Hi,
I'm just wondering how similar are the EK verbal 101 to the AAMC exams for those that took the MCAT or even the practice MCAT? For EK, i find myself constantly looking back at the details, but I've heard on the real deal that I should just focus on the author's purpose and the "big picture" . In effect, I loose out on time and hence points and earn very inconsistent scores (ie: 4,6,5,7,4). If anyone has any pointers on how to fix this, please do share. I'm very confused on how to change my "strategy" or wondering how long it takes to see improvements in my verbal score. I notice that I extract the wrong conclusion form the passages sometimes). I mean i've been mapping out the passage, because it helps me to retain information because I can't seem to "mentally" retain the info in the passage.

Yes, the main idea is to get the big picture of the passage. A lot of times the passage may ask for details in the passage but if you understand just the passage you can use logic to finalize the answer. It sounds like you're having trouble understanding the overall message in the passage. Have you tried what I advised last time? Mark the ones you got one and try to reread the passage and pick the new answers.

Also, if you've been doing verbal everyday extensively it can really take a toll on you. I didn't even realize it until I took a two day break. I was getting frustrated like you and I was spending hours a day on verbal. After I took a break i scored 3-4 points consistently higher.

Hi there!
thanks for the reply!
I did try the method you prescribed and it did work for a few passages that I did! SO thank you for that! It's really frustrating when I do a passage sometimes and i get 1/6 answer right! And I've been doing max 2 passages a day also and this is my fourth verbal test that I've done. And for the passages which I do horrific on, I tend to focus on the wrong aspect of what the author is saying or rather writing. Thanks anyway, I guess keep going right? Good luck to you!

I'm definitely hitting the panic button my verbal scores are 6 and 6 and my MCAT is on 5/11. It's just so frustrating with this verbal, while i'm taking it I feel like i'm getting the answers correct, only to see my score at the end as a 6!!
