No changes here. I woke up this morning determined not to expect anything for at least another day. How's that working for me? ...meehhh

Yeah... every morning I think I feel like I'll hear something. At the same time, I'm so used to not hearing anything that I feel like it'll always be "tomorrow" that I hear back.

Oh give me a home, where the med students roam, where cadavers and stethoscopes lay, where seldom is heard the "rejection" word, and the AdComs don't drive us insane!
(cptjpmcdoogle started it with this Annie singing nonsense!)

Carol, please don't put us out to pasture!

I was trying to suggest that she should give us a home in med school. You know, where the med students roam. 😎

But yes, please Carol?

Waitlisted.

#48.

In other words, not a chance in hell.

Not necessarily. Anything can happen.

Did you find out in a letter? I was supposed to get mailed something by 4/2 and I'm still waiting.

My status just changed in the last half hour... I called as soon as it did.

Yes, technically anything can happen - thanks for the vote of confidence. But historically they don't make it past 25 or so... I'm also in a very glass half-empty mood, having been laid off, un laid off, and threatened with firing most recently, in the last three weeks.

Just called, #11. Hopefully that's as good as in. Anyone know how in state Washington WWAMI program for 1st year works? What are my chances of staying in Seattle? Also, anyone know when waitlist will start to move?

I talked to adm. today and they said that in the past they have taken quite a few applicants off the ranked list, also that it starts moving as soon as people that have spots indicate that they no longer are going to be attending UW. It could be any day now... I promise I will post as soon as it starts moving (#1), that way you don't have to call all the time.

Waitlist spot #7. I would have loved an outright acceptance, but I feel good about this.

wow, #48? I didn't think that the waitlist went past 25 in the past... Am I wrong? Anyway, hope you make it off the waitlist!! I'm unranked, so at least you're a bit better off than that.

Man, weird to see a 48 on that list. Anyway, a couple of you are definitely in, and some of you could be waiting for some time still. Best of luck to everyone in whatever they end up doing.

In state people preference their first year site, and if there are still spots in those WA wami sites, the seattle folk are lottery picked to fill the spots...

Oh boy! I was at work all day today, and never had the chance to check up on my status or call. I guess I'm just going to have to wait until tomorrow morning....

HIVdoc2b
Who knows? It's true, anything can happen, but it means a long waiting game again. Good luck to you man. I'll be waiting along with you to hear my fate as well.

I keep hoping I heard wrong and that I'm higher than that... but some chick at the admissions office told me that while they were going to have two lists again this year, that it would be a little different than last year.

Yay for five more months of waiting followed by a rejection. (I have a very glass half empty perspective right now, between this and nearly getting fired Tuesday night. Been a high quality week.)

To woniu and ecuafish and diagoras, congratulations are in order! And to lgibb, I can just about feel your pain. I suspect I was two spots away from your position (my guess is they ranked down 50 places this year).

PJ, raychacha, mcdoogle, leftcoaster, and carondo (and anyone else I missed) - here's hoping for awesome news for you guys.

I came in at #47. I'm not too optimistic about the chances either... Congrats to those that are near the top though! We all know it's an awesome school.

thanks. sorry about the bad news, that sucks.

Sometimes I think it would be better to be rejected then waitlisted...it is SO hard to try and study for the MCAT when in the back of your mind you are thinking I might not have to take it again... 😀

tbpap - Yeah, I'm not excited about that prospect, either. Do you know how many people have been taken off the WY list in previous years? Aren't you #1? I wouldn't think you'd need to re-take the MCAT if you made it that far.

I got an e-mail yesterday from UW stating I should get an post-interview meeting with Dr. Carol Teitz before the end of April. Anyone else?

Good luck to all those who haven't heard yet and congrats to all who made the ranked list!

Well, I have the unfortunate honor of being unranked. It was a good ride while it lasted and I'm glad to have met some of you guys.

I had the same message. I called and found out I was unranked.

Good luck to everyone who will be calling to find out their fate today.
pj - I'm sorry to hear that you are unranked. Is UW the only school you applied to this year?
HIVdoc2b and LeftCoaster, maybe its a good sign that they've made a longer ranked list this year. It could indicate that they expect to move through more of the waitlist. And the class size is bigger this year. Good luck to both of you.
Congratulations to everyone else with good news!

Hey PJ, real real sorry to hear that you're unranked. Here's hoping the waitlist moves A LOT this year... that and the 20 extra spots and maybe some miracle will happen. What's your situation outside of the UW? Do you have another option, I hope? I'd still be up for a small get-together for ice cream or something one of these days, if you're interested. Ruraldr and I haven't discussed it in the last couple days but I think she was interested... as am I.

Me. Freaking. Too. I brought my gen chem study book to work today. Its presence in my bag is depressing.

Still definitely up for a get-to-gether. Congrats to you all for your respective waitlist positions. (I'm a little bummed that no one got in directly from the continued SDN group at the end--makes me wonder how many people actually got accepted that were put on Continued Status to begin with!)

