Vet school social life

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm still new here, but it seems like the "pre-veterinary" message board is for WW games and MEME wars. It is not for "sharing ideas." 😀

If you want to chat with grown-ups, check out the DVM board. This is the kids table!!!

You are pretty much spot on. Take a look thru the thread topics. "LIS and Lissa's Kick-Ass WW Game Thread", "Random Stuffs", MEME Wars, an NFL thread and something about pre-vet binge drinking. Classy board. How dare somebody try to lower the level of discourse with some humor on here. Idiots all of 'em.

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realize that the pre-vet forum was supposed to be such a super cereal place.

Screw that. How about "New Member," "Hurricane Sandy," "The Support Group - A place for admissions-related rants and worries."? We have places for serious discussion, and places for being silly or having fun.... picking the latter and using them to insult the whole place isn't accurate or productive in any way.

I find it interesting that this is the only preprofessional forum on SDN with such topics. You don't see that in pre-med, pre-dental, or pre-pharm. Is it something in our profession or is it just this small group that finds it necessary to inject off-topic "silliness" in a setting designed for furthering our professional education?

I think you should visit the Lounge.

Good luck. :meanie:

And what are you doing here anyways? It seems a bit childish to argue about this coming from someone that talks about furthering the profession.

The "silliness" is a great way to provide some stress relief to the people that post here. You are more than welcome to not read those threads if they bother you so much.

If you're here solely to "further your professional education," you're in the wrong place and we wouldn't be too offended if you left.

This subforum is a community of pre-veterinary, veterinary students and the occasional veterinarian. We constantly answer questions about applying to vet school, getting through vet school, support one another, and yes, we do have WW games and other "fun" threads. It's a relatively small, closer-knit forum than many of the others. I personally don't think that's a bad thing.

Really. You are obviously not even a well-read troll.

Have you ever read any of these forums.. .

on pre-allo first page is the eating poop hot dog thread (a classic by the way):
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=1007

That is on the first page. I am sure any effort at all will uncover plenty of others.

Ignorance IS a crime.

If you don't have a sense of humor, you're going to have quite a miserable life.

There are tons of more "serious" threads, if you prefer.

I think you should visit the Lounge.

Indeed.

Not just pre-professional.... we have residents, attendings, dentists, pharmacists, specialist physicians, vets, etc. all being silly there! Oh my! The horror!

Ignorance IS a crime.

Really? Considering your status as a "2nd 2nd year," you will have to excuse me if I take your criticisms lightly. Perhaps you should spend a little less time researching MD coprophagy threads.

Just a thought.

Considering your status as a pre-vet, I don't think you should be trying to poke your elders with internet sticks when they reveal your inaccurate statements.

I've been on SDN since 2006 and I can assure you, there has been a pretty equal amount of silliness mixed in with all the serious threads over ALL forums. And there is nothing wrong with that in the least.

Not that it's any of your business, but SOV had extenuating circumstances related to his health last year. Maybe you should think before you type.

It is fairly obvious by your lack of originality in even being able to find an avatar that you are about as daft as a brush. Perhaps think before you speak out of your arse. And if you don't like the way the forum is run, you are free to find your way right on out. 😀

And even with that he's much farther into the carrier than you!

Thanks for sticking up for me..... 😍

And good deflection there humongous. ...Attack the messenger, ignore the message.

You are obviously a troll account. The only question is who...... Well I will let the mods figure that one out.

A very important part of this profession is mental health- finding an outlet away from school/study/applications/crazy productiveness. And I think that's well reflected here. We're a true community (okay, okay, barf) and we provide both helpful answers and a little group fun. If you can't appreciate that and feel that you need to be condescending toward us, may as well leave now.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a burn. Humongous, before you make assumptions as to anyones performance and/or intellect based on their school status, remember that you basically know no one's background here.

The game is afoot... :ninja:

But seriously, am I a troll because I disagree with the (largely off-topic) direction of a "pre-veterinary" forum? 😕

I didn't intend for the discussion to turn mean-spirited, but I hardly posted anything inflammatory (until SOV made his "Ignorance IS a crime" comment. He hurt my feelings.)

