I never checked my application status on line, but I assume that it changed. I received an e-mail at 2:59 today from Pat Fero (but on behalf of Dr. Werner Samson) with the subject heading, "Univ of Wash. Application Status." It is clearly a form letter, and begins as follows.
Please do not alter the subject line whenever you respond to an email
from the UWSOM. All email responses are directed by subject line.
Dear Mr. XXX:
Congratulations! You have been selected to enter the University of
Washington School of Medicine in the fall of 2007. This year's
applicant pool continues to be very competitive and this invitation to
join the class attests to our confidence in your accomplishments --
present and future.
It goes on to talk about orientation and the criminal background check (which costs $75 this year).
I don't know why I found out today instead of next week, but I did have a very unusual interview season, as some of you already know. I interviewed back in November, but was then called back in late January for a follow-up interview in early March. Apparently there had been a divergence of opinion on my candidacy at the excom meeting in January. The format of my second interview was identical to that of my first interview, though the questions were all different, of course. I did not get the impression that they were looking for clarification on any one thing in particular. It was just another UW interview. My chief interviewer the second time around was Dr. Samson (the dean of admissions). If I had to hazard a guess, I might speculate that they were already very close to a decision back in January, so maybe my case was easier to decide when it came up again on Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Perhaps it wasn't a matter of comparing me with the other people in the pool (since that had already been largely done), but rather of deciding whether I had successfully allayed any earlier worries that they may have had. That is pure speculation, of course.
I'm going to feel bad for posting today if no one else hears anything until next week. But maybe I was just a weird case with weird results.

You shouldn't feel bad! Celebrate this weekend! You deserve it and if I were in your shoes... I would be living it up!

You do not need to wait to receive your letter in the mail to find out the final decision. You can always call the office and find out. That's how I found out last year.

I dont think I'm brave enough to call. I'll just wait for Monday afternoon/Tuesday Morning. I couldnt imagine getting bad news via phone. Even though it'd be cool to get GOOD news on the phone---> I've always wanted an opportunity to be on the phone and scream w/ joy...like they do in the movies.
yeah, screaming with joy at a computer screen does seem less eventful (although good in it's own way). anyone else aimlessly checking their status page even though they know nothing's going to happen until monday?
i checked mine just for giggles. nope, nothing. i don't think i even want to check my email on monday and tuesday. ick

I just checked my status page (not thinking that anything would have changed yet). Action has been taken on my file, and I should receive a letter 👎 by the 9th, it says. I think that I might just give the office a call and find out my status so that I can get it over with and finally have peace of mind. I'll write again later.
Don't worry about the fact that they said "letter," Rising Sun. It doesn't necessarily mean that you won't be getting the good-news e-mail. I went back and checked my status page, and it said the same thing. In fact I did get a letter one day after the acceptance e-mail with some paperwork and information in it. Stay positive, bro.

Ok, so I've officially started obsessively checking my email now. I'm on campus at UW, so I'm considering walking right down there and finding out my status, but I'm not brave enough to get rejected and keep a straight face in front of the whole admissions office. Ha!

edit: It just changed in the last 3 minutes... says action has been taken and I'll get a letter by 4/9... I bet they are just changing them in alphabetical order.

Maybe, but mine had changed by 7:15 AM (I was already awake and thought I would just check just in case), and I'm definitely not at the start of the alphabet.

she found out last week my mom said, but i think she interviewed later in the interview season.

Well, I finally built up the courage to call... I was not accepted or put on the alternate list ... bummer, so I guess I am off to Pennsylvania.

Finally worked up the nerve to call...talked to Brooke...and I'm on the ranked waitlist! *dies*
Just called. I'm #10 on the ranked waitlist. I guess that is a pretty good sign, but it's not official so I am gonna have to wait for an official word. Apparently, everyone within #14 has been accepted since 1992. I think those are good odds.

there was a shooting on campus this morning--maybe this has something to do with their absence.
Can anyone explain what happened with the shooting? I am in NC and I don't get the news here. I heard it might have been a murder-suicide. Anyone know anything else? Thanks.
That's about as much as I know here. On the seattle times front page they keep updating the story. They say 6 shots were fired and it occurred in an office in gould hall on one of the upper floors. No real specifics have been released yet.
it took place in the gould building (architecture). apparently the shooting took place inside the building. officials suspect (like you said) a murder-suicide involving a woman and a man; it's unclear what role each played at this point. the weapon was found at the scene.
