I know both schools have lots of pros. But what about the cons? Any current students willing to tell me (here or on PM) what you don't like about the school or about Seattle and Tucson? Where would you go - or advise someone to go - if you got into both with low stats? Why (I'm wondering if there are things I haven't thought about)? Does being in a top school means having to work brutally hard and barely sleeping to keep up?
Thank you!

Is one of these cheaper for you to attend?

OOS/OOR in both, UW will be about $16K more in COA ($12K in tuition)

UW as in Washington or Wisconsin? I'm assuming Washington in this case.

No experince with either school but top schools don't work you to death. I go to a top 15 (MS1) and yeah it's hard, but at the end of the week I'm only needing to put in maybe 60 hrs to keep up.

Even at top schools you will still have time to do a lot of things most weeks. Just you won't be able to do everything and some people cut back on sleep to have more of a social life.

OP, wait till you are accepted at UW before stressing out about this, focus on acing your interview first! 🙂

That makes sense, but from now on I only want to go to interviews that I'm willing to accept an offer since I really loved UA.

I mean, what's not to love about that school? 😉

I know the feeling, just remember to keep an open mind! After getting accepted into UA, I'm forcing myself to give other schools an unbiased chance. You never know what's out there until you see if for yourself! 🙂
Easy said 🙂 Whenever I go to other interviews I keep thinking 'people seemed so much happier/nicer at UA' and then 'but the landscape was so brown'

You won't get into UW. Focus on a school that actually accepts non-regional/OOS applicants, and read about UW.

Do you mean bc of my low stats? Since I'm one in over 100 OOR they will interview this year to accept 30-40, are saying to be accepted I would need to be on the top 70th percentile in GPA, MCAT, etc? Thanks for your reply!

If you have an interview those won't be what holds you back.

Ignore vellez - if you have an interview you have a shot.

Please go to UWash.

Here's the most important thing to consider:

lots of rain, vs temps. in the triple digit summers. Yeah "it's a dry heat", but so is an oven!

They'll need an excuse to stay indoors and study, what better incentive is there than 115 degree heat? 😉

Constant rain is a pretty good excuse to stay in too!

In all honesty OP, go where you will be happy. Med school is brutal and theres no need to make it worse by spending 4 years in an unhappy environment. I chose undergrad based on prestige rather than where I fit in and Ive kicked myself for it every day for the last 4 years. If you felt at home at UA, go there.

UWash (UW is reserved for the one and only :hardy:) is a great school! Top 15, kick ass primary care, and it's in Seattle! I've only visited once but I loved the vibe of the city and contrary to popular belief, it did not rain a single day I was there for that entire week over the summer. I would say give it a shot, I know you may love UA now, but no harm in giving it a shot especially since UWash is pretty awesome!

Seattle is an amazing city...Tucson is the armpit of the US! Seriously, it's not even close!