Not a troll because you disagree... there are always lots of disagreements..

you are a presumed troll b/c:
1) the argumentative nature of your posts. Not what you say, but how you say it.
2) your alleged knowledge of SDN although you have only been posting 4 days.
3) your knowledge of my acronym (SOV) after less than a week.
4) Your 5+ member label.
5) your use of avatars.

In general you act like someone relatively familiar with the forum, so it appears you are a regular poster just having some fun with a new account.

Seems like this person just has quite a mouth. But want to point out nicknames/acronyms can be found within 1 week of reading posts. Not that hard to pick up, and many of your points here are kinda based on observational and critical thinking skills alone. Maybe add a dash of dull UK "humour", and you have yourself a level 80 troll.

Exactly my point. You obviously know what sarcasm is, right? There was no need to refer to others as idiots for just having an conversation, as the poster I was referencing did in this thread. Good catch!!!

Was this directed to Twelve Tigers for calling other members "idiots" for doing just what you prescribed?

Could be a long-time lurker, too. But let's go with troll

Are you assuming that I am trolling or that I have two accounts? Neither is true.

Re-reading my posts, I don't see anything inflammatory or insensitive until you personally called me out. Apparently, it is ok for senior members to insult juniors, but not the other way around. Got it. I will be much friendlier moving forward.

2) your alleged knowledge of SDN although you have only been posting 4 days.
3) your knowledge of my acronym (SOV) after less than a week.
Yes, I have only been posting for a few days, but I'm not new to SDN. I have been lurking for a few months. I thought it would be appropriate to speak only after I've learned a basic understanding of the group. Apparently, I overestimated your inclusiveness.

4) Your 5+ member label.
5) your use of avatars.

In general you act like someone relatively familiar with the forum, so it appears you are a regular poster just having some fun with a new account.

You have to admit, the 5+ member level is pretty funny. Just one more post and I'll be 10+

UK? This guy definitely has a "Philadelphia mouth." No class! :corny:

I'm not sure why you're so adamantly sticking up for people airing out dirty laundry on a public forum, but it's a little weird. I just think you like to argue.

It didn't seem like dirty laundry. The guy seemed sincerely proud of his accomplishments. You must admit the feat was impressive...

Happy HowlOWeen everyone!!!!

It is a huge change from past cycles. The ratio of non-pre-veterinary topics to pre-veterinary topics is pretty high, but that must be the way the posters want it, right?

There was always humor here, but yes, this isn't so much a pre-veterinary forum any more. These things are cyclical, but also are self-fulfilling: new pre-vets sign on and quickly see what the most threads are about, so they figure that's the kind of forum the pre-vet one is, so they post more of the same, while the info people go elsewhere.

Oh my goodness. There's like 10 topics on the front page that aren't c/o threads, direct questions about applying, ranting/raving, talking about dealing with problems associated with vet school, support group, whatever. That makes this "not so much a pre-veterinary forum anymore"?

If you're not interested, you just don't click them... it's not like the forum has a limit on topics and they're taking up valuable space, people can post questions just as much with them present than if they weren't... it would just be a lot quieter and dead here. And boring.

I know I can't speak for everyone looking for info around here, but this forum was my final stop after a fairly exhaustive search for info about vet school when I made the decision this summer to apply. Yes, there may be more non-prevet topics, but many of the vet-related topics are very very long and chock full of information. I started with targeted searches to answer my most general questions, then read the current threads with info for applicants, then finally switched to the C/O 20xyz threads to try to learn exactly what I was getting myself into. When I had specific questions about my unique situation that I couldn't find the answers to in current threads, I made my own thread. A few people posted with very helpful information, and when my questions had all been answered, I let the thread die. Now that pretty much all of my questions have been answered, I find this community an excellent place to rant/rave about my situation as an applicant with people who understand, and yes get a bit silly too *gasp*!

I know that as a scientist, I cannot place any stock in my own, single, statistically insignificant experience. But as a person, I can't believe I'm the only one who found this forum incredibly helpful.

👍 I joined because I had questions about applying. I stayed for the community. And if community is off-topic sometimes, what of it? It doesn't mean the topic isn't there.

Our entire class dressed as Waldo (where's waldo) today 😀
All 116 of us.

A bunch of us dressed up as "neutrophilia" today. It was awesome. Our clin path professor was so excited.

Here are pics of my class. I thought it was pretty cool that all 116 of us united and got it done.
*poof*
