VCOM
Pros
  • Cheaper (50k)
  • I guess a more reputable school
  • Campus is much nicer (is shared with VTech)
  • No rank

Cons
  • Lower match rate in 2023 (99.7%)
  • Lower first time pass rate for level 1/2 in the past 3 years (94, 98, 97 and 97, 99, 98)
  • Less people match to Texas in 2022 (1.9%)
  • Higher attrition rate
  • According to some students, research is difficult to find
  • Rotations are kinda widespread
  • Pre-clinical are graded
  • Clinical is H/HP/P/F and graded exams
  • Mandatory Lecture attendance
  • Students say average 3-4 exams per week
  • Dismissal policy is horrendous from what I've read on SDN and Reddit
  • Larger class size (185)
  • Distance to airport is far and tickets are much more expensive from home

Touro Nevada
Pros
  • Higher match rate in 2023 (100)
  • Higher first time pass rate for level 1/2 in the past 3 years (97, 98.3, 99.2 and 98.3, 100, 99.2)
  • More people matching to Texas (5.56%)
  • 75% of rotations are within 1 hour from main campus
  • Smaller class size (162)
  • P/F and H/HP/P/P/F for pre-clinical and clinical
  • No mandatory lectures
  • Option for dual MPH
  • Chiller exam schedule
  • Distance to airport is shorter and tickets to Las Vegas are much cheaper from home

Cons
  • More expensive (64k)
  • Internal gpa and rank
  • Location is not ideal, it looks like it is a warehouse and is neighbors with car dealerships

Summary: Honestly both programs are great. There are just some minor additional pros for TUNCOM so I'm not sure if the extra 14k per year is worth it. Plus the VCOM dismissal policy horror stories are a little scary. Is there anything else I should be considering?

Thanks <3

If the rotations require you to find new housing each time, that adds to the cost (short term rentals). And let’s say an extra 1k for flights per year (very rough approximation). There is still probably a decent price difference, so it up to you how you weigh the factors.

I personally think the P/F pre-clinical is nice with the non-mandatory attendance. Staying at 1 place for 3rd and 4th year is also a good convenience.
