Anyone do Uworld twice and see a correlation between their new average and their NBME's or actual step 1 score? Even though you do remember some or most I believe there has to be an increase in your score.

I am doing uworld for the second time right now, and my cumm avg increased 10 points. However my NBME average did not increase. NBME is best predictor of step score.

kinda same for me.

i have 300 "incorrect' and 300 "flagged" q's left

was wondering if i should just use the time to re-read FA or maybe even Gojan transcript instead

thoughts?

Ya, your best correlator is NBME and 1st time through uworld. During my 2nd time through uworld I went from 70s to 90s yet my nbme score didn't improve that much.

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I have 600 some odd questions left. When you are doing a second pass, are you just randomly doing timed blocks? Is there a way that you don't see the same question more than twice?

what if you use UW system based the first time, and then the 2nd time random? whats the correlation then?

Yes mostly everyone uses timed random. I believe there is a way for you to not see the same question, that is if your subscription is 6 months or longer you can go to the Utilities option on the top and click RESET. This reset should change some if not a good chunk of the questions and you can retest yourself.

I'm sure that the result will be most likely poor to pretty much the same average, with no significant change in the NBME.

I don't think that there's really any way of telling, everyone is different and I suspect some people recognize questions on the second pass moreso than others. I'd guess that NBMEs are going to be your best bet to get an actual idea of where you stand. But, I also used this approach, doing systems in UW first, then reset and all random. I think my average on my first pass was around a 74%, now on all random it's an 84%. My practice tests have been in the 240s, 250s. Not sure if this helps, but at least it's something to compare to.

okay great, havent started my 2nd pass yet, still working through my first pass, and my correlation is right around yours so far so hopefully my nbme's will be similar! When did you take your fist nbme btw?

To echo this, I think it totally depends on when you started doing UWorld. I started doing while we still hadn't covered like a third or more of the second year material. My first pass average wound up being about 64% but my last 10-15 blocks I did just before and just after finals time averaged in the low-mid 70s (I think like a 72 or 73 if I remember right). My practice exam scores, so far, seem to be right about where LaCroix's are despite having a much lower first pass UWorld average.

For what it's worth, my second pass UWorld average is currently sitting at an 85%.

There probably is a decent correlation between second-pass UWorld and exam scores for a very specific population. That is, for people who do UWorld a second time and mostly answer questions based on new information they have learned from UWorld (as opposed to just hitting the answer they thought they missed the first time around), there probably is a decent correlation with score. That said, I could not tell you: A) whether I, let alone you, are in that specific population or B) what that correlation might be.

how long does it take for you guys to normally get through a block with annotations? it takes me fcking forever
I started out reading all the answers and I had the same experience you're describing. It was a massive waste of time for me and it infuriated me that I was spending time reading explanations I already knew.

What I soon transitioned to is what I do now. I flag questions while doing blocks for the following reasons: 1) I am unsure and want to go back to it or 2) I know/think I know the answer but I'm unsure about the details or am not sure I could explain the answer well.

When I'm done, I first hit the "incorrect" tab and review those. Most of them are also questions that I marked. If it's a stupid mistake or a testing error I just take a mental note, kick myself and move on. If it's a concept I'm not clear on, I add a few bullet points to a running word file. After this, I do the same thing with "marked questions," skipping over the ones that were incorrect because I already reviewed them.

This method will usually take me 30-40 minutes to review if I'm diligent about it and honest with myself.

Do I think I might be missing some things in the explanations to my correct answers that UWorld could be teaching me? Yeah, probably, but it's not worth the opportunity cost of sorting through all the explanations of **** I already know just to find those tidbits. That is simply not the best use of my time.

Overall, my suggestion is to just review things you got wrong or are unsure on.

hmmm, im thinking about a word document, that sounds pretty good. That way you can print it out and cut and paste if need be

I took my first NBME (15) about 2wks after completing my first UW pass. I've taken one just about every Saturday since then.

Once again, sloop and I have similar experiences/tactics. My first pass of reading explanations and annotating into FA took about 4hrs/46q. Eventually it was down to around 3hrs/46q just from added proficiency, but it was still taking a long time.

Second pass I'm doing it a bit differently. I don't have to annotate FA, since I've already done that. What I do is read all of the explanations (even the ones I know pretty well) and I make flashcards on Quizlet for any information I don't have down solid. This includes little stuff in explanations for wrong answers, etc. I use the Quizlet app on my phone to go through those flashcards on down time or when I can't do anything else. I've got about 1350 so far. I'm sure that I won't have a chance to review them all before my test, but just making the cards and having to convert the information into questions is a layer of studying in itself. I'm sure I'll remember a couple of small things from it, anyway.

Anyway, I still spend a large portion of my day on UW. I feel like the explanations are super high yield. If there's stuff you're seeing over and over again on UW, it's stuff that shows up over and over again on the test. It's worth it to have those topics down cold.

UW is pretty universally touted as tremendously high yield for S1. I don't think you can really go wrong putting the hours in.

4th year here. I took step 1 last year obviously and in all honesty I did NOT see an increase in my NBMEs with 2nd pass.
Now everyone says to do Uworld 2x so I did it but will it increase your score substantially probably not (maybe by 2-3 points).
Looking back I wish I had gone through FA and Pathoma multiple times instead of doing Uworld 2x but that's just my opinion.

UW blocks any clipboard functions when a test is open.

No, you may see the same question twice, unless you purchased 1 year and reset it.

A lot of people fall into their trap of making you think you have to buy at least a 6 month subscription in order to reset/efficiently go through the questions twice and not see certain questions more than twice. I just mark every question after I review a set. Once I complete the first pass, I'll start the second pass making random sets of marked questions, removing questions from my marked pool after each set. Sure, I won't have fresh new stats generated by the system, but I don't see much of a benefit from that anyway. If I really want a % correct for the second pass, I can use a calculator.

Yes it does take forever. After my first pass, it took me about 3 hrs/block+annotations during the beginning and towards the middle/end I ended up catching speed finishing in 2 hrs/block+annotations.
