I've noticed a strange phenomenon: As I work towards the end of both qbanks, my Uworld scores are steadily improving while my Kaplan scores are getting worse. anyone else experienced this? I wonder what it means. a conspiracy of some kind, no doubt.

Well I like both and have gotten fairly similiar scores on both but what's annoying with UW is that you can't open up an explorer window to google things when you're reviewing the answers.

I've had a fairly similar flip, but I noticed that if I do Qbank for a while, then my UW scores will take a hit. Personally, I think it's the way that you have to approach each qbank. With UW, I have to sit and think through the answer choices to make the connection that they want me to make. Qbank on the other hand, I have to rack my brain to figure out which miniscule detail they're looking for. Just my $0.02 though.

you know, i've heard this sentiment echoed by a thousand different people, and so far, i don't get it. now, i've only started world yesterday and done about 100 questions, but i already been asked about several head-scratchingly obscure facrtoids (say, the association between vitamin A and measles.)

i've gone through 70% of qbank, and maybe it's too soon for me to pass any judgement on usmleworld, but it doesn't seem to be the dramatic breath-of-fresh-air everyone is making it out to be.

I have never used Kaplan Qbank, but I think what people (including myself) like about UW is the explanations. Sure, some of the questions are BS, or require ridiculous leaps in logic, but the explanation encompass multiple areas, and really integrate the knowledge. It also helps you approach 2nd order questions better, which I have heard is about half of Step 1 questions. Having never used Kaplan, I don't know how well they do this.

scored my first >90 in uworld today. Such a cool feeling that I had to share it with someone. why not the whole sdn community? i wish i could show the step1 people that I got a 90 on a uworld test. maybe they'd waive step1 entirely. that'd be heavenly.

as for dr. pink's comments on uworld, i totally agree. their explanations are spot on. plus the leaps of logic are a pain in the ass, but it's good to get in the habit of thinking that way.
