I vote for all of you to call and find out. I was so so nervous that I could feel my voice shaking when I asked to find out my status, but Brooke in admissions is really nice. I am glad that I called, even though waitlist means more waiting!
But #12, buddy--that's like 'in the cylinder.' If I were you I'd start house-hunting.
Ha! I know, #12 is pretty much an acceptance (I hope this year isn't any different from past years). I'm super-excited, don't get me wrong! And I already live here in Seattle, but house-hunting may have to start happening. My significant other has been talking about buying a townhome, so we'll see how that goes.

Maybe different for the MD....for me it's Apr 19-22, this is for the MSTP. Thought the MD had the second look at the same time because apparently I'll be doing some stuff with the MD students..... Oops.

I am really quite surprised that I am #7 on the alternate list as an OOS applicant. However, I think I'm kind of a "pseudo" oos because I went to undergrad here in Seattle (not UW, Seattle University) and have stayed here since I graduated in 2005. So I have actually been living in Washington for around 6 years, but I never changed my residency status so I am still a resident of New Mexico. I think the fact that I will most likely be an in state resident by the time I matriculate could have made a difference. I also have an interest in working with the latino and queer populations as a physicain and I have done a lot of volunteer and activism work within these two communities.
I don't think I will be jumping up and down for joy until I actually get accepted. I hope this year is the same as all the other years as far as accepting people off the alternate list. I wish all of the rest of you the very best!
ps. i am really close to curing cancer though 😉
I was in NY today and didn't have internet access all day... only to get to no emails and realize this after the admissions office closed... agggghhhhhh... at least I am not the only one that is in the dark... but seriously.... I am going crazy here!

Someone earlier on this thread mentioned that (s)he (perhaps Rising Sun?) had called the admissions office and been told that some e-notices would go out on Monday, but that most would go out on Tuesday. I think I'm remembering that correctly. Just go back over the last couple of pages of this thread to verify it. Let's hope that it's true.
by this I meant that if your status changed today it appears to be in connection with some type of good news. I can't say for sure, it may have to do more with when you interviewed and how soon they got to reviewing your file but there have been many people posting on here saying their status hasn't changed yet and those who did notice a status change heard good news. I am just speculating here and may be completely off base. Again good luck all!!!!
I was told by admissions that most go out on Monday and some go out early tuesday morning. If no email by tuesday afternoon, then either rejected or waitlisted. Just check the status page or call in.

Hey, buddy, I'm so sorry to hear that. Damn frustrating process. I hope that UCLA or Stanford come through for you.
First off, I want to congratulate all those that either got acceptances or waitlists today. I know that UW is a great school and you must be proud. With that being said, today brought me a lot of disappointment. After waiting for emails most of the morning, I called Brooke only to learn that I was flat out rejected.
This came as a big surprise to me because I thought that my interview went really well at UW and I felt like I was a fairly competitive applicant. I was expecting to make the waitlist. I do have a back up school (Jefferson in Philly) and am waitlisted at Tufts and Sinai, but UW came as a bit of a shock. I really wanted a chance to prove myself and attend my hometown school. Now, I am debating whether or not to apply again next year to give UW another shot...🙁
For those of you that haven't heard today...give the office a call tomorrow. Knowing (regardless of the outcome is much better) than waiting anxiously to find out. Best of luck to all and thanks for the support throughout.

I'm right there with you, buddy. Same thing happened to me. I feel so defeated; this has been my first choice since I started college. I turned down an acceptance at another school last year to give it another go just to get rejected post-interview. Sucks. Good luck with your other schools. I'm still waiting on UCD cause private schools are expensivo
sooooo sorry doc206 and mr.belding...and everyone else i failed to mention. I'm super bummed b/c UW was beyond my first choice. like I woulda moved tomorrow for that school. the program is amazing and has endless opportunities. damn. i'm oos so it'd be a really bad move to wait another year b/c i might not even get a 2ndary.
Well, I'll just add myself to the "flat-out rejected" list. I was in the operating room all morning at harborview with the burn residents watching surgeries, in hopes of assuaging my nervousness about the process. I couldn't wait any longer and at 1pm went straight to the admissions office and Brooke said, "you won't be asked to be a part of this years class". Big disappointment, as my interview went well, and was my last hope for a med school this year.
So, as I pack my bags for a 11 day medical mission to rural honduras beginning tomorrow (well, technically today), the extra MCAT book from Kaplan is an upsetting addition and extra weight on my back for the trip...

