Nudge?

I know, I should chill or it's going to be a long five months.

Random question for the Seattle-area waitlisters. Have y'all gotten your waitlist notification letters? My status says I should receive mine by April 10 (tomorrow), and it's not like it had to go any particular distance... but I have seen neither hide nor hair of it.

Thanks.

Hey, I got my letter today. It was postmarked for April 9th (but the letter was dated April 3), so I guess they went out a little bit late. I'm in Eastern WA.

You've got that right!!!! :boom:

I'm not sure if that's supposed to be a "shut up and go away" or "arg... I don't wanna wait five more months!" comment. I'm going to assume the latter. Fortunately, although ski season is over, climbing and ultimate will soon dominate my free time and keep me from going too crazy.

Woniu, I got my letter yesterday (the 10th, right on schedule!)... who did/are you emailing to accept your waitlist spot? I emailed Stella since I think she deals with the askuwsom address too, and I put in my request for an exit interview. But she didn't email back (I emailed last night), so I'm not sure if there was someone else we were supposed to contact.

Hey, there's a new thread from tianac (or something like that) about getting a call from the SOM today... he/she didn't get to answer and thus doesn't know what it's about. Anyone else get a call?

HIVdoc2b, I emailed the askuwsom address yesterday afternoon, but I didn't address it to anyone specifically (to whom it may concern). I didn't get an email back yesterday either, so, I figure if I don't get anything by monday afternoon I'll call and make sure that they got my email and then also ask if there has been anymore movement on the waitlist.

I got my letter on the 10th, as well.. and I emailed Stella to confirm. she graciously replied.

A call has meant an acceptance from what I've heard from those who have received them. I'm still waiting...

Yea, I finally met the #2 AK waitlister...Anyone lurking with the #1 Alaska WWAMI spot? PM me. We'll have a waitlist party if you're in AK.

Your assumption is right 🙂

So if you're on the waitlist they contact you by calling you? Or do they e-mail too?

tbpap, I should take this opportunity to say that I love your avatar. 😀

And now back your regularly scheduled WAITING...

Just got off of the phone with Jennifer. #1 & #2 have been accepted from the WA alternate list. So, those of us lucky enough to have spots can subtract 2 from our numbers.

Thanks for the update Diagoras 🙂

I don't know, but the only time that I've heard of anyone getting a call is when they are accepted. just hearsay really, but can't think of any other reason why they would call us instead of just e-mail. I'm not sure why some people who are accepted get calls and some get both a call and an e-mail. I'm not sure how this even applys to us on the waitlist now, since I don't know anyone in AK who has been accepted from the waitlist. the speculation continues....

lol thanks! my dog is in heaven when it gets warm out and we fill her kiddie pool with water 🙂

I talked to Jennifer this morning - no acceptances off the alternate list for Alaska yet. They will e-mail all acceptances.

So far:
17 confirmed acceptances
2 tentative
1 no response yet
20 total

yikes :scared:

Damn, sorry to hear it... however, you still have a chance. You're number three, right? Maybe the two tentatives and the no response will all get better offers. Or, maybe one or two will get better offers and your buddies on the Alaska waitlist will likewise get into Johns Hopkins or something. I'm holding out hope for you!

Thanks, man. Yeah, I'm #3, so I still have a chance - and it's still "early" 🙄 hehe - last year someone in AK was accepted right before school started - wow that's a long time. I guess it is possible that someone who is confirmed could change their mind since there is no deposit to lose. anyway, more waiting...

We're all pulling for you guys on the waitlist - here's looking at you, Alaskahopeful :luck:

Thanks! I think we could use all the "pulling for" that we can get.

Is anyone up to anything interesting these days?

Thanks! I needed that!

HIVdoc2b - Just trying to graduate (May 4) - one class, one research project and one independent study left to finish. 2.5 more weeks of undergrad -- yea!

Congratulations on your soon-to-be graduation. That's exciting! Enjoy what's left... I swear, you'll miss once you wind up in the real world. Do you have plans for the summer?

Also, remind me. Do you have other options in the exceedingly unlikely event that the UW doesn't come to its senses? 😉

For all you WA waitlisters, I just called admissions and they've still only accepted two off the waitlist.

I'll be working and volunteering some this summer and hopefully enjoying a little time off. I'm just holding out for UW and if it doesn't happen this year I'll try again. what about you?

Hey, we could be twins, that's exactly what I'm doing. Working, volunteering, taking a real vacation (three weeks in Alaska, actually), and retaking the MCAT so that I can reapply because UW is my only shot right now and I'm not a big fan of my odds.

Whats the usual waitlist movement like? I heard somewhere it's around 25-30 per year but can't be sure

I don't know exactly...but I've read that for the last few years its been 25-30, and that the first 15 people or so have gotten in since some time in the 90's. But I get all of my info from SDN so I have no idea how reliable it actually is. 🙄

Actually I think the near-guaranteed number is around 20-25. I had a friend on the ranked list last year (#22 or so) and she was told that everyone on the ranked list has gotten in since 1993 (not sure specifically). But from the sounds of it, they have shaken things up this year and expanded the ranked list and shortened the unranked list.

