't had any kind of change yet, AT ALL, since I was complete there back in August. I'm hoping this is a good thing, and not just that they forgot to look at my application!

yeah good luck to those still waiting to hear if they got an interview, the waiting after the interview is much worse tho trust me haha

all this waiting is killing me!
anyone call in to see if they would have it up by today?

I called it might be today but its not for sure. If not today it will be on monday!
Good luck everyone, waiting is killing me too!

I just called and I got the same answer. They said if not today, then check back on Monday.

Could this torture finally (almost) be over? I noticed that the admissions office closes at 4:30 EST, so we should know something within an hour if it's today.

why would it be over...do you actually believe these schools when they say something will be done at a certain time...because I certainly don't

I don't know about you all but my status page has not changed.

Mine changed today to the "we will be contacting you shortly" message. I hope I hear next week with you all. Best of luck to everyone!

I guess we should be seeing some news tomorrow :luck::luck: ... but the way things are going i wouldnt be surprised if it takes a few more days.

UVM is my #1 or #2 choice (havent completely made up my mind yet).... I loved it there as did many other people but don't let that fool you, many will withdraw when their dream school comes through.
I think they are similar to most schools with respect to withdrawals (i.e. they will end up accepting around double their class size)

I know this is a little off-topic but has anyone out there been offered an interview lately after having their status page change from "UNDER PRELIMINARY" review to being in the pool of potential interviewees? My status changed about 3 weeks ago but I have heard nothing since. I know being put in the potential pool is not a guarantee but I was wondering if UVM is still pulling from the pool.

just checked my status, no updates. haha and to be honest, im not surprised, given they need to update, they must be swamped, but i love how nice they are. i just hope they get it done soon, waiting is killing me!

anybody work up the courage to call and find out if they are updating today for sure?
I know this whole process is a waiting game, but seriously stop saying you will update on such and such day, then go back and say 'oh sorry, it will be another week'

I'm less frustrated waiting for schools that have been reviewing me for 3 months because at least they dont tell me "Well we've made a decision, but we can't tell you what is..."

Its like getting a slap in the face over and over and over...

I called last week and they said Nov. 20th. Am I still checking the status page several times a day? Of course. OCD is a complex diagnosis.... please update if anything changes. I loved Vermont. Incredible technology.

just called... all i got was "we hope to have it up by tomorrow... i cant give a precise answer as to whether it will be up today"

more waiting i suppose...

anyone else wanna try and see if they can get anything more??

im so anxious, and getting tired of them saying they should have it up by "this day" or "that day"

love the school too -- but now im just going nuts!

Isn't tomorrow a public holiday in the states?

hrmmm.... i wonder if they will really get it up by tomorrow. didnt have much better luck than anyone else who tried calling.

Vermont is definitely my #1 choice right now but I will have a hard time deciding between Rochester if I am accepted into both. The two schools are very similar in many ways. Anyway else interviewed at both Vermont and Rochester? I'd like to know which school would you prefer?

They are somewhat similar. Rochester is still using paper syllabi, whereas Vermont is all computer (COMET) which is really cool. They both use some PBL stuff and standardized patients, which is good. The hospitals are both great. Rochester is ranked higher in research (14 in primary care, 34 in research), but I think Vermont ranks higher in primary care (I forgot the stat). I believe Rochester gives more school scholarship aid for the "needy," unless you are in-state at Vermont (which I am not.) Both schools were terrific. Both areas are very cold. Can anyone think of anything else? Hope this helps.

Hard to choose. Just geographic preference. Maybe financial aid packages will enter into the decision.

UVM is ranked 7th nationally for primary care. Their new curriculum rocks!

Yeah! Vermont definitely rocks, but all this waiting does not! I called to no avail; it seems we may even have to wait until after thanksgiving!? did anyone else get that when they called?

I guess it could happen, but I'm going to be optimistic and have faith that they'll get it out before thanksgiving. That's what they told us when we interviewed, so I'm going to stick with that. It just seems like a lot longer because they tantalized us with suggestions of earlier decision dates over the past two weeks. Personally, I think there's no point in calling them until the end of the day on Nov. 20th if the decisions aren't up by then.

why do they keep giving different answers?? the 3 times that ive called since october, ive definitely been told Nov 20...

it better not be after Thanksgiving -- or else im gonna be eating my turkey and worrying about UVM!!!

Both schools have great international opportunities but I think Rochester provides more financial support for these types of programs. Vermont is ranked #7 in primary care by the way but #59 in research. They both offer early opportunities to gain clinical experience but Rochester actually have students start their ambulatory clerkship during their first year. The COMET system at Vermont looks very attractive to me. I don't know about anyone else but I think it will make life much easier for me as a student. The only drawback I find at Vermont is that the student body is not very diverse (16% minority for 2006-2007 entering class). I really hope Vermont is trying to do a better job of attracting more minority students for the new entering class.

Someone just posted that they received an interview from UVM on the official interview thread...maybe they are finally getting around to posting the recent decisions???

No change on my application status check, any luck with other people?

Just changed to OOS waitlist. Good luck, everyone!

I'm in the OOS waitlist also. Bummer. Anyone with OOS acceptance?

I remember a couple of OOS applicants got accepted last month. I'm sure some got accepted this month. Although they did say at our interview day that most OOS get waitlisted. Anyway, I posted my status in the other thread:

Yup, as expected - me too. Definitely my worst interview day (do NOT drink several cups of tea if you're incredibly caffeine-sensitive), and given the much higher bar for gaining an OOS acceptance I knew this was coming. Anyway, I loved both Loyola and UVM, but I'm from Chicago so obviously it'd be a lot easier to stay here and still have my friends and family around. Although UVM's COMET system definitely makes me drool. Congrats to those that got acceptances! :hardy:

Yikes. I got the in-state waitlist, which I hear is the equivalent to death. I am writing a letter of interest, but I don't think it will do any good. After all that waiting, it feels like there is a heavy weight pushing down on my chest.

Does anyone know the number of in-state accepted vs. matriculated? I can't find it in the MSAR. I hear there is practically no movement, but I need some form of comfort.

What an idiot I am. I could have chosen a different state for in-state residency, one with multiple schools, but chose VT because I loved it. Should have gone the other way. Ugh, guess I should start next year's application...

From USNews for Fall 2005 admissions UVM instate applicants: 59 interviewed, 40 accepted, 34 enrolled. Those are still good numbers. Keep your hopes up!

I know at least one person who got off the in-state waitlist...keep up your hope!