I want to give a big congratulations to dreambig, FizbanZymogen (so you are dropping your acceptance to USUHS then?), angeljj, and everyone else accepted or placed on the ranked waitlist. 👍 I am #10 on the ranked list, and all day yesterday it felt unreal because I had completely given up on UW (I felt I had a terrible interview). I look forward to seeing everyone at UW in the fall (unless for some reason there is no waitlist movement this year😱 ).

For those who have been rejected, I am really sorry and wish you best of luck at other schools this year and your reapplication cycles. I just can't figure out this wasteful and long application process, even for those few who do get accepted in their first choices. If I can avoid it, I would not go through this again -- so as RisingSun said, I would take any other option available this year if there is one.

I second that. I struggled mightily with this notion when I thought that the only school that was going to accept me was the one that I had ended up despising for its location and feeling ambivalent about for its curriculum and rotation opportunities. I finally decided that I would go anyway. Unless you have a really compelling reason to believe that your application will be wildly better next year, or you simply know that you would absolutely hate your life for the next four years at the school that has accepted you, I don't think that it's worth the risk. For what its worth.

I'm sorry to hear that, Leesh. I don't think you've told us whether you have other acceptances to fall back on. If you're still following this thread, will you be going elsewhere or reapplying next year?
To anyone thinking about turning down an acceptance to reapply to UW, DON'T DO IT!!
Last year I only applied to a few schools, figuring I'd get some love from UW, and didn't get in anywhere, waitlisted at one. So I asked Dr. Samson to write me a letter on how to improve my application and it proved to be completely useless. At least I figure it was completely useless because I did exactly what he said and I was still flat out rejected this year. He said that all of my scores were more than adequate (3.95 GPA, 31 MCAT) and that I had a lot of service (2 yr LDS mission to Chile, thus being fluent in Spanish, 1 1/2 years interpreting in a free clinic for migrant workers, and various other leadership positions).
Then he continued to say that "other than [my] father being a physician my medical experience is rather superficial and don't have a good understanding of the medical field." I guess the year and a half I spent at the free clinic didn't count for anything, because not only was I directly involved in the doctor-patient relationship, thus shadowing numerous primary care docs by virtue of interpreting, it was also time spent serving an "underserved population." On top of this I had shadowed other physicians and attended a number of surgeries. But I guess that wasn't enough somehow.
So this year I got a job as a research technician at a private lab doing preclinical research on medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Preclinical research = animal testing, so I haven't been practicing medicine on humans but I do care for the animals, draw bloods, am the anesthetist during surgeries as well as functioning as the OR tech during surgery, take x-rays and lots of other stuff I wouldn't be able to do on humans without certifications. I have learned a huge amount about the science of medicine from this job, but since there's no patient interaction I figured I'd better do something else. So I've been volunteering at a hospice since September, visiting patients and just chatting with them is about all I can do since I don't have any certifications. Nevertheless, it's still serving another underserved population, the elderly. So I figured this along with discussing and reading up on the field everyday here at work would be more than enough to get me over the hump. I felt my interview went fairly well, I had thought a lot about the types of questions I knew they would be asking so I was well prepared. I knew my answers most likely wouldn't be in line with their own personal views, as I am conservative and most academics, especially on the Left Coast, are not, but I had well constructed arguments and stuck to the facts and issues.
Then I called yesterday only to find out that I was flat-out rejected. This, obviously, pissed me off a whole lot and I cannot understand it. Now I truly believe the most important words in Dr. Samson's letter to me last year were "other than your father being a physician." It could be coincidence but my father has been unable to find a physician in his large Spokane clinic who has had a child accepted to UW. There are plenty who have been rejected, but none accepted. And it's even more ridiculous that this guy discounts my exposure to medicine via my father because UW has asked him to be part of their clinical faculty and to have residents rotate with him. So it's okay for others to learn medicine from him, but not his own son apparently.
Luckily this year a number of other schools have deemed me fit to be a part of their class and I'm still hoping to get in the school that I actually liked the best, even over UW other than price and location.
I'd be interested to know how many of those reading this board have a parent who is a physician and what your fate was.

You've done a lot and I imagine that it seems like all of your efforts have been a waste of your time, but I am sure that you got a lot out of your experiences and broadened your perspective, and you'll be a better doctor for it. I have a very similar story to you, and my father is also a physician in Spokane. I have heard for some time that doctors kids, especially from the east side don't have a chance. I have been flat out rejected again, and Dr Samson's "advice" for improvement has meant nothing. I have completed everything he said and still nothing but rejected. I would have even felt better about the hopeless unranked waitlist after all this.
Something doesn't seem right about our experiences. I understand that the process is competitive but come on, I have heard way too many stories of Spokane doctor's kids who are more than qualified for admission having to go elsewhere for medical school.
