So I got what looks like a generic email from Vanderbilt med inviting me to apply even though I've given no indication of interest. I am applying this cycle to other schools though. Anyone else get anything like this or heard of it?

I've gotten several of these from a bunch of different schools. I'm a URM so that might have something to do with It. I don't think it honestly means much.

Received it and have already applied. I'm pretty sure it's sent to a pretty large amount of people.

Also received it. Doubt it means anything.

They've sent me over a dozen. It means nothing. I have little to no chance of getting in, they have no reason to think I'm interested in applying. Not even sure how they got my e-mail address.

vanderbilt wants your money dont apply unless you have a really high mcat score, because that's what they're looking. just look at their school thread and see how they auto sent secondaries to all of those with really high mcats and put everyone else through screening to catch the rest with high mcats.

Dude you missed Vandy's first cut. Get over it already. If you haven't been rejected, you're still in the running. I was passed up for an interview for months at WashU, but was ultimately invited to interview, accepted, and am matriculating. It's not over until you're rejected.

But acting like a child is certain to not help your cause. If Vandy (or any school, for that matter) chose their class primarily based on MCAT, that is their prerogative.

Most schools want people with high mcats. I appreciated that Vandy did an earlier screen to those who had no shot rather than all the other schools which auto-send secondaries and take much more of your money+time.

I think it has more to do with Vanderbilt changing to a 1 year preclinical curriculum. Such a drastic change from the usual 2 year preclinical means the school will grab the 4.0/40+ MCAT crowd so that classes are successful in the match due to internal motivation and ability to excel regardless of curriculum.

Vandy has always placed an emphasis on high mcat. Their GPA has gone up every single year. They even show it on their website. I don't think this has to do with them changing their curriculum to 1 year of preclinical.

Yes, but it's different when you grab all 4.0/40+ MCATs at the beginning and automatically send them secondaries, and end up matriculating them.

Annoyingly I'm not even eligible to apply as I used AP Credits and can't replace them by the end of Winter even if I wanted to (they want all pre-reqs as non-AP AND done by the time you apply)

Can't u just take upper level science classes?

How did you take the MCAT then?

Self-studied

Upper level courses solve the problem. You should've planned this before

Most advice given to me from older students was that you could always take courses your Senior year if a school didn't accept the AP Credits. If I had my heart set on Vanderbilt, I would have planned before. It was just a little annoying to get an email as well when I technically am not eligible.

How is that any different? They love high GPA and high mcat students.