Anyone know how the exit interview system works--do we call and ask for one?

At this point, I do have an acceptance and am waitlisted at a few places. Yet, this whole time I didn't even think about those options cause I'd figure UW would come through for me. However, as sad as it was to learn about my fate yesterday, I'm moving on and am content with the situation I'm in. I guess it's time for a change, seeing as how I grew up here and went to school here. Also, it's good to have some closure finally.

Woniu, congrats on your high ranking. I'm sure you'll be hearing something good sometime soon.

To HIVdoc2b, Dane, and Contentablue, it was good meeting you guys and here's to our future, wherever it may be. And I love ice cream!

You schedule one through Stella, assistant to Dr. Teitz. The information should be in the letter they send you. Basically, you can either call or email Stella. If you want to get things rolling, you can definitely email her, she's pretty good about replying relatively quickly.

My guess is 50 people are ranked, which is about double previous years, I believe. I have little evidence to support my claim of 50, except that I don't know anyone with a number below that.

Why?

I got my rejection letter, which is fine, but the reason listed was that my verbal reasoning score on the MCAT was "far lower than the average for accepted students."

Which can't be true. I got 11VR, 10BS, 10 PS. And an "O." If they want to reject me for the "O" after all this time, then that's just harsh.

sounds like you got sent the wrong letter to me.

My rejection came today too but there was no reason other than lots of other qualified applicants.

hopefully they'll be able to go into more detail for the exit interview.

Are you serious? That's BS. I agree with ruraldr, sounds like you got the wrong letter. I'd schedule an exit interview...

Sorry to hear about your rejection, btw. Another one bites the dust, as it were. Do you have other options?

I'm in at Nova in Florida, and waitlisted at another DO school in Florida. I could not begin to understand why Florida gives me so much love, but I'm taking it and running with it. No more drizzle for me.

Did you know that UW is the northernmost med school in the US? North of Duluth! North of Biddeford! North of Fargo! It's therefore the DARKEST med school. (This is my "oh yeah, you're gonna reject me, I'm gonna diss you, sucka" retort to UW, of course.)

I looked at the letter again, and given my crap GPAs I can see that UW maybe wanted me to have a really dramatically awesome MCAT to counter my damage. But I would not for one second assume that if I went nuts and got a 40S I'd have any different UW results next year. If I were hellbent on UW, I'd go do an SMP. But I'm 41. Gotta get to it.

Best of luck to y'all. Specifically, best of luck finding your way around Health Sciences...

Im unranked, know that they always take some off of unranked, and was trying to gauage my chances. Is this the first year that they have had spokane (so that would mean an extra group of spots)?

Yeah I'm #1 for WY. They said they didn't have a waitlist last year (not sure why) by the year before they did and 3 people on it got in. I called yesterday and they said that right now there are 12 confirmed and 4 tentative...eep! :scared:
Yeah re-taking the MCAT is still up in the air...not sure if I will be able to do much better a second time!

tbpap- 4 tentative is still pretty good. I'm sure at least one must have a better offer somewhere else. Three people from AK have to knock off if I am going to go to UW this year. I'm planning on applying again and I've started looking for shadowing and volunteering gigs again. I met the girl who is #2 and she said she'd keep me posted after she calls this week.

Anyone else alternate listed from states other than WA?

There's a whole forum about SMPs. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forumdisplay.php?f=71

An SMP is a one year masters program that typically puts you through the first year of med school to prove you can handle med school (and to prove your undergrad GPA isn't the whole story).

unfortunately i already have a masters degree and feel i would waste more time and money with these options. thanks for the advice though.

anyone find out yet about the ranked and unranked numbers situation, and why they different this year. according to other posts there has been unranked acceptances every year since the mid 90's

also, does anyone know how many waitlist spots UWSOM went through in 2006 and 2007? 10? 20? the 2012 class is going to be larger than previous years, so i would expect they would take even more students.

I talked to the adm office and she read off the last 17 years of how many people had been accepted off the waiting list... I don't recall any year that had fewer than 15 and it had been in the 20-30's in the past couple years. There was one year that had something like 35 people... The list should start moving soon 😀

Congrats on your #1 position ecuafish. I can hardly wait for people to start coming off the list! When you do hear, maybe we should start a new thread so that next year people will be able to easily search for waitlist movement in 2008. I know that the first thing I did when I found out I was waitlisted was look for the last 5 years of UWSOM waitlist threads so I had some idea of where I stood.

thanks ecuafish for the reply. this is great news because i am about #10 on the ranked waitlist! congrats to everyone that even made it onto the waitlist! for those of you who were not offered spots, do not give up! i was flat out rejected last year, but it looks as though a little perseverance paid off. 🙂

Hey PubHealth--do you mind sharing what you ended up doing for your year between?

was the exit interview helpful for you to give direction to improving your application?
