Anyone know the typical proportion of accepted vs. hold vs. rejected applicants following the interview? At my interview I got the impression that the majority are put on hold but I don't remember any specifics being given...

Sorry, I've never heard of any specific numbers other than generalities that are thrown around.

i sent an update/interest letter via email a couple weeks ago, and got off the waitlist a few days ago (the day before the financial aid emails went out). i think i got in because of the letter imo.

I'm guessing you mean you were taken off hold (continued review). When were you originally put on hold?

whoops yeah you're totally right, i was on hold since mid-october i think. and then a series of emails monthly telling me to update the school, etc., and then the fast turnaround when i emailed an update letter... i think uw just wants to know if you're really interested.

Congratulations! And thanks for the info.

Do you plan on attending UW, or the other Washington?

Has anyone still not received anything in the mail?

I hope this helps:
I interviewed on a Tuesday. On Friday evening I received 2 emails from my interviews saying I was voted in, and I would get official notice soon. Monday, my status page said, "action taken XX date, will received letter XX date", and 2 days later I got the email. 3 days after that I got the packet. good luck to those waiting...:luck:

Well, Seattle's definitely a great city and the research and clinical opportunities available are pretty top-of-the-line. At the same time, St. Louis as a city is not my favorite. Can't really speak much for Wash U, though. But I'm sure it's a great school 😉

Has anyone else heard back regarding an acceptance after being put on hold?

i have been getting the "still under consideration" email since november...
i thought they are having meeting last week and this week (according to their interviewing calendar) but i haven't heard from them... my status page says decision was made on the 1st and i should get a mail by feb 8th.....

This freakin' thread is swamped with people because UW places 90% of their applicants on hold. They call it rolling admissions, but it's as far from that as can be.

I interviewed there 3 years ago and got accepted 7 months later. I had already given up on them, paid my deposit at a new school, and signed a lease on my new apartment by then. 7 months is a joke. They should really get their act together.

I hear the rest of the school isn't as bad as the admissions department, though. So it's a solid choice once you've been accepted. That's difficult for me to say being that I'm a coug.

Good luck all.

i got rejected today....

after 3 months of hold............

has anyone gotten the acceptance packet yet after having received an email about an acceptance in the past week?? i'm still waiting on mine, don't know if i should email to hold my spot or not...

Sorry to hear it NEPats--I hope that another school grabs you up. 🙂

thanks guys..

i was from the east.... i think i'm heading back to the east again..

good luck for those of you got in!

Yet to receive anything...e-mail or letter which they said should be coming by yesterday. Should I call?

I think it says that if you don't receive it by X date, then you should contact them. I'm not completely certain, but it would make sense for you to.

Wasn't there an EXCOM meeting on Friday? Anyone on hold hear anything?

thin-lettered. What reasons did they give for you guys?

they gave no reason...i can tell it's just a generalized letter for everyone who got rejected....except that the names changed..

they did said you can set up an appointment with dr. teiz(sorry, forgot how to spell) after 4/15 if you're curious on why you got rejected.....

Really? Mine seemed very specific. I'll quote some select passages.

"The Admissions Committee felt that your application fell into the "not ready" category..."more experiences in the world at large...additional exposure to the practice of medicine...a better understanding of the field of medicine"

I'm sorry for your thin letter--I hope that you have better luck elsewhere.

On the bright side, I guess it is good that you get your feedback early so if you are interested in applying again you can start right on the areas that they want you to improve.

Part of what's hard about waiting is not knowing where UW feels your application is weak and not being able to make improvements until April or May...

Next excom meeting coming up this Wednesday!

Pretty soon we'll all learn our fate, seeing as how they're meeting twice a week from here on out.

Looking forward to some sort of resolution.

Hey PJ--I don't see EXCOM meetings on Weds on the schedule? I assume you have an inner source?

If they are doing that many meetings they must have lots of people on hold to sort through...

Maybe you're looking at the wrong month? It says there's a meeting on Feb. 27th.

I see now! Was looking at the actual days that said "EXCOM" not just the gray boxes!

I may be mistaken, but I believe these mid-week EXCOMs are solely for the WAMI states they are working with. This friday however will be the next "3 week interval" meeting where some of us might hear something new.

Sadly however, we shouldn't be at all surprised or shocked if we have to wait til March 31st. Best to approach it that way, and if you hear sooner, that's great!

I'm pretty sure most of us will hear sometime in March. It's still pretty early to hear anything from the hold pile.

However, I don't think that the excom meets only for the WAMI state that's interviewing. I was put on hold after a meeting in January that was part of a WAMI-week. But, one thing we both agree on is we probably won't hear much yet.

I received a "continued" hold status from one of those meetings.

I've been in the "competitive" pool since November and the suspense is starting to drive me insane.

Does anyone know if the UW considers letters of intent?

