i wouldn't say that it is standard practice, but there seems to be a trend of your ExCom rep emailing you after the meeting to let you know if you've been accepted, but I don't know if the same thing will happen during the marathon meetings.

I really hope I hear back on friday. Waiting 6 more days is killer. But I guess as long as it is good news, it won't matter.
 
First time poster but a long-time lurker. I am a WA state resident and interviewed fairly early in the season - and I feel as if the rest of my life hinges on the next few days. *bites fingernails*

Glad to know I have company in the "freaking out" category and good luck to you all!

Number of acceptances in the past off the Alaska alternate list:
2004 0
2005 1
2006 2
2007 4
Number of responses received back from those offered positions so far this year:
11 confirmed,
1 tentative,
8 no response yet.

Carondo - A couple people in AK I know heard back either on Friday or Saturday after the meeting.

I expect to spend most of the next five and a half days coming completely unglued with nerves. Or skiing. I haven't decided which. I went up to Snoqualmie this morning (little icey at first, but not bad on the groomed runs) and skied real fast, and went off a lot of jumps, and tried not to die in the half-pipe. It was sublime. 😎

Day 1 today

I don't know whether I should kneel and pray until I hear some answer or pace back and forth wildly while biting my nails. So nervous!!!!!!!
 
We're in an extreme lull at work right now so there's not much to do (except fix my computer, which totally spazzed out this morning and wouldn't boot!)... The nerves for Monday, combined with the boredom, are driving me slightly nuts.

I was looking at UW's Interview Season calendar and Friday says MSTP day. Does anyone know if that means that all the decisions regarding applicants only pursuing an M.D. will be made by the end of Thursday?

To answer the questions seen above:

Calling on friday will not award an answer unfortunately. The decisions are not final until the meeting is over on friday, and the decisions won't be known until Monday. At least that was my experience last year when I called on Friday afternoon...

I agree, seems like your excom rep emails you prior to an acceptance, but maybe only a few practice this...so don't freak out if you don't get one before the weekend.

Hope everyone is trying to think about other things. Remember, it's not the end of the world if you don't get in...

Hey hey, welcome back! How was your trip?

My ExCom rep is the dean. Doubt I'll be hearing anything on Friday no matter how it turns out (Dr. T, feel free to prove me wrong!).

You raise a good point about it not being the end of the world, and so just to clear this up because my own neuroses are starting to bother me, my nerves are not so much for acceptance, as some sort of resolution. It's just been hanging for so long and I'm getting sick of people asking "Hear anything new from med schools?" - I'd like to be able to move on. Either celebrate getting in (my personal preference), or find a new job and start studying for the MCAT.

One day of deliberations down, two to go. :luck:

Ditto! Everyone I work with (or even hold a conversation with for longer than five minutes) asks me how med school applications are coming along. At least I can now say, "Oh, I might know in a week or two" - but internally I'm thinking Oh man, I hope I get in...I really realy hope I get in.

I can't believe how quickly time has passed since I interviewed at UW.

How'd you get that info? Did you call? I might have to do the same thing!:laugh:
 
tbpap - I called them asked for whatever information they could give me.

The lady I spoke with was very willing to talk with me so I think you should call them. She said I could call back every couple of weeks to check on the list movement as well.

Hey! Trip was amazing, as was to be expected. Far too short however. I had to leave early to get back for school. My EXCOM rep is the dean too, actually, and I have not heard ONE person say they got an email from her before being accepted. In fact, now that I think about it, my close friend who got in after being placed in the hold pool interviewed with her and did not receive a congratulatory email, so it is not a definite thing I guess (at least for us).

Alright, I've been home for one day, and am returning to the airport in 30 minutes to fly to Creighton for a little more interview experience... :horns:

There are days it seems like it's gone fast, and days where it seems that the interview must have been YEARS ago (it was in October).

Oh well... five months of waiting is now down to four days. Hang in, y'all!
 
Hey guys. I just thought I would let you know that I got a phone call after the Feb. decisions were made for Idaho applicants. It was Friday night around 6pm. So, watch your phones! Good luck everybody! I hope you all get good news.

I was accepted last year around this time.

Check your status early Monday morning - I think that they update it first for those who have been accepted or placed on the ranked waitlist (where I was). It seemed like mine had been updated real early in the morning.

If you are on the ranked list, you are golden.

UWSOM is a great school, you'll have a blast and the hospital system and research opportunities are next to none.👍

I do hope you mean "second to none"... and yes, the research is fabulous (I work for the SOM doing research).

Thanks for the info re status checking. Of course, now I'll be obsessively checking my status ever 1.23 picoseconds from 5:30am onward on Monday...

That means I've been rejected right?

Yesterday when I checked it said: Your file is complete.

Unfortunately, if you didn't get an email with it, it's likely a rejection. Sorry to hear, hopefully you have other things lined up.

Not always, it might just mean you are on the waitlist. That's what mine said too and I got on the Wyoming waitlist. I bet you could call them and ask them.

My bet is your alternate-listed. Same thing happened to me. They didn't e-mail me at all, just got a letter stating that I was on the alternate list for AK, so maybe for you too. Call and find out, they may tell you.

Thanks a lot guys. I hope I wasn't rejected. I called so many times and left a message. I hope they call me back. I practically begged them to call me back, Lol.

When I called yesterday, they told me that regardless of whether or not you're accepted, you won't hear anything until the beginning of next week. I think the decisions made on the 26th, 27th and 28th of March will be sent out next week.
 
I've seriously checked my status six times since you left the first post. And I went to lunch.

If I go down to our biosafety level 3 lab and check from down there, maybe that'll make it change. (Back story: the day my MCAT scores were due back, I had checked the webpage seven times by 6:30am... finally gave up at 2 and went down to get some work done in BL3, and got my scores back down there.)

Oh Monday, come faster.
 
Hey Yasmine, did you check yesterday after the ExCom meeting would have been over, or before? I'm just wondering when they're updating our stati (plural of status)...

The suspense is killing me.

Well, ladies and gentleman, the above poster was incorrect. You CAN call and ask if your status is changed to action taken. I just called and got the word....that I did not get in once again.

The good thing about it is that I can now go into my Creighton interview tomorrow and tell them honestly that it is my number one choice, because it certainly is now!! Best of luck to those of you who are still viable for a slot!!

If it makes anyone feel any better...I got the "Action was taken on your application 11/16/2007. You should receive a letter from our office by 11/23/2007" update on the friday they decided on my fate. I got my acceptance email the following monday. Just because the update says your getting a letter and you dont get an email the same day, doesn't mean you are rejected.

For those of you getting rejections, I feel for you. If you aren't matriculating somewhere else this fall, go to an exit interview with the Dean. The reality is that the difference between being accepted and not can be pretty minor... some guidance (and reassurance) can be invaluable.

For those of you still in limbo, best of luck folks. Hope to see you in the fall.

there's a different dean this year, so i don't know if things are the same, but as i've applied a couple times, a status change minus the email, unfortunately, means a rejection. and even more unfortunately, it's the same story for me again this year. sigh. good luck c/o 2012 and hopefully i'll see you in residency if hawaii lets me in this year.

anyone hear anything new? i've been checking my status every 10 minutes for the last hour and a half, not sure whether i want my status to change or not... for now, it's still "complete".

i swear, once i get a decision out of the UW, i never want to see the word complete ever again.

I've never seen so much sincere sympathy. Thanks a lot guys... it helps a lot.

I just gotta move forward, I guess. What else is there to do? Hopefully the Exit Interview will help me figure out what I need to do next. I wish you all the best of luck.
