Not that it will change much during this application season, but next year (2008) they are starting a new WWAMI site in Spokane for 20 washington residents. Also, in the near future, students will be able to complete the entire 3rd and 4th years in spokane which would only leave a second year missing. My own personal opinion is that it may be possibe at that point to create a separate branch of UW in spokane for a much larger class by adding a second year....who knows.

by the way, I am a first year at UW and interveiwed in november and didn't get accepted to any schools until the very end of march. it is a long wait, but hang in there. if you got accepted somewhere else be grateful, if not try again next year.

And do you think UW has a pretty good idea of which applicants will get an acceptance beforehand, even though they interview so many people--many of whom presumably don’t meet at least one, or more, of their numeric “cutoffs”? No one knows the answer to this, obviously, but I’m curious about what you all think. If you must, credible anecdotes only please.

Good numbers will always help, but i can say that UW is not a "numbers *****." there is good spread in our class as far as numbers go. I for one was accepted from the "pool" after the last ADCOM meeting with numbers that were almost exactly at their average for accepted applicants.

I called and they said they will release decisions as early as Monday, but most likely Tuesday. If you do not receive an email on Monday or Tuesday it means you have not gotten in and you will receive a rejection letter in the mail. I agree, 100 spots for Washington residents is sort of absurd.

The numbers that get bandied about are always the same: 25% transcript (grades, courses, major, school); 25% MCAT; 50% interview and other intangibles (essays, LORs, experiences). I doubt that these elements are rigorously quantified and plugged into a rigid formula, but supposedly that's how the various criteria for the final decision are weighted.

I spoke with Brooke today. She said that there are more than 400 WA residents in the pool, and approximately 30 WA seats left to be given out this week. She also said that there are generally 20 ranked waitlist spots, of which most are usually granted acceptance. So I figure that we have an approximately 50/400 chance, or 1/8 chance in getting accepted these next few days. For me, that was really depressing to hear. I didn't realize that the "pool" was more like an ocean.😱

That is so disappointing to hear that there are so many left in that pool and not too many spots left open! Ah well, I've already been preparing myself for the worst...that way if an acceptance comes I'll be even more ecstatic. Good luck to everyone in enduring this week's waiting!

I was told that only if you are accepted will you receive an email Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Everyone else will receive a letter in the mail.

Does anyone have any cool plans for celebrating in the event of good e-news on M or T? Does anyone have any interesting plans for lamenting in the event of an unhappy letter on T or W? I personally plan to go with the familiar wailing and gnashing of teeth in the latter case, but I just don't know about the former. Maybe the lucky among us who receive the golden ticket should meet for a celebratory beer.

👍 CONGRATULATIONS! I know a couple of people there, and I think it sounds like a great school. I applied, but was not invited to interview. 🙁 Now you know that you're going somewhere, even if UW doesn't come through, and it's somewhere cool to boot.

I'll take an educated guess. The ratio of OOS interviews to OOS spots available has been the same each year for the last several years. If that is meaningful and not just a coincidence, and if the number that you've cited (11) is the total number available and not just the total number remaining, then they've interviewed 69 OOS people for the 11 OOS spots available this year. And unlike the IS folks, a good number of OOS people turn them down, so they have to make more offers to fill those 11 spots than you might think. Judging once again by the pattern of recent years, probably about 30 offers would need to be given to get 11 matriculants, though this number could fluctuate quite a bit since it depends on who takes them up on their offer and who decides to go elsewhere. Even if these numbers are not right on the money, your chances are clearly good.

I was told by the admissions dept that acceptances are given as emails and both rejections and waitlists are given out as regular mail.

I can only hope. UW is my TOP choice school. Ah! these last few days are going to go by soooooooooo slowly. Any ideas on how we can speed up the process??

Also, for all of the OOS people, did you interview with the office of multicultural affairs? How did that go? Do you know how much of a say they have in the admissions committee?

Grazie... wasn't sure which you were referring to. At my interview, a student I spoke with said there were only a few OOSers in his class, so I thought 9 acceptances could be possible.

That makes me much happier than 9 acceptances. Maybe I do have a chance...

i'm sorry, i wasn't very clear. 15 oos people matriculated so they probably offered more spots.

I'm a Washington resident, so I haven't taken any of the OOS slots.

I'll be checking this thread until 5-ish today to see if anyone else gets the good news before the weekend, and then I'll pick it up again on Monday for the final hurrah. I'm rooting for you all. I have to say that I almost feel guilty about withdrawing from UNC now. Is that weird?
