Apparently they have had some hold up with the Fin. Aid packages. They were supposed to be out the first part of June, but at the meeting this week they said it would be a couple of weeks. Congrats on the acceptance.

I thought it was strange to get an email from Dr. H asking to withdraw if I really wasn't going to go there. Why would they be trying to clear the list?

Hehe..don't get mad buddy...i guess if you're new to the site then, welcome! But it seems like a recent trend that people who are already registered, get a new SN just to ask application related stuff...

about the email...I think it was very nice of her, she's just trying to get a better sense of who is really interested to go there, and who's just on the waiting list to say "yey..i got one more acceptance now..i only have 10 of them..", you get the point. As you know the waitlist movement is very slow this year for even out of state. So I think this way there's less time wasted on people who are just on the waitlist to be there..but donot intend to go to VCU. So I guess it's more of a wake up call from her to say that hey you can't possibly attend five medical schools next year...so stop wasting everybody's time.

Wish you luck!!

yes if you are holding an in-state acceptance and aren't planning to use it....... Plllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeaseeeeee withdrawl so some of us can stop being sooo anxious ha.thanks!

Yeah, I second that.

... that they're planning to do another "batch" of offers soon, possibly today. He also said movement was "modest".

Good luck.

How do you know? Has anyone heard anything lately?

Hey everyone! Just checking in to see how everyone is holding up. I've been reading but not posting since I've been out of town.

If you haven't done so, maybe a letter of intent to Dr. Heldberg would help if you are only counting on VCU to come through for you.

Good luck everyone! I know it's easier said than done but don't stress. It won't do anything but give you gray hairs 😉

Anyone?...anything?....Beuller?...Beuller?

8/8 is apparently the first day of orientation; not sure about when the 'last day' one could get in would be. Base your chances on what Dr. H said, I think she is quite truthful, but also appaerntly out of town for several weeks.

I got in at the beginning of June. I wrote some letters and also emailed Dr. H.
She told me that I should hear from the school soon and I did. So I think if you want to know where you stand the email from dr H will tell you alot. Hope this helps for everyone whos waiting. Also for some encouragement I was waitlisted at 7 schools and this was my first acceptance. Good luck to everyone.

I am out of state, interviewed way back in October

Just got the email today that I'm in. I'm out of state.

I'm getting a bit nervous here, and my optimism is wearing thin. I don't think its looking good for me at VCU (out of state). 🙁 Haven't heard anything recently, other than I know they start on 8/8...just a month away.

I declined an out of state spot last week, so there's still a chance. Good luck!

I called the admissions office today and they said they gave out five acceptances yesterday... This whole process sucks...Anyway, they said its moving slowly and accepted students have 2 weeks to decide, so maybe in 2 weeks there'll be more acceptances....good luck all. 😳

hey guys, one of my best friends got in off the waitlist yesterday. my friend is in-state too. keep the faith. talk to dean heldberg for honest info on your chances. she kept my friend hopeful during their contact this summer, so she gives real answers (at least in this anecdotal case). good luck.

I also declined an out-of-state spot a couple of days ago--it was a really tough decision. The best of luck to everyone still banking on VCU!

Why are wait lists across the nation moving so slowly this year? What gives? 😕

On a different note, a few of the med students have said in the past that half of their class came from the waitlist but this year just might disprove that notion 😡 . I wonder how many people actually squeeze through at the last minute...

Oh please let us squeeze!

bump, any news this week? (I know it's still Monday!)

2 weeks?!?! I thought we had more time than that! Geez. 😳

"it is close but I just can't predict. We have had no withdrawals in a week so I am concerned it won't happen. There are always those last minute things but.....
We start on August 8th."

From Dr. Heldberg.

Just remember, the last person off the waitlist gets a full ride!

It really is true... that is atleast what Dr. Heldberg said during my interview. Some rich plastic surgeon who was the last person off the waitlist at VCU when he applied has set up a scholarship that gives the last person accepted a full ride.

From my understanding it is not a full ride, but they do get a nice scholarship, which I think is pretty cool. Way to go rich plastic surgeon guy! 🙂

Wow, Congrats focus!! I guess they are still taking people even this week. Had Dr. Heldberg given you some feeling that you were close to the top of the list?

Looks like it's probably the end of the road for me with VCU. Oh well.. 🙁

You hear that...? That's the sound of Wahoo's heart breaking. Ok, I'm going to go cry now.

I'm just happy it's over. I interviewed in early October, got put "on hold" at the end of October, got on the "alternate List" in March and so basically have been waiting for this day (the end!!!) for 9 friggin' months! Dr. Heldberg told me I wouldn't get in a few days ago, but I'm happy that orientation starts today and I can officially forget about VCU 2009...stop imagining myself on the campus, stop mentally planning how I'd move there...etc...

Wahooali...talk to the premed advisor from your undergrad...maybe he/she can suggest what steps you can take and come up with a game plan for when to reapply...don't lose hope, people even go to med school in their 50's! (my uncle did!)

Hey dude, wow, same exact situation here. Interviewed in October, waitlisted in March, and just been waiting, wishing, hoping, and harrassing the admissions office ever since. I have been holding out a glimmer of hope, and having a plan of attack about how I could drop everything and head up to Richmond if I did receive and acceptance. If you do not mind my asking, what exactly did she tell you a few days ago?

And as far as my application goes, I know what I need to do to improve it, it is just much easier said than done. For me it is all about the numbers. I have everything else in copius amounts...EMT-B and volunteer with a rescue squad, 3 years of research 2 of those have been full-time with publications, leadership positions, blah blah blah. But then my GPA is borderline, and I refuse to/cannot afford to pay for one of those "certificate programs" to help bring it up. And I am not a good test taker, so my MCAT is pretty weak despite having taken it twice already. So I'm at a loss for what to do about it. So, this is it for me for med school (for now at least). It is getting back-burnered while I pursue something else. I just don't know what that something else is any more. 🙁