Mine said the same thing in the first paragraph, which I am willing to accept (besides the experiences at large part). However, the second paragraph went onto take personal shots at me. They basically called me an uneducated, bigotted hick. I am not sure what prompted that besides my attending a certain Christian University and when asked what I liked to do I said my favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing and my favorite movie was Patton. I am especially surprised by their accusing me of not knowing about other cultures. My secondary essay is full of examples of working with the latin populations in my hometown and I speak three languages fluently. Perhaps they didn't like my background (HickMD). I also addressed the need of healthcare to the poor, but I didn't agree with the idea of implementing universal healthcare. Maybe that set them off. Anyway, I don't mind being rejected, but it is evident that UW showed a total lack of class with my letter as well as during the interview day. Oh well, I will take one of my other four choices... maybe they rejected me because I am arrogant.

PJ-

I don't know if this is your first time through, but in past years (and my experience) it is probable that most everyone in the wait pool will find out following the final excom meetings. There's a reason those last three days...there are a boatload of people to evaluate from the course of the year.

Also, if you look at the calendar, there have been NUMEROUS supposed EXCOM meetings over the past two months, and I have received only 2 emails saying "your still in the hold pool". Both of which followed the 3 week friday EXCOM intervals. If we are to be evaluated this week, I'd put money on it being Friday.

However, after looking at the calendar, they also separately list the EXCOM in designated colors, which may be a different meeting altogether. So, there are too many ways to interpret the calendar, as well as leaving open the possibility that it just may be flat wrong.

I'm not arguing anything here either, just stating my thoughts. Having been in the pools since November (for the second straight year), I am patiently waiting until the final EXCOM meetings... but again, if I hear sooner, I won't complain, unless of course they send me correspondence through snail mail, which is never good news.

For everyone else reading this, keep an eye on your status page as well. If it says "Action has been taken"...a decision HAS been made, and it is safe to say that if you don't receive an email confirming acceptance, likelihood is that you may be soon getting rejected, which sucks, and I know, because I have been there before. If it simply says Application is Complete, keep waiting....

Best of luck to everyone...we'll all be doctors soon enough 🙂

HickMD -

Seriously? I have a suspicion that you may be exaggerating or perhaps mis-interpreting what they wrote. If you're comfortable, I'd be interested to know what they actually wrote that you found so offensive. I'm shocked, except that I do know UW places a lot of love on the whole universal health care idea, which may have hurt you somewhat....but it really shouldnt have since you were simply sharing your opinions on the matter...sounds to me like everything else you said in your post was logical... fortunately for you, you have other options, so don't stress it too much. Go out there and be the best you can be, and it won't make a lick of difference. Enjoy your first year!

I think you might be reading too much into what I said. All I'm trying to say is that there's a meeting this Wednesday. Although it's for a WAMI state, I think that there's a possibility of you being reviewed. I didn't say that you absolutely will be, but only mentioned the possibility. As for the Friday thing, I think that's a coincidence, because I've heard back after Wednesday meetings.

I've heard back in kind of a random fashion from both Friday and Wednesday EXCOM meetings. I actually go to school at UW and speaking with medical students here seemed to suggest that the EXCOM meetings during these months were mainly focused on the WWAMI states that were interviewing for week of interest.

Honestly though, just because they went through the process does not necessarily give them any great insight into the inner workings of the process. So their guess is probably as good as ours. Just thought I'd throw that out there and wish everyone luck.

What is the website for looking at your status? I interviewed this last month and have no idea what the heck is going on. I can't wait for it to all be over!

Well, I called and found out about my status and a few other things as well. For Idaho applicants:
-There have been 8 seats handed out already (well, offers anyway. Please
reject your offers people who are in this pool!)
-The next and final EXCOM meeting for Idaho is on March 14
-You will know on Monday, March 17 whether you are accepted or waitlisted via email
-If you don't get an email, it is probably doomsday for you.

If I don't get accepted, I'm boycotting my favorite team the Seattle Mariners! Ha ha, that'll show em'. Good luck folks!

Touche sir. It appears my emails have been purely coincidental then. Perhaps certain people get re-evaluated at certain intervals. Who really knows.

As for current students, they know nothing of our plight nowadays. They have restructured so much of admissions, that only current applicants would know anything of it, because the accepted students have no interest in the revised admissions process.

One thing I can say for certain: That email we all received that said 39% of people in the wait pool are accepted or waitlisted (from past number). That number will be higher this year. During my interview day, they told us that there are significantly less people going to the wait pool, meaning it is definitely a better place to be than in the past. So if you're still in the pool, you're looking better than ever!

Any Wyoming applicants out there for WWAMI?

bump (because I'm too lazy to go looking for this thread)

anyone know about the LOI issue at UW?

hang in, everyone.

does the UW consider LOIs? is the question. positively? negatively? at all?? anyone got any anecdotal evidence? (at this point, it doesn't have to be a double blinded RCT...)

I don't know. I sent in a LOI (letter of interest), but not a letter of intent. However, have not been accepted yet. Good question.
