UW OR UMICH????

I am really trying to make a decision here and It would really help to get any of you guys detailed, first-hand perspectives as far as classes, faculty, social life, student bodies.....besides the weather and tuition🙂

I appreciate your feedback!

Sorry, can't offer you a perspective on those things but I do know that they are both good schools, so, I would go with the cheaper one.

What do you feel are the pluses and minuses to both? That might help people answer better. What struck you about each place at your interview? What kind of school are you looking for?

well see the thing is that both of them are really great programs and when I did interview, I had a good experience at both schools. UMich did provide lunch and give a tour as opposed to UW, but that certainly does not become the deciding factor for me....the students and faculty at both schools were very nice so that doesnt help. I have been to ann arbor a few times, where Ive only been to UW once...which was for my interview and I was pretty much in and out of the city.

Im torn between the two. I always hear how UM students are so proud of their school and always enthusiatic about it on their posts. I guess I never get the same from UW students so idk about that aspect......

well I don't know anything about UW but I can tell you about UMich. I think two major things you would want to consider are the curriculum and the cost. UM is a VERY expensive school (especially if you are an out of state student) and ann arbor is an expensive place to live.
UM is very research oriented and research is required at UM but it isn't required at many pharmacy schools. If you really wanna do research, then you should compare the research program at UM to UW. If you want to be a community pharmacist, then it may not be worth it for you to go through all this extra effort in the curriculum, because the UM curriculum is much more intensive and tougher than other schools...I hope that helps...

UW- it's an amazing school that offers tuition waivers so that out-of-state professional students only have to pay in-state tuition after one year. Also, think about how amazing the medical and nursing schools are. The pharm school works in collaboration with 'em. Plus, Seattle has some of the best hospitals.

really?!!! you dont have to pay out of state tuition after a year? Is there a link to that information? if so, please post it...I would really appreciate it.

its still so hard to decide... both have great programs, hospitals....I do know UMich students take so much pride in their school, im not sure if thats the same with UW students, although I do think UW is a top notch school too and I really had a good feel for it when I was there.

But compared to seattle, I thought ann arbor was cheaper right? as far as curriculum, being that UW is also on a quarter system, it is also intensive as well and I am leaning more towards going into the business/management areas of pharmacy...still undecided🙁

this is a link to the UW pharm.d. brochure. see page 17 under residency waiver. Also, think about how amazing the city of Seattle is! You can't beat that!

Ann Arbor probably is cheaper than Seattle (but I have never been to Seattle, i'm just guessing). If you care about costs, then you should look at the tuition at both schools. Are you a Michigan resident? If not, you will be paying a boat load in tuition.

and as far as your interest in buisness/management....hmmm...i know that UM doesn't offer pharmD/MBA or any other joint buisness program right now...I don't know about UW

It looks like you have some thinking to do and decide for yourself which school will be affordable to you and which curriculum best suits your needs and your goals. My main reasons for wanting to go to michigan are 1. location (i live 20 minutes away) and 2. i really really want to do research and michigan is a great research school.

good luck in making your decision...

Agreed UMAX, i've always wanted to visit seattle, it seems so full of culture and excitement. I don't know if you guys ever watched the tv show Frasier but i used to watch it all the time and wonder about how exciting it would be to live in seattle..😛

I heard there is a greater percentage of depressed people in that region of the country than anywhere else. Damn that seasonal affective disorder.

Also, Grey's Anatomy is takes place in Seattle! Think of how exciting your life could be!

You are so right! Seattle is beautiful, attractive, and amazing ONLY in the summer.

However! The University of Washington School of Pharmacy is superior that their students establish strong relationship with each other through TONS OF activities. I meant , man ! you just envy their wonderful friendship among each class.

And, do keep in mind, Washington is in the front line actively advocating the profession of pharmacy, it's the most desirable state to be a pharmacist. Washington pharmacists first initiated immunization program, Physician-Agreement is approved here. Also, UW Medical Center is the top one primary care hospital!

Frasier is a great show! But the show was filmed in LA and literally took place in three settings: Frasier's apartment, Cafe Nervosa, and the radio station. So it hardly gave one a glimpse of Seattle.

You'd be surprise how expensive Ann Arbor is and shocked at all the run down homes/apartments you get for the hefty price.

Do what feels good to you, not others.

tosiyemi: U got a man? Go to where your man is/is not!!!!! You decide! If he gets on your nerves, go far away, if you love him so much and don't want to be away from him then go to Michigan 🙂. Just make sure if u do go far away you know you'll be paying most of the money to fly to see him.... booo.

This is the worst advice ever! Don't base your decisions because of your boyfriend or some guy. I've done this before and it is the dumbest thing ever because one day you guys break up (as couples often do) and you find yourself wondering how different your life would have been if you hadn't planned it around the bastard.

WARNING: I am a bitter, cynical man-hater...I know...

Actually come to think of it, you're right. I know about a few UM pharmacy students who live in this apartment building/rat hole that is very close to campus. It's got five bedrooms and they are paying $5,000 a month.....That's $1,000 a month per person...JUST FOR RENT.....insanity...

I didn't know that......they never really have any cool shows taking place in michigan...the settings for most popular shows are always NYC or cali or FL or seattle or chicago....nothing exciting happens in michigan...lol

Rosanne takes place in Michigan! I love that show!

In all seriousness- you should prob think of where you want to practice after graduation, too. I mean if you want to practice in Seattle or WA then you should go to UW and vice versa.

Hash Bash once a year vs. BC Bud whenever you want - go to UW! j/k

Home improvement was in michigan. I loved that show. It was a classic.