Sweet. Hopefully there will be more movement this year because of Spokane also.

I got my post-interview appointment confirmation today for May 12.

"This e-mail is to inform you about your appointment with Admissions Dean Dr. Carol Teitz. ...This appointment will be about 30 minutes. "

😍 oh Carol, how I've longed for this moment...🙄

So I talked to Jennifer and asked if we should/could be communicating w/ adcom as far as current activities, etc. - anythying to help all of us on the waitlist. She said the rankings are set, so nothing will really increase our chances at this point. (I think everyone pretty much knew this). So, I was wondering for everyone who's scheduled a post-interview appointment, what are your reasons for doing so at this point (before you know whether or not you'll get in)? Is it to get feedback about how to strengthen your app. so you can start taking action immediately?

yes, that was my reason. when I got the waitlist letter, it said that they would notify me one way or the other by September , so I figured I better make an appoinment so I could start working on my shortcomings in case I have to wait that long and then hear that I didn't get in.

Good idea...I need to schedule one soon. Are you going to WA alaskahopeful or just calling?

I see... that's a good move I think. I have a friend who was rejected last year and he said that his post-interview meeting was very helpful - they gave him some really specific critiques. He said it was also a bit frustrating b/c some of his feedback was about personality/interviewing behavior, which was hard to pin-point what to improve on... but for the most part it provided a lot of direction. Best of luck!

I've also heard that historically everyone off the ranked waitlist is offered a spot. However, I also know that the ranked waitlist is longer this year (At least for WA...I'm like #51)....so yeah, I'm kinda confused at this point. Anyone got more information on this?

PS: what's the deal with Spokane? extra spots?

I'm calling in, I'll let you know how it goes.

Jen - thanks, yeah, I have a few friends here who were rejected and not sure why. So much rides on how you present yourself at the interview, so personality issues that they don't make explicit can be frustrating. Another guy here said that all she told him was to get more clinical experience. Anyway, I'm hoping for the best.

1. When you are getting your application feedback, do not for get to show your enthusiasm for UWSOM! I am pulling for you guys!

2. Is anyone up for calling admissions this week to find out if anyone has been taken off the waitlist? 🙂

I'm waiting for someone else to call about the waitlist. I just called them on Thursday and I don't want them to get sick of hearing my voice 😉.

hey guys. i decided to call and it looks as though they have still only accepted 2 people off of the waitlist. the movement is definitely slower than last year, but lets just hope things pick up in May! Cheers.

Thanks for letting us know, PubHealth.

C'mon waitlist!

Hey All,

I interviewed at UWSOM and didn't get in as an OOS. I requested an exit interview a few weeks ago. Today I got this email:
Dear [me],

Unfortunately, the Dean of Admissions will only be meeting with residents of the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. Since you are a resident of Oregon, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to schedule a feedback appointment for you.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and I wish you the best in all of your future endeavors.

Stella...

I looked back on their interview web site: on one place (out of the two where they talk about exit interviews) they mention the regional requirement. I swear I read that carefully when I requested one and I did not see a regional requirement.

I want this counseling badly. I need their advice.

Any ideas? Did the policy change? Should I ask really nicely to have one again?

Good luck to all of you on a waitlist.

That's strange,
I would talk to the admissions faculty about it later, once the shizer-storm of the acceptance process has calmed down a little.

I am assuming that you applied to OHSU correct? I did my undergrad in Oregon, interviewed there and they said no thanks. They did give me almost an hour long exit interview where they walked me through my application, it was pretty sweet.

On a side note
Are there any Montana folks looking at this UW thread? I have been scouring the net for any signs of life, I know you are out there, the WWAMI class is full every year. Somebody?.... ANYbody?

Bueler?

They don't have computers in Montana, silly.

Hey guys! I just found out that I got into the WWAMI (wyoming) class! :hardy: (We just had our contract meeting and I think it might have scared someone!) Best of luck to everyone on the waitlist (whatever state you are from!). I'm pulling for you! I want to see you in real life in a couple years!!

YAY!!!! for tbpap! 👍 I'm so happy for you, congratulations! Is about time for some good news on this poor thread.

Does anyone know how they determine how they schedule the exit interviews? For example, do they base it on when you got your letter of doom, or when you requested your re-hashing? I'm only kidding, my exit interview is apparently on the first day that they're doing them and I'm really looking forward to it! I'm just wondering...

Hey PUBHEALTH, I was just wondering where you got your info about the waitlist moving slower than last year - or are you just going by the info from this site?? Not second-guessing you, just wanting to know b/c it sounds like you have some good sources. Thanks for the info!
